Change Monitoring System
CMS 5(S)
Baten (DSK), Hannah (shiree) and Sonia (Uttaran)
Purpose • To provide a qualitative longitudinal study which
documents the dynamics of extreme poverty as it is experienced and the changes in beneficiaries’ lives as a result of project interventions.
• Emphasis on how HHs are responding to interventions, and on the context and relationships within which they live.
• Q2 – triangulation - ask the “why”?
Methodology • Life histories: look in-depth at the original positions of
households before the project. - Where is a HH coming from?
• Reflections on the intervention.- Tracks change in HHs throughout the intervention. - Different members of the HH; investment and reinvestment.
Life-cycle approach; captures chronic experience of extreme poverty as well as short-term change.

Occupying one acre of khasland had created a source of income raising the family in a working extreme poor level.
The family stayed at the level of lower working extreme poor as lack of capital resulted in very low income from the shrimp cultivation. The family stayed at the level as the hh head worked as a rickshaw puller in Dhaka in the lean seasons.
The family moved down to destitution level as it had to face challenges of house blowing away, water logging and virus infection reducing income opportunities.
In 2010-11 season, doing a business worth 65000 taka which was facilitated by IGA followed by asset creation.
Excessive rain this month, washing away the ghers and homestead. Family has shifted to the inlaws place
