William Hunt, a Kokomo native and graduate of IU Bloomington and the IU Michael A. Maurer School of Law. IU President Michael McRobbie said Hunt is one of Indiana’s most distinguished business men, and he has had unwavering dedication to Indiana University, and IU Kokomo in particular. “Bill is living proof of the power of a world-class education,” McRobbie said. Hunt said IU Kokomo and the other regional campuses will be key to Indiana’s economic development, as more and more people realize the need for advanced education. “They are no longer just waystations along the way to a degree, they are academic destinations,” he said. “Our need to support them has never been greater.” Hunt is the son of Virgil Hunt, a professor of chemistry and first director of the Kokomo Extension Center, which became IU Kokomo. It was Chancellor Michael Harris’ first commencement at the campus. The university graduated its first two ROTC graduates, Jonna Rosh and Corey Stinson, and its first two Bachelor of Arts in fine arts recipients, Stephanie Britton and Jeni Singleton. Many of the graduates experienced firsts on the campus, being among the first to use the next generation classrooms, the digital media center, first online classes and a new advising system. Click here or on the photo below to see IUK Graduation photos There were many firsts at Tuesday’s graduation, all part of the long tradition at IU Kokomo, at its 42nd annual commencement. The graduates processed into the ceremony under sunny blue skies, to the cheers of their parents, children, friends and the university faculty and staff, all there to honor them at what IU President Michael McRobbie called a “celebration of accomplishment.” He said the Class of 2011 graduates into a world vastly different from the one their parents experienced. “It is a world where you should expect to change careers multiple times, and with the increasing globalization of our economic system, you should also be ready to work overseas for a period of your career. This is a world in which you can blog, tweet and text from nearly anywhere.
