LCCC Tamaqua Provides Video Stream for Heroin Workshop

The Tamaqua site of Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) will host a live video stream of the four-week course focusing on the dangers of heroin, beginning Oct. 25. Although the workshop will be held at the Schnecksville campus, residents of Schuylkill and Carbon counties will have the convenience of a video stream of the workshop at the LCCC-Tamaqua Morgan Center in rooms 104/105. The college is partnering with the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) and Lehigh County to offer the four-week program. Each course addresses a different topic, so attendance at each session is encouraged. The first session (7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25), will focus on families and individuals who have been impacted by heroin addiction. This will be a first-hand perspective on the far reaching impact of heroin addiction on a community.

During the second session, set for Wednesday, Nov. 2, scientists will explain about heroin’s cultivation process and other synthetic drugs. Individuals will learn how addiction works and about the transition that takes place from pain pills to heroin.

Week three (Wednesday, Nov. 9) discusses enforcement through different agencies, such as the Pennsylvania State Police, the District Attorney’s office, Lehigh County Probation and Lehigh County Coroner. The last week (Wednesday, Nov. 16) describes treatment options provided by local heroin recovery centers and the contact information that is available to addicts seeking places to get help.

For those interested in attending the sessions live, they will be held at the Scheller-Woodman Community Services Center from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the college’s main campus in Schnecksville, Pa.

These events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Pennsylvania State Police at 610-807-3379.
