A balanced diet means having the right amount of food from each food group.

How much of each food you need changes as you get older. Children need more food from groups 3 and 4 than adults. This is because they are growing fast. Their stomachs are small and so they will also need snacks from food groups 1, 2 and 5.

So what is a balanced diet?

• Having a healthy number of foods from each food group.

• A balanced diet has plenty of fruit and vegetable intake.

• A balanced diet also includes a certain amount of sugar
