As display devices are evolving into a smart system, the interaction with a

display device is getting more important.

Recently input devices with a non-contact method are developed. The

method of conveying commands through the gesture recognition has

been developed using three dimensional cameras, especially in the game

industry. The advantage of 3D method is to separate the object and the

background from the input image. But it is expensive.

This device uses a two dimensional camera. It recognizes the gestures of

hand through the image processing and controls smart TVs and set-top

boxes. It reliably operates regardless of the brightness and the skin colors.

In addition, it drives smart TVs minimizing the burdens on the main

processor by FPGA implementing of the complicated image processing

algorithm. It is the best optimized solution to be applied to smart TVs and

set-top boxes at low cost, which configures the virtual remote controller

using a regular two dimensional camera.
