Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of Christ Episcopal,This Annual Report is our yearly effort to assemble in one place a listing of all the gifts that members of our school community have contributed to Christ Episcopal School during the last fiscal year. By all accounts, 2012-13 was the greatest year in the school’s history in terms of the total contributions raised and pledged. It was an extraordinary year of growth for the school, and this report serves as testimony to the faith and confidence of so many in the future of Christ Episcopal.

As we approach the 30th anniversary of the founding of the school, I hope the scope of this report reminds every member of this community how far we have come. On August 29, 1984, Christ Episcopal opened its doors to 34 students, seven teachers, and a headmaster. Today, with 576 students on two campuses, a high school program that is growing in both enrollment and scope, a magnificent new theater and classroom building, and an imminent groundbreaking for a new track and athletic field complex, this school has grown to an extent that its founding Vestry members could not have imagined.

I hope that as you look through these pages, you get a sense of Christ Episcopal today and that you understand the appreciation we feel toward all who have been so generous. Whether you contributed to the Capital Campaign, the Annual Fund, to a CESPA fundraiser or to Art at the Park – or if you supported each of those ventures, as have so many – please accept my heartfelt thanks. Your generosity has made it all possible.

Sincerely,

John MorvantHeadmaster

I am thrilled to be part of the Christ Episcopal School community. Although I only recently joined the Advancement Office, it is clear that CES’s parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, faculty, students, and staff work together tirelessly to support the school in so many different ways.

Last year was a great one for CES. Thanks to the generosity of donors to the We’re All In! Capital Campaign, the Center of Inquiry was ready for students on the first day of school. We hope to keep the Campaign’s momentum rolling this year to fund the new track and athletic field complex. There are other important areas in need of support, such as tuition assistance, faculty salaries, professional development, new technology, and classroom renovations, just to name a few items on a very long list. Your continued financial support will be key to funding those initiatives.

Every aspect of Christ Episcopal School life is touched by the generosity of our many community members who offer time, expertise, and financial contributions to support CES’s students and faculty. Each and every gift makes a difference, and we hope you will consider making Christ Episcopal School a philanthropic priority this year.

In the coming months, I look forward to meeting all of you and working together for many great years ahead!

Sincerely,

Jerry Henson Director of Advancement

As we near the holidays, please consider giving friends and family the perfect gift- a contribution to Christ Episcopal School in their honor. It’s a special gift for the hard to-shop-for friends and family members, and would mean so much to CES!

Track and Field ComplexComing Soon: 2014

Christ Episcopal School is excited to share the news about our continued development of the Christwood Boulevard Campus. Beginning this winter, we will begin construction on the new track and field complex. The site has already been cleared, the elevations checked, and requests for proposals submitted. Our hope is that by school year 2014-2015, students will be practicing and competing in this great new facility.

To accommodate our growing student body and athletic program, this facility is a must. Christ Episcopal School wants the best track and field complex for our students, and with the support of generous donors, we will soon be hosting games and tournaments right here on Christwood Boulevard!

Service LearningService learning can be defined in many ways. It is often described as community service for those less fortunate or as fundraising for a charity. At Christ Episcopal School, our program celebrates our students, giving them the foundation for life that models the spirit of our school mission. Our service learning program matches students to our service partners in the community, and closer to home, with our school community, our Christwood family and CES families. Through service activities, our students have the opportunity to teach and learn, integrating cross-curricular lessons into the activities. The service projects encourage students to demonstrate to others what they are learning, and to grow what they are learning into a life lesson. Our students are building character, hand-in-hand with acquiring a healthy lifestyle, a work ethic, and a civic responsibility.

Lower School Bank of Good Deeds: Our lower school students earned coins for modeling the school’s Operating Principles at home, and raised over $1500 during the holidays. The funds raised stay right here at school to lend a hand or provide a warm, home-cooked meal to our families during times of emergency, tragedy, or illness.

Second Grade Post Office: Second graders learn about the postal system and open their own CES post office every year. Students run the post office and deliver the mail. Profits from stamp and stationary sales purchase mailboxes for Habitat for Humanity houses.

Fourth Grade Popcorn Company: Fourth grade students open a popcorn company every year. They run the business, sell the popcorn and track the finances. Profits buy classroom equipment for the school.

Fifth Grade Barn Plant Sale at Grandparents’ Day: Fifth graders painted pots, planted plants and sold the painted flowers pots at Grandparents’ Day. They made more than $900 to help feed our barn residents.

Seventh Grade “Give a Dog a Bowl”: Seventh graders painted stainless steel pet bowls and sold them at the CESPA Mistletoe Market. Students earned more than $650 to benefit the St. Tammany Parish Animal Shelter.

EducatingThe Heart

Page 11: 2012-2013 CES Annual Report

Feed My Sheep: Seventh graders worked hard in the garden, growing fresh food for the Covington Food Bank during the year. They also partnered with the fourth grade to host three food drives. They delivered 4,950 pounds of dry goods and canned goods to the food bank.

Feeling Artful: Each year, sixth graders work with our young Caritas friends several times a year. Students selflessly care for these children, play with them, read to them, feed them lunch, and create art with them. They model manners, good behavior, and being kind, setting wonderful examples for our friends.

Grand Friends: Fifth graders captivated our Christwood neighbors with examples of their writings. Students visited the residents in small groups and read some of their schoolwork to the residents.

Eighth Grade St. Tammany Pediatric Activity Boxes: Eighth graders presented the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Pediatric Floor with boxes and boxes of comfort and joy, to help make each young patient’s hospital stay a little easier. Boxes were filled with games, books, puzzles, toys, personal items and craft supplies. The hospital staff was overwhelmed with gratitude. The outstanding response from the CES community demonstrated an understanding of how sudden and disruptive a hospital stay can be for a family.

Time Exchange: Many times throughout the year, our CES family takes time to share time with each other. We bring different ages together to read, play and visit with each other. Our students learn that sometimes the gift of sharing time with someone can be one of the most rewarding gifts they have.

High School Service: This year, the high school students journeyed into service in various ways. They collected Christmas gifts and donated items for several impoverished community families. The Key Club donated many volunteer hours serving CES. Students trick-or-treated for canned goods for the food bank and participated in the local Beach Sweep cleanup via canoe. The Key Club served the Kiwanis organization during many events such as the 5K fundraiser, Holiday Breakfast and Coats for Kids.

2012-2013 Capital Campaign, Phase IV“We’re All In!”

Since 2002, Christ Episcopal School’s enrollment has increased by 41% and we expect to exceed 600 students by 2016. As our school has grown in numbers and grades, the need for additional classroom space and athletic facilities has become increasingly evident and urgent.

The Center of Inquiry opened on August 8, 2013, just in time to welcome students on the first day of classes. With 41,405 square feet of space dedicated to the instruction of students in all grades, the COI contains eight classrooms, five offices, a state-of-the-art theater, a video production studio, and flexible spaces for receptions, meetings, and worship.

The track and athletic field is scheduled for completion in spring 2014 and is being designed to meet Louisiana High School Athletic Association standards. The new facility will offer CES students a competitive and versatile venue for hosting games, tournaments, and school events. “The Race is On!” to get the track and field completed, so expect more news related to our fundraising efforts soon.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Capital Campaign. Due to your generosity, Christ Episcopal School is nearing its goal of providing a facility that mirrors and appropriately accommodates our academic and athletic programs. Your gifts allow us to continue “Growing with Grace.”

Annual Fund 2012 - 2013“Celebrate Each Student”

The Annual Fund is an essential component of our annual operating budget. The funds raised each year allow CES to better support innovations in teaching, low student/teacher ratios, upgrades to technology, maintenance of our expanding facility, our service learning projects, and to continue to develop a program aligned with our mission and learning goals.

In 2012-2013, the total Annual Fund dollars raised equals $160,961. We have been blessed with a continued base of committed donors and are extremely grateful to everyone who participated!
