Boost your career with the Certified Management Accountant Program

The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Program will provide you with the skills needed to take your career to the next level. Management accountants provide real time advice and analysis to management, contributing to the strategy and operations of an organisation.

Management accountingThe work of a management accountant focuses on internal reporting to aid in running a better business or organisation. This role differs from that of a financial accountant, who produces regulatory and compliance based reports for external stakeholders.

Management accountants apply professional knowledge and skill to produce reports that assist in the total planning, strategy and control of an operation.

The specialist skill set of the management accountant is highly-regarded by senior management and is currently in demand in many organisations.

ICMA and the CMA ProgramThe Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA) was established in 1996 with a vision to attain the status of a premier professional body with a strong membership base of practising management accountants.

The Institute aims to promote and develop management accounting and to foster education, training and the exchange of information and ideas relating to the profession and its practice.

The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Program was designed to further develop skills of analysis, evaluation and synthesis in the areas of cost and management accounting for associate members and, in the process, create an awareness of some current developments in the profession.

The program can only be undertaken by a student member who has met the pre-requisite entry requirements of the program, or by a graduate or associate member of the institute.

Where can the CMA Program take you? By becoming a member of ICMA and following the CMA Program, you will open yourself up to a world of professional opportunities.

Not only will you obtain the necessary skills and experience needed to follow a career as a management accountant across many industries, you will receive workplace recognition of your studies.

Completion of the CMA Program will enable you to gain the following membership types and become eligible to use the relative post-nominals:

• Associate Management Accountant (AMA)

• Certified Management Accountant (CMA)

The CMA Program also fits in ideally with those undertaking Masters in Accounting and MBA programs. There are several universities within Australia and around the world that have the CMA sequence running within their Masters programs.

“Companies rely on quality strategic analysis to be able to confidently chart a future course. The management accountant is one of the CEO and Board’s most valuable advisers in this regard – they go beyond the numbers and bring together the best intelligence; leading indicators from within and outside the business. Without this information and analysis you are flying blind.”

Emeritus Professor Peter Chandler AM Chairman, RACV
