Central Ohio Significant Storm information for Month: December 19: Approximately 11 hours of precipitation … beginning as light freezing rain and snow during the very early morning, and then changing to rain, heavy at times, before ending about 11 a.m. on the 19th. Rainfall amounts ranged from 1.1” to 2.2”, with the heaviest amount measured just northwest of Johnstown in northwestern Licking County. The majority of volunteers in the Central Ohio area reported between 1.4” and 1.6” of liquid precipitation. In northwestern Ohio, much of the precipitation fell as freezing rain and sleet; 0.25” to 0.50” of ice accumulation was reported, along with widespread power outages and property damage. December 23-24: Precipitation from about mid-afternoon on the 23rd to mid-afternoon on the 24th … starting as light freezing drizzle, and then turning to all rain. The most significant portion of the rainfall occurred from about 10 p.m. on the 23rd to 6 a.m. on the 24th. Most of our volunteers reported between 1 and 2 inches of total liquid precipitation. March 7-8, 2008 Record snowfall at Port Columbus … 20.4 inches in a single event, lasting approximately 33 hours. 15.5 inches fell in a 24-hour period, which also set a new all-time record.

March 18-19, 2008 Flooding along the Scioto and Hocking Rivers, and Big Darby Creek was caused by runoff from 2-4 inches of rainfall falling over a period of about 40 hours throughout the Central Ohio area.

June 25-26, 2008 Torrential rainfalls of up to 3+ inches in just over two hours caused widespread localized flooding in the Central Ohio area. A 3-mile stretch of I-70 near the Route 79 interchange had to be closed due to flooding.
