Position 1

He is a Senior Vice President in one of the most respected and successful commercial real estate firms in Memphis.Mr. Conrad currently serves as Chairman of the Economic Development, Tourism & Technology Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, and serves on the Capital Improvements Budget Committee, MLG&W committee, Public Works, Transportation and General Services Committee and the Public Services and Neighborhoods committee. Mr. Conrad is also the Council liaison to the Airport Authority and the Civilian Law Enforcement Review Board.

A native of Atlanta Georgia, Kemp put down roots in Memphis upon graduating from Rhodes College in 1996 with a BA in History and was inducted into Phi Alpha Theta, the International History Honor Society. In 2002, working his way through business school, he earned his MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, one of the top business schools in the nation.

A new event planned! Holiday Fest

December, 2014. This will include Carriage rides, Caroling, photos

with Santa and s’mores! We are looking for a few musically talented neighbors interested in assisting with the Caroling portion with the neighborhood kids for rehearsal's and the evening performance.

• Central Gardens Signs - Replaced the areas that border Central Gardens with new or refurbished signs.

• Landscape Workshop - Conducted the first landscape workshop- Fashionably Green: Color Central Gardens Beautiful- sponsored by a grant from The Memphis City Beautiful Commission and from donations made by several generous Central Gardens neighbors.

• Wreath Hanging - Decorated the lamp posts with approximately 250 wreaths within the neighborhood with 30 plus volunteers each year.

• Free Tree Program - Fifteen trees have been planted in the past year. This program was developed to help replace and add trees in our neighborhood. With a canopy of trees, many of which are 100 years old or more, they need to be replaced after storms and sickness.

• Belvedere Median - The association is reviewing some short term enhancements that would be economically feasible as well as coordinate with any plans that the City of Memphis may have for the medians in the future.

Springfest

• The annual SpringFest, held in April provided face painting, giant slide, moon bounce, a neighborhood band, free food and drinks. Something for everyone.

• Many thanks to Grace-St. Luke’s Church for use of their parking lot.

• Thank you to all volunteers who helped to make this event a success.

July 4th Parade• A Central Gardens tradition

for more than 30 years. Make plans for this upcoming event!

• This event attracts 300-400 attendees to the 1500 block of Carr Ave. (between Willett and Rozelle) on Independence Day morning for free refreshments, children’s and pets’ patriotic costume competitions, music, and door prizes.

• Thank you to all the new and repeat volunteers that continue to make this event wonderful.

37th Annual Home Tour

• The 37th annual Home and Garden Tour was a huge success drawing over 1,400 people to our historic neighborhood.

• Participants in the tour were treated to performances by Opera Memphis as part of their “30 Days of Opera” series.

• Over 800 tickets were sold in

advance.

• Over $500 in merchandise was sold during the Home Tour.

A special thank you to the over 200 volunteers who supported the Home

Tour!

Landmarks, Zoning and Compliance• CG Landmarks continues to work closely with

architects and developers of projects surrounding our neighborhood, to help maintain the overall integrity of Midtown.

• The Historic Overlay District in the Unified Development Code (UDC) provides additional protection to all neighborhoods. Central Gardens Design Guidelines remain in place. Design Guidelines are available on our website.

• CG Landmarks worked with the city to change the language regarding the requirements allowed for a guest house regarding sizes and parking requirements.

Landmarks, Zoning and Compliance• We are currently working with the city about

parking requirements in general for commercial properties being built in and around residential neighborhoods.

• CG Landmarks is working on refining and upgrading our design guidelines to make sure all information is clear, concise and keeping up with the times. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact someone from our committee or stop by a meeting. Meetings are held the 3rd Monday of every month.

• Current property design guidelines are available on centralgardens.org.

• Supported our local police and fire departments by promoting National Night Out and honoring our firefighters with baked goods at Christmas.

• Maintained Central Gardens Patrol subscription and set goals for 2014 to promote membership subscriptions.

• Worked with Membership committee to establish a common goal to increase membership in both CGA patrol and CGA membership.

• Successfully responded to neighborhood issues concerning parking, speed, vagrants, and unlawful activity at residents houses.

• Set goal for 2014 to re-establish block captains.

• Increased membership over last year by nearly 200 households!

• Significant increase in number of members at the Leader ($100) and Patron ($175) levels.

• Membership committee member Ruth Henderson delivered 42 new resident packets in 2013 – 2014, and 17 of those residents went on to join CGA.

• Working with Communications committee to evaluate and enhance current membership database to improve communications in the coming year.
