Training with Career Center

On November 19-21, 2013, the YSU

Alumni and Career Center and the

YSU Center for Gender Research and

Leadership held a three-day workshop

entitled Leadership, Career Advance-

ment and Gender. The workshop was

attended by 25 students and alumni

from YSU and other universities.

The participants learned about self-

presentation and motivation as im-

career advancement.

During the interactive event, through

role games the participants engaged

with

as important issues as leadership

behavior, proficient communication

and self-presentation, efficient

work within a group, etc. The par-

The Arizona State University

is located in the city of Tem-

pe, Arizona. It was founded

in 1885 and originally was a

Normal School. In 1945, the

school was named Arizona

State College at the decision

of the Arizona Board of Re-

gents. In 1958, it was re-

named Arizona State Univer-

sity. In 1994, the University

was classified as Research

University by the Carnegie

Classification of Institutions

of Higher Education. Current-

ly it is one of the innovative

research universities in the

United States. The University

aims at establishing the New

American University model

the efficiency of which is

measured on the success

achieved by its students as

opposed to universities that

measure their efficiency

through the shortcomings and

dropout rates. The Arizona

State University is among the

top 25 research institutes in

the United States thanks to its

research results, innovations,

development, research funds,

as well as receipt of a large

number of grants. The Uni-

versity offers Bachelor’s,

Masters, and doctoral degrees.

A number of research and sci-

entific centers operate within

the University which in turn en-

hance the learning process and

add to the ranking of the Univer-

sity.

Among such research Centers is

the Melikian Center with which

the YSU Center of Gender Re-

search and Leadership collabo-

rates. The Melikian Center spe-

cializes in research in Russian,

Eurasian and Eastern European

Studies. The Melikian center

pursues both instructional and

research goals. It is home to

over 40 faculty affiliates from

ASU and community colleges

throughout Arizona.

Within the framework of collabo-

ration between the CGRL and

Melikian Center, four YSU

professors have so far been

trained at the Arizona State

Univeristy to develop courses on

Gender Studies, and the training

of two others is underway. of

cooperation between the two uni-

versities around the Center for

Gender Research and Leadership

Studies of Yerevan State Univer-

sity.

In January 2014, a delegation

from YSU headed by Rector

Aram Simonyan visited the Ari-

zona State University to discuss

prospects of continuation of co-

operation between the two uni-

versities around the Center for

Gender Research and Leadership

Studies.

career and advancement, etc.

The YSU Center for Gender and Lead-

ership grants the opportunity to those

interested in gender politics to receive

financial and professional support for

research. The research supported by the

Center has to aim at bringing about

change in the sphere of gender politics.

Currently, ten projects are underway in

different spheres all of which aim at

changing gender politics. Among them

are research projects on sex-based abor-

tions, women’s representation in the

Armenian army, women’s representa-
