BREAKING NEWS Columbia Law School Launches Exchanges with Beida and Fudan In June, Columbia Law School became the first American law school to launch student exchange programs with law schools in both Shanghai and Beijing. Beginning in the 2006-2007 academic year, Columbia Law School students will have the option of spending a semester at either Peking University (Beida) in Beijing or Fudan University in Shanghai, two of China’s leading universities. Beida and Fudan students likewise will have the option of studying at Co- lumbia. e first Beida and Fudan students will arrive at Columbia in August. Dean David M. Schizer, who signed exchange agreements with his counterparts at Beida and Fudan, said, “ese are exciting and important agreements. e exchanges reflect our continued commitment to educating American students about China and Chinese students about American law. Columbia Law School has been a leader in education about and engage- ment with China for more than thirty years; it is natural that we would be a leader in estab- lishing student exchanges with China.” 中國法律研究中心 CENTER FOR CHINESE LEGAL STUDIES SUMMER 2006 columbia law school Center for Chinese Legal Studies Columbia Law School 435 West 116th Street New York, NY 10027 Inside Welcome from Prof. Liebman .................... 1 57th Annual Winter Luncheon.................. 2 China Deals Roundtable .............................. 3 Student Profiles ............................................... 4 Visiting Scholars, 2005-2006 ...................... 5 Please direct questions, comments or changes of address to Paulette Roberts ([email protected]). http://www.law.columbia.edu/ center_program/chinese
