Roundtable With Longtime Milwaukee DJ, Bob Barry MEETINGS Bob Barry’s Rock and Roll Milwaukee, stories from the fifth Beatle. Hear a brief history of Rock and Roll, a huge event he almost missed out on, a newsman who almost got fired for a headline he used, how radio contests are won, “wolves” in the studio, being at the Playboy Mansion with Barbi Benton and Elton John, how Muhammed Ali walked out on him in the middle of his interview, his claim to fame as the one who introduced the Beatles in Milwaukee, the entertainer who had Bob star struck, and many more really interesting and fun stories. Packed with never before seen photos, his revealing memoir recalls this iconic DJ’s many celebrity encounters, his career highlights and setbacks and the hijinks that made Milwaukee radio rock. Don’t miss this wonderful and fun Roundtable. Bob also wrote a book about his experiences, and he will have the books on sale at the Roundtable for the special price of $20, with proceeds going to a children’s charity. Vagabond race Team 2018/19 season

For more information, contact Team Captain al Lemke at 414-688-2938 or [email protected]

The Vagabond Ski Team begins its race season on Saturday, December 15, at Alpine Valley Ski Area with two giant slalom races (four total runs). Spectators are encouraged to come out and watch the team in action. A trophy presentation ceremony is held after the race.

This season there are 14 races scheduled on seven different dates sponsored by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Ski Council Senior Racing (MMSCSR). The tentative schedule appears below. new this year men and women ski in the same classes. There are about 40-45 skiers at each race who compete in one of eight different classes depending on skill level. Two different courses are run for each race

and the times are combined. Awards are presented in each class at each race. Season awards are also given in each class at the end of the season. Racers do not have to compete in all the races but to qualify for a season award, a racer must have at least six starts with a minimum of two slaloms and two giant slaloms.

All MMSCSR clubs practice at Little Switzerland on Wednesday nights from 7 to 9 pm. Lift tickets are on your own. MMSCSR also practices at Sunburst on Friday nights. In addition to Friday practices, there are three races at Sunburst this year. Race and practice updates will be communicated via email so be sure to check your email for updates.

Sunburst is working exclusively with MMSC Clubs like the Vagabonds in a way that should help the race program by offering any Vagabond member, racer or not, a 2018/2019 season pass to ski any time for $149. Please present

your Vagabond ID to be eligible for the special pricing. If ordering a pass by phone, Sunburst will verify your Vagabond membership through Joyce Szulc.

all Vagabond skiers (intermediate or better) are invited to try running race gates with us. Just show up and identify yourself. Skiing down a course at practice, whether starting from the top or halfway down is a way to make local skiing exciting and fun. Try it and you will be hooked! We help each other improve our skiing, have fun and compete at a level that is appropriate for each skier.

We are always looking for more men and women to join us. If you are not skiing any more, please pass this information to your friends and family who might be interested. Remember the Vagabonds started as a ski club and we would like to keep the tradition going. We enjoy the practices, the racing and the socializing after skiing.

safety means Getting into ski shape! One of the most effective ways to prevent injuries while skiing is to make sure you are in good shape before you ski. Stronger muscles will not only help you maintain control (which is important in avoiding collisions), they will also make skiing more fun. Skiing requires strong knees and legs, a fit core, endurance and coordination. According to ‘Becomeanexpertskier.com,’ you should begin your fitness program at least two months prior to your first day on the slopes and that your fitness routine should include hamstring, quadricep and back stretches. In addition, you should work on core and overall abdominal strength. Now is the time to get ready so you can spend longer days on the slopes! You will be glad you did. And always remember to warm up and stretch before you start skiing.

skiing Wisconsin Coupon bookHey Vagabond Skiers! The 2018-19 Skiing Wisconsin Coupon Book is now available.  Only $149 plus tax and you receive a one-day lift ticket for 17 different ski areas in Wisconsin.  For details, go to www.skiingwisconsin.com for more information and conditions of use.

The book of mormon Sun., January 6, 1 pmMarcus Center Performing ArtsThe Book of Mormon is back at the Marcus Center. If you didn’t get an opportunity to see it a few years ago, now is your chance! Or come see it again.

This is a musical comedy that makes light of various Mormon beliefs and practices, but ultimately endorses the positive power of love and service. The script, lyrics and music were written by Parker & Stone, who are best known for “South Park” and Robert Lopez who wrote the music for “Avenue Q.”

The Book of Mormon follows two mismatched missionaries as they attempt to preach the Mormon religion to the inhabitants of a remote Uganda village. The earnest young men are challenged by the lack of interest of the locals, who are preoccupied with more pressing troubles such as famine, and oppression from local warlords.

This show has been awarded 9 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

We have Orchestra seats for $60 and Center Loge seats for $40. We will meet for Brunch prior to the show at Bar Louie, 1114 N. Water St. at 11 am.
