This year, PSE celebrates 20 years in the construction business, a feat for an industry where the lifespan of a company could be very short. “For the first 15 years, we were mostly executing local projects. The turning point for the company came when we were awarded contracts for the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) project. We were awarded four packages by MBS as a main contractor for the construction of the MBS Sky Park and the MICE facilities. This gave us the confidence, later on, to pursue and execute larger projects on an international scale. The addition of the successful completion of MBS project to our track record provided us a springboard to further our reach overseas”, Mr Bensily, PSE Managing Director, explains. The last few years also saw PSE & Prime Structures Holdings Pte Ltd (PSH), the parent investment company of PSE, embark on an aggressive expansion programme which saw an addition of four other construction companies into the PRIME brand of companies through either acquisitions or organic growth. group also has a design office in Manila, Philippines, to enhance market competitiveness.

In order to remain competitive, the PRIME group of companies has formed strong strategic alliances with partners globally, from China to Vietnam and even in Italy.

MAIN LINES OF BUSINESSThe PRIME group of companies has expertise in four main areas - Building Envelopes, Customised Structures and Art Structures, Security Façades, and Interior Fit-Outs. Services are packaged and delivered to clients through Design & Build, Supply & Build, or Supply contracts.

Building EnvelopesA good building envelope involves designs that are climate-appropriate, structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing. Such work relates to the outer structure and the skin of the building and will also include façade lighting, all of which are offered as part of PSE’s building envelope design and build services. The envelope of a building is the first sight that greets a customer before he or she enters the building and hence, a very important first impression is formed from there. A building with an avant garde design for its façade will definitely attract attention. Such are the projects PSE undertakes. A prime example is the Marina Bay Sands where its futuristic façade designs and iconic features have garnered international acclaim. PSE has worked on the MBS including the SkyPark, MICE facilities and, recently, the Art Science Museum.PSE’s other notable projects in Singapore include Changi Airport Terminal 3, Fusionopolis, National University of Singapore, Orchard Central, Panda Exhibit at Singapore Zoo, Regional Headquarters of Robert Bosch and Wisma Atria.International project references include the Brunei Cancer Centre, in Brunei; Genting Highlands Resort, in Malaysia; and the upcoming Manila Bay Resort, in the Philippines.Customised Structures and Art StructuresThe ability to install art structures speaks volumes about a company’s capabilities because of the complexity of the projects, due to the high levels of precision and intricacy of design work required for such installations. The company's first prominent art installation was the 18 m tall, public sculpture, 'Momentum', located at Finlayson Green, in the heart of Singapore's Central Business District. Another prominent art installation executed by PSE is the ‘Wind Arbor’ at Marina Bay Sands. Created by artist and sculptor Ned Kahn, in collaboration with architect Moshe Safdie, the artwork, a cable net structure comprising half a million hinged panels that sway with the wind and reveal the patterns of the wind, also functions as a shade for the lobby, blocking half of the sunlight and heat that enters the building.Security FaçadesThe three basic elements of a building envelope are to act as a weather barrier, air barrier, and thermal barrier. PSE aims to add a fourth element to the basic elements of a building envelope - the security barrier, to counter the possible threats of attacks by insurgents and terrorists. The façade of a building will then act as the first line of defence against the external elements through the installation of security features such as blast-proof glass panels. For the Australian Embassy project in Jakarta, Indonesia, PSE supplied and installed the bomb-proof and blast-proof windows. Australian Embassy, Jakarta, Indonesia.

The PRIME Strategy“ What sets us apart from the crowd is our ability to integrate all systems of the building envelope seamlessly, be it the structure (steel or concrete), the skin (glass, aluminium, copper or zinc) or the façade lighting. The solution we offer is unique, complete and bespoke.Through creative and value-added engineering, the building façade instead of being traditionally regarded as a ‘sunk cost’ item, is now able to generate revenue through the brilliant integration that we are able to offer. Our strength lies in delivering customised solutions. The MBS project is one such reference where apart from the Ned Kahn art wall, the under-cladding of the MBS Sky Park also demanded a unique solution, one which involved the fabrication and installation of thousands of special panels of different sizes, coming together in a seamless pattern which provides an aesthetic appeal unique to the Marina Bay Sands Sky Park. When you pass by the Sky Park, you will see one of PRIME’s bespoke solutions in situ”- Mr Sonny Bensily, Managing Director, Prime Structures Engineering Pte Ltd.
