CeBIT Global Conferences

Dr. Angela Merkel

Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany

CeBIT has been the market hub of the digital world for more than 25 years. It is the world’s

leading trade fair for information technology and telecommunications – a status which

this year finds expression in a lineup of 4,200 exhibitors from over 70 nations. The digital revolution and

economic globalization are inextricably intertwined. This fact, always evident at CeBIT, will be reflected

even more powerfully by the strong presence of Brazil as this year’s official Partner Country. On behalf of

Germany, I would like to extend a very warm and heartfelt welcome to our guests from South America and

around the world.

CeBIT leads the way not just as the shop window for the world’s digital innovations. Thanks to the CeBIT

Global Conferences, it is also a highly valued forum for dialogue on new ideas and strategies. The main

themes at this year’s CeBIT Global Conferences include mobile applications, cloud computing and intel-

ligent networks. New technology applications generally achieve sustained growth only if there is sufficient

trust in their reliability and in the protection given to the personal data they use. “Managing Trust” is a

major challenge for the ICT industry and will therefore rightly receive a great deal of attention at this

year’s round of Global Conferences.

I trust that all participants at the CeBIT Global Conferences will enjoy a stimulating exchange of ideas,

and I wish all exhibitors and visitors a successful and interesting CeBIT 2012.

Dr. Angela Merkel

Words of Welcome

CeBIT Global Conferences

Ernst Raue

Member of the Managing Board, Deutsche Messe

The two primary forces which power the digital world are people and ideas.

We are therefore extremely proud of our lineup of speakers at the CeBIT Global Conferences

2012, all of whom are considered major movers and shakers in their fields. Of course, these individuals

don’t “move and shake” all on their own. They also represent the companies for which they work and whose

innovative business models and technologies are ultimately responsible for shaping our future. Key global

players are taking part, and this is eloquent testimony to the international significance of the CeBIT Global

Conferences and guarantees that we will soon be treated to a very stimulating round of

presentations and discussions.

There is such a wealth of fascinating trends and developments in today’s digital world that it would be a

shame to focus on just one. That is why each day of the CeBIT Global Conferences will be dedicated

to a different keynote theme. You can rest assured there will also be plenty of thought-provoking cross-

pollination across the featured topics. Whether we’re talking about Big Data, the Cloud, Smart Technology,

Social Business or the CeBIT 2012 lead theme of Managing Trust, there’s definitely a lot of common

denominators to be explored.

Whenever creative people with great passion and knowledge come together to share their views, new

ideas are born. That is why I am sure you will find the CeBIT Global Conferences 2012 a highly inspirational

event, and a unique opportunity to do some moving and shaking of your own.

Sincerely,

Ernst Raue

Prof. Dieter Kempf

President BITKOM e.V.

Welcome to CeBIT Global Conferences 2012!

Again BITKOM feels proud and honoured to be patron of this years’ CeBIT Global Conferences.

Leading experts and decision-makers from all over the world will meet here in Hannover to discuss the

most important trends and developments in information technology, communications and the Internet.

Since we have met in March 2011 we have witnessed the ongoing success and growth of cloud computing,

mobile broadband services, and social media. And with that we have entered the era of big data and

of intensive discussions on privacy and data security. “Managing trust” has become the most important

challenge for the ICT industry world-wide and is therefore the appropriate theme of CeBIT 2012.

So I am really looking forward to learning about our digital world of tomorrow. Once again: my warmest

welcome to all international speakers and participants of the CeBIT Global Conferences 2012!

“The Future of Urban Management” – How cities can be managed like enterprises for maximum safety, mobility and citizen interaction

We are in an era in which massive amounts of data, from multiple sources, present us with powerful new options for managing and safeguarding our cities, our companies, or financial institutions and – our most important asset of all – our people. Achieving this not only requires innovative technology, but also human intellect and the right approach. Ensuring smooth and efficient municipal operations, particularly in terms of safety, security, new mobility and citizen interaction, means managing our cities just as we would a major corporation. Serving citizens’ needs must go beyond city borders and use the Web to full advantage. In short: We need to usher in a new era of Urban Process Management.

“Building business with fans, not features”

What happens when a game company stops thinking like a game company? All entertainment is about evoking emotions. Emotions lead to fans, and fans form the basis of any great business. Technology companies think like

engineers, and tend to sacrifice great user experiences for short-sighted pursuits of profit. So instead of the typical feature-oriented focus, what if you switch to a dialogue that fosters fan culture?

CGC Satellite – Fem@le Leadership Summit

Organizer: BITKOM e.V.Language: German (English simultaneous translation)

Companies perform better when they have women in technical and leadership positions. In Germany, the percentage of women in ICT is below average. Thanks in no small measure to the current debate on the adoption of a women’s quota system, the country’s ICT companies are now looking closely at a range of HR strategies to remedy this. At the Fem@le Leadership Summit, women in senior positions at various international companies will explore ways of achieving gender equity in the workforce.

“Social Selling becomes the New E-commerce – How online business can adapt to e-commerce 2.0”

After having become digital in the first e-commerce era, commerce now is getting social. Customers not only actively leverage their social and digital communities to gain trusted shopping advice; they even make use of it for “social selling”. Online businesses can adapt to this transformation if they manage to enter customer’s centre of trust – which is local and emotional.

“Commerce Gets Social: How Networks Are Driving What You Buy”

Social networks are changing our behavior patterns. Increasingly, our choices of things to buy and consume are based on recommendations by people we know and trust. Classic advertising, on the other hand, is losing credibility and receding into the background. Which is why more and more manufacturers and retailers are incorporating social media into their sales activities. But how sustainable is this trend? Can social media really be monetized? And if so, what will the resulting new business models look like?

“How do we want to live and work tomorrow: betahaus coworking @CGC”

The world of work is in a state of transition, with value creation no longer confined to the physical realms of companies and organizations. Today’s workforce is making its contributions from various locations, at various times and in various team constellations – in many cases even without an actual employment contract or a personally assigned workspace. Thanks to their flexible, open and networking-friendly ambience, locations such as “betahaus” in Berlin are a magnet for talented and creative start-up entrepreneurs and give them fertile soil on which to grow their businesses. Together with Immobilienscout and Desk Wanted, the betahaus Berlin team will be giving CeBIT attendees a chance to experience coworking as a key concept for tomorrow’s workaday world. In the foyer of the Convention Center complex where the CeBIT Global Conferences are being staged (in front of Room 2), visitors can enjoy a relaxing environment in which they can engage in mutually fruitful networking and talk shop with fellow entrepreneurs. Be sure to stop by for some highly valuable inspiration!
