MY FOCUSMy focus for the last few months has been trying to draw in more interest for partnering. After the ELF which took place here in Budapest

in March, It was clear that God does not want us to do this on our own, but rather we are to work in partnerships across Europe,

embracing the whole continent of Europe together.

We, the Central Europe region of YWAM, have now entered into a partnership with YWAM’s Western European region. And so, they have

invited us to join them in London in February next year for their Leadership forum, so we can strengthen our links with them. I would

encourage all our leaders to try and make it there if you can.

I have been personally meeting with lots of people in Western Europe who are eager to partner with us to see Central Europe transformed.

The 5 cities project was formally launched at the ELF this year and I am soon to be joined by Yohanan and Rachel Rempt, who will be

working with me here in Budapest and will be particularly focused on co-ordinating this project so that we can see it maximised.

I’m excited about this coming year: I except to see some new things pioneered and some current things really start to grow and take off.

Blessings,

Carmelite Clarke

YWAM in GREECE:Greece was on the School of Evangelism field trip trail which brought hundreds of YWAM’ers there in the ’60s and 70s. The Anastasis also was in Athens while being refitted in the early ’80s, which set the stage for the famous “fish miracle.” YWAM’s permanent presence began in Greece when Jim & Judy Orred moved there in 1986. They came to develop outreaches primarily to the Muslim minorities in the Balkans and Turkey. Eventually other staff followed and a DTS was held in 1992.Although a DTS was held in Greece, nothing permanent has remained from the different seasons of our investment there.

YWAM in POLAND:In the 80’s YWAM was active in Poland. There was a base with different ministries as well as having the DTS. Today there are a few YWAMers there but not a cohesive team, yet there is an increase in the evangelical church in Poland and doors for ministry are open. At this stage we have a small team re-pioneering a base and setting up a DTs, which hopefully will happen in September 2011.

YWAM in CZECH REPUBLIC:In 1991, Pat and Barb Foye moved to Plzen from YWAM Lakeside in Montana, USA. That same year, a team was sent from YWAM Amsterdam to start a work in Prague. During the first few years, members of both teams were involved in teaching English, learning Czech, and developing relationships throughout the nation. Partnering with a Moravian church in Liberec, YWAM Plzen and Prague hosted two Go Festivals in 1995 and 1997, opening the door for teaching and mobilizing Czechs into world missions. The Foyes remain in Plzen, and a team is forming in Cheb. In 2009 Roger & Robin Harsh moved to Prague and are praying to see a team join them and rebuild YWAM’s presence in the Capital.

YWAM in KOSOVO:YWAM Kosovo was established in December 1999 as, after prayer, YWAM Albania and YWAM Serbia came together to bring leadership for the region of Kosovo. There are currently three staff members based in the capital city, Prishtina, who are supporting local churches, and working in mercy ministries and evangelism with widows and poor families.

YWAM in BOSNIA:Once the war ended, YWAM began to send groups to help with the humanitarian aid effort. Outreach teams from across the globe came to assist in the rebuilding efforts, some staying for days or weeks and others staying for a few years. In the midst of this time, YWAM pioneered its first DTS (Discipleship Training School) in 1999 and then a second DTS in 2001.In early 2004, a long-term team arrived in Sarajevo with the vision to help extend the foundations for a new generation to build upon. The team worked for a number of years but then had to withdraw for family reasons. Sarajevo continues to develop as one of Europe’s capitols but still lacks breakthroughs in the area of the spiritual.

ONE MORE STEP7

When was the last time you were watching a race (or possibly running in a race) and the leader of the race, right before the finish line, just stopped? I have never seen this. Paul says we run in a race and we should run in such a way to win the prize.

To run in a race takes a lot more steps than just the last one. It starts with a dream and a lot of hard work to be ready for race day.

The first step is just as important as the last step. Without that first step- you can’t start. If you take that step before you should you have to start over, and if you wait on the line long after the start of the race- this only causes more work & frustration during the race. This thought makes me ask, what new thing or what dream is God asking me to step into? Does it just take me stepping in to see that become a reality?

The steps along the way are also crucial in getting us to the finish line... without those many steps, there would be no feeling of overcoming and we would never gain understanding in perseverance. This makes me think, about the steps I just took, Have I thanked God that He has been teaching me perseverance and I now feel more prepared for the next steps, till that final step?

The final step of a race, that moment of crossing the line, is a time of celebrating! It is an opportunity to see with my eyes, all the hard work, all the tears, all the laughs... it was all worth it. What things in our lives do we need to celebrate, to really give glory to God? What dream of mine has just come true?

But for a true runner, the end of one race is also the time to start preparing for the next race.

There is always one more step to take... I want to make sure I am taking it with Jesus, and stepping where He leads me and when He leads me.

STEPS OF FAITHThis September we started the training with our new DTS staff team. It is exciting to see how God brought this team together for the First DTS in Uzice, Serbia! Our staff consists of Dalibor from Croatia, Ana from Canada, Andrew from Texas, USA, Eddy from Mexico, Danny from Romania and Chris and Mirjam who are from Holland. So we have a very International staff team!As part of our DTS staff training we took a trip to Jerusalem Israel for 8 days. It was a powerful and special time. Gaining God’s heart and understanding for this land. We spent time interceding for Israel on the city walls. The theme that kept coming back to us was to have a “Two eyed vision” and Gods heart for reconciliation. His destiny and plan for Israel and for all the nations. He is faithful to Israel and the Jewish people and He will fulfill His promises (Ezekiel 36,37). Next to this we captured a heart for the prophesy in Isaiah 19:23-25, where Egypt, Israel and Assyria will be worshipping together as a blessing on the Earth. They were days well spent and we came back ready to start the first Serbian DTS ! Our DTS has a Balkan focus and we have students and staff coming from the region: Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia. We will also be reaching out in these nations plus Montenegro during the Outreach phase of the school. We sensed God is calling us to be “bridge builders”.The DTS began on the 1st of October and 5 students arrived from Serbia, Bosnia and Germany: A small, but wonderful group of young people. Our first week was on our Identity in Christ, the Cross and forgiveness and it was a powerful week and God is already at work deeply! Much more is ahead of us. So please keep us in your prayers !

His love is the place the world needs to be in...But we can’t make it there unless we are willing to take a step in. Before that step we have to make the decision to take that step..

MEMBER CAREWe have been privileged to serve with YWAM in Albania for the last 10 years before we were asked to coordinate pastoral care (MemberCare) for all the central European nations. For many years the well-being of missionaries is something that is close to our hearts. It grew out of experiencing some pretty nasty events during our YWAM career where we were rescued by the loving intervention of a member care person. We would not be in missions anymore without his help!In the early 90’s we studied Missiology at All Nation Christian College in England, which included many pastoral care topics. In spite of this and other training, e.g. in Debriefing, we are very aware that we don’t have ‘all the answers’!But we would love to come alongside you, get to know you and find out how we can encourage and support you.Hannes had a good time at the Romanian national staff conference in September, and we hope to eventually visit you all at your different YWAM locations in the region. We see ourselves as bridge builders between YOU, the pioneers in central Europe, and the pastoral resources that Western Europe has to offer. Please let us know if there is a specific way we can serve you, e.g. a Father-heart seminar, debriefing training, spiritual retreat, holiday opportunities...

A Letter from Hannes and Doris Steets

FINAL STEPSGreat news about the House of Joy!We received all the money needed to finish the 1st floor of the new House of Joy Maternity Home. A pro-life ministry from another city in Romania had property to sell and their Board voted to give all the proceeds from the sale to the House of Joy building fund. It took over a year for the sale to be complete but finally, on May 17th, we received a gift from this ministry of $44,000!!! This was just the amount needed to complete the first floor of the new maternity home! Since we received this contribution, we have been able to complete the first floor: The driveway & entrance of the new House of Joy is FINISHED!

The House of Joy, in Cluj, Romania nears completion…

An Update from Kathy Miller

That great news has been followed by good news and bad news:The Good News - We received approval from the Labor Department!! Thank you, Lord! One down, four to go! The Bad News - the city told us we may not be able to connect to the city sewer system for another year because they are so far behind on finishing the new city system. This means in order to get the home licensed we now need $3,000 to install a small septic system. And then we learned we cannot file our applications for licensing from the other four departments until the home is 100% complete and we receive our final inspection. This means we are stuck at being 98% done until we can get the new septic system installed.

We still are praying and hoping to open by the end of the year, but we need your prayers in order to get over these last hurdles…

PROJECT 600Sometimes when starting a project, the “long haul” or “end result” can be hard to picture. In the beginning of Project 600, it seemed much the same. We knew God had (and still has) a plan and we were doing our best to follow His guidance. Now we find ourselves with partners all over the world who are interested and have a heart for our ministry here in Romania. We couldn’t have predicted how any of this is turning out, that’s why ministry with God is so exciting!

When on a strategic mission, a team must be, well, strategic! Therefore, a strategy must be developed. Since the beginning of our fund-raising mission, we’ve been following the strategy that we feel God has given us. We’ve even received 3 more Project 600 partners in the last week! However, Project 600 is not the only strategy that has been voiced in our team…

Our base leader’s 5 year-old daughter, Melanie, told her father that she had an idea and wanted to share it with him the next day. She later approached her father about sharing this new idea with him. She is going to go all over the city and pick up all the money that she could find and donate it to the base building. Is this the most practical method of fund-raising? Maybe not, but a 5 year-old has connected with our vision and has a desire to help!

It was such a blessing to hear about the passion of this little girl, it gave us all a new energy in what we’re doing. We still have only 5 short months until our contract requires that we have the full amount to purchase the base building where we are currently and we’re pressing forward with God. We’ve been so encouraged by our new partners and we’re looking forward to see who God brings to partner with us in the future!

FINANCES Don’t stop reading, we have left the best for last! This next year God has been directing us as a region to really focus on finances. This can be personal finances, base fiannces, building projects, ongoing ministries, further training, anything really! We don’t want to see finances be something that stops us from finishing the race God has started us on here in Central Europe.

PROVISION TO STAY IN THE RACE SEMINARFebruary 20th - 23rdThe first event in this focus will be a seminar to be held in Romania. It will be give by Terry Sherman. More details to follow.

God is the great provider! Lets not lose sight of that!
