Most approved CDM project methodologies demand that the Additionality Tool is used. This tool describes the two possibilities to show Additionality: 1) a financial calculation or 2) a barrier analysis. If the first option was chosen the PDD will often contain the value for the investment in the project. This value is then written in the Investment column in the CDM_project sheet that contains a line of information for each CDM project. If the investment is not in US$ the value is converted to this unit using the currency table in the Invest sheet. The next step is to calculate the average investment per ton of CO2 reduced per year for each project sub-type. The CDM_project sheet has a column that for each CDM project contains the average annual GHG reduction for the first 7 year crediting period or the 10 year crediting period. For each project sub-type these values are added and then divided by the total investment for the same number of projects. To calculate this unit reduction cost the information on investment for all projects are used, including from project that are withdrawn and rejected by EB and DOEs. These unit reduction costs can be found in table 1 in the Invest sheet. The total average annual GHG reduction is now calculated for all the projects in each sub-type that are registered each year. These values are then multiplied by the unit reduction cost mentioned above in order to get the annual investment (in million US$) in these registered projects. The resulting investment time series are shown in table 1. This table also show the total expected investments in the project that are at validation and that have requested registration (calculated using the same methodology.

Table 2 show the investments for each project type, calculated by summing over sub-type in table 1.

Time series for the total expected investment in projects still at validation or having requested registration are show in table 3. In this table the projects at validation are allocated to the year, when they had their start date for their 30 days public comment period. The projects that have requested registration to the year they requested registration. The registered projects to the year of registration, and the registered projects with issuance to the year of first issuance.
