Friends

Our world6 residential summer camps, 13 day camps, 2 French hoteldestinations and 1 amazingadventure after another.

Home from HomeClean, comfortable and 100% child friendly, our centres offer all the creature comfortsof home with single-sex, age-appropriatedormitories (some en-suite) and bags ofspace in which to relax and chill out at the end of the day.

And of course we know all too well theimportance of refueling young, activebodies, so there’s plenty of fresh, healthyhot and cold food on tap when campersgather together to eat.

Endless holiday choices As well as offering our wildly popular ‘multi-activity’ holiday, each of our UK camps also run a selection of specialistadventure activities – perfect for ignitingthe imagination and introducing newhobbies from horse riding, tennis andstreet dance, to skiing, baking andBushcraft. Check out our full range ofspecialist activities on pages 8-9.

Quality childcare guaranteedThe well-being of our campers is our toppriority, so we guarantee all staff are fullytrained in health, safety and pastoral care. We’re also a founder member of the BritishActivity Holiday Association, appropriatelylicensed by the Adventurous ActivitiesLicensing Service and on the voluntary part of Ofsted’s Childcare Register.

Fantastic value for moneyKeeping children entertained during thelong school holidays means the cost ofchildcare can soon add up, so we promiseto keep our prices and the cost of ‘fun’ aslow as possible. And for working parents,we also help you spread the cost by using your ‘pre-tax’ childcare vouchers for full or part payment of our holidays.

Hassle free holidaysOur friendly team will be on hand to helpyou with every stage of the bookingprocess, from arranging transport, travelinsurance and camp kit through to providinga list of clothing required. Our holidaysreally are as simple as ‘1, 2, Hassle Free’.

A dedicated teamNo camp would be complete (or possiblefor that matter) without a great teamonboard - so it’s lucky we’ve got just that! All our staff are CRB checked, trained insafety procedures and evaluated on an on-going basis. We also have a dedicatedNSPCC trained child protection officer atevery camp. Just as importantly perhaps, allmembers of the Camp Beaumont team arepassionate about what they do and havebundles of energy to boot.

Age mattersIt’s important children feel completelycomfortable and at ease in theirsurroundings, so campers are divided intotheir respective age groups (7-11’s, 12-15’sand 16-17’s) for all activities and sleepingarrangements - although they do get to mix and mingle during meal times.

skills for life

Camp Beaumont offers a uniqueexperience that can benefit yourchild both personally and socially. We asked parents to tell us whythey send their children to camp- here are a few of the reasonsthey gave:

“Have loads of fun”Since we began over 30 years ago, we’vewelcomed over a million smiling faces to ourcamps. We continue to work tirelessly toensure all our young campers have a summerto remember.

“Make new friends”At Camp Beaumont children have the chanceto build relationships that might otherwisebe hard to develop in a school setting.Campers have the opportunity to makefriends with others from all over the world, creating a wonderful exchange of ideas andculture and returning home with an armfulof new email addresses.

“Try new activities”Our adventure activities encourage childrento take healthy risks and use their initiative, discovering their inherent talents and beingrewarded for their successes. They’ll alsohave the chance to try something new –experiencing activities and sports they may

never have seen before, let alone given a go.Parents often tell us their children enjoyedan activity so much, they continued it as ahobby at home – Camp Beaumont may wellhave influenced a whole new generation ofclimbers, kayakers and quad bikers, or even afuture Olympian or two!

“Develops children’s life skills”A visit to camp is a great way to boost yourchild’s self-esteem and help them challengetheir own boundaries. Whether they’rereaching the top of the climbing wall whenafraid of heights, or simply staying away fromhome for the first time, camp really can helpto increase their confidence. Parents oftencite this as the biggest difference they noticein their child on their return from camp. It’salso a great place for building and developinglife skills, such as independence, interdependence, tolerance, responsibilityand loyalty – giving children a real advantageover their peers as they grow up and learn to make their own way in the world.

More thanfun & friendship

Q&A’sParent guide

Q. Can I come and visit before deciding?A. Yes of course – just call us to arrange aguided tour of any of our camps.

Q. Will my child take part in all activities?A. We cannot guarantee they will take part ineverything as there’s so much on offer, but wefit in as many activities as possible.Occasionally poor weather means we have to put some activities on hold, but all campshave indoor facilities so there’s still no time to get bored!

Q. Can my child change their holiday at camp?A. As long as there is availability and we aregiven good notice. You will be asked to pay thedifference in any cost and an administrative feemay apply, but if you’re happy with the change,we’ll arrange it as soon as we can.

Q. What happens if my child has chosen tofocus on their favourite activity but wants togo on an excursion at the same time?A. Your child can choose to miss part of theirchosen activity to go on an excursion but wewon’t be able to offer you a refund. Ourexcursions take place on certain days and timesto fit with the rest of camp and the venueopening times, so there can sometimes be an overlap.

Q. How do you deal with welfare issues, likehomesickness?A. We know how important the welfare ofyour child is, so each camp has a dedicatedWelfare Manager on site. They’re great atturning tears to smiles and helping children getfully involved in camp life. If our staff have anyconcerns they will of course contact you as youknow your child best. Equally you should callour team if you have worries.

Q. How do I contact my child?A. We have activities planned from dawn tilldusk so the children often don’t have muchfree time. The first weekend is also a reallyimportant time to allow the children to settleinto camp routines. However if it is necessaryto get in touch with your child, you can useemail, or if you’d prefer to phone, call the campby midday Monday to Thursday and we will doour best to arrange a phone call for the sameevening. Please note we do have limitedphone lines and cannot guarantee a specifictime on any given day.

Q. Can my child take their mobile phone to camp?A. Yes they can but in case of loss, theft ordamage and to help prevent homesickness, amongst other things, we recommend thatyour children do not bring mobile phones tocamp. We are unable to accept responsibilityfor mobile phones and have clear policies ontheir use, in particular that they may not beused during the activities, meal times or afterchildren have retired for the night.

Q. Are there any rules?A. We have a Code of Conduct – you’ll receivea copy in your welcome pack and you and yourchild should sign and return this before arrival.Campers are also made aware of any camprules upon arrival and reminded of thesewhere appropriate throughout the stay.

Q. Can my child share a room with a friend or sibling?A. We will always do our best to keep camperstogether with their friends where we can; justlet us know who they want to share withwhen you return your Welcome forms. Pleasenote that all our dorms are arranged by ageand gender, therefore it is not possible forbrothers and sisters to share accommodation.

Age groups Campers are split into 3 main agegroups (7-11 year olds, 12-15 year oldsand 16-17 year olds) foraccommodation and all activityarrangements. However, if siblings (ofthe same sex) would like to shareaccommodation, or you feel that your12 year old would feel morecomfortable in a holiday for youngerchildren or your 15 year old wouldlike to join friends in the 16-17 yearold group, then an ‘overlap’ betweengroups can be arranged - please feelfree to discuss the options with ourteam. Please note that all oursleeping arrangements are single sexand it is not possible for brothers andsisters to share accommodation.

Equipment All specialist equipment (conformingto British or European standards) issupplied by the centre, as areapproved buoyancy aids andlifejackets, which must be worn forall watersports. At Camp Beaumontwe are continually updating oursafety equipment to reflect currentbest practices.

Off-site ActivitiesOn occasions we like children toexplore the local area; this could bean escorted walk to a nearby village,National Park or games on the beach.Children entering the sea as part of abeach visit will be accompanied by aqualified Beach Lifeguard.

46

Q. What time do campers go to bed?A. It varies according to age, with lights outgenerally at 9.30pm for younger children and11pm for the oldest campers. It is part of ourstaff’s role to get everyone to bed reasonablyon time – sometimes easier said than done!Once ‘lights out’ has been called, night dutystaff take over. They reassure the anxious, encourage the high spirited to settle downand continue their vigil until all is quiet. OurSecurity teams also monitor accommodationthroughout the night.

Q. What about children’s hygiene?A. Campers wash and shower daily, withyounger campers supervised for teethcleaning and hair brushing and older campersreceiving a gentle reminder when needed. We do however expect that campers sharethe responsibility for ensuring theywash/shower and clean teeth on a daily basis.

Q. How secure are the accommodationbuildings during the day?A. All accommodation buildings are securedwhen the children are on activities. If yourchild needs to get something from theirdormitory, their Camp Coach can let them in.We actively discourage use of thedormitories during the day and concentrateon ensuring campers are having fun.

Q. What’s the food like?A. Our food is suitable for the fast pacedactivity holiday environment offering freshlyprepared meals and varied menus with anumber of choices each day. We encouragecampers to try new things and even get mostof them to go for the salads! Please let us know about any special requirementsbefore arrival.

Q. What should my child bring to camp?A. Dont worry we’ll send you a packing listonce you’ve booked. We recommend youleave iPods, mobile phones, mp3 players, laptops etc at home as we can’t look afterthem and they’re not covered by ourinsurance. Children should bring their ownsuitable outerwear, such as a goodwaterproof anorak or kagoul, waterprooftrousers, footwear and casual clothes, including long sleeved trousers and tshirts. There’s no need for expensive or brand nameclothes that are easily lost or damaged either. We provide all the specialist safety kit neededfor our activities. Please make sure you label all items with afull name – we find it helps your childremember what they’ve packed at the end oftheir stay if you also send them along withour packing list.

Q. What about pocket money?A. We recommend your child brings up to£10 per day. We have a small shop on camp, with souvenirs and a selection of snacks anddrinks. We also offer a ‘bank’ style facilitywhere campers can keep their money safe, withdrawing a little each day to spend in the shop on gifts or snacks, or on day tripsand excursions.

Q. Can I drop my child off and pick them up from camp?A. Yes course you can, this is our mostpopular method of arrival. You should dropthem off between 3pm and 5pm on theirfirst day and pick them up between 9am and11am at the end of camp. Please note thatearly arrival or late collection may result inadditional charges.

Q. My child has a medical condition or hashad behavioural issues - can they still cometo camp?A. Please give us a call to discuss the detailswith one of our team before booking yourholiday. Whilst we pride ourselves on giving atruly inclusive camp, and it’s rare that wecan’t host a child, there may be occassionswhere our camp is not suitable for a child. The more information we have in advance, the better we are positioned to confirmsuitability or arrange suitable care. We doreserve the right to send a child homeimmediately at the parents expense with norefund if we believe their behaviour adverselyaffects the enjoyment of other campers orimapcts the safety or welfare of anyone else.

Q. Are there laundry facilities at the camp?A. We offer a laundry service specifically for children staying at camp for longer than 1 week.

Please visit our website for more Q&A’s.
