CAUSEWAY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 1ST JULY 2020 4

Daisy in Yr10 produced this great piece of writing this week for her

English work.

Silence surrounded me. Yet the room was not vacant. The life I had loved was deteriorating like a corpse left long ago to rot forgotten forever. In the distance my family all started to chatter like nothing happened carrying on but their voices were only white noise not distinctive anymore; background noise to the hellish screams of my mind as the world began to stop. Screams that defend me like scorpions of the mind poisoning me. I longed to silence the screams to feel I was in control. Escape was the only option to silence them to get freedom. Cautiously I put the flimsy blue paper mask on. Clamped on my face the mask provided safety from the world as i stepped outside

Petrified, I tried to see if there was civilization but there was nothing, no life only death. Wiping my brow as perspiration oozed from my skin. Deserted streets like toys of a child who was all grown up put on a shelf and left to collect dust. Friends and distant family gone in the blink of an eye. Faint cries of those who had lost a loved one echoed through cobblestone streets, spotless, as they were never touched, as the hustle and bustle never existed as if they were brand new. Approaching the shop, markers dictated my every move. No free movement was available. It was as if we were part of a factorie line up , not a person any more but a number or statistic in their game of life. Once rammed supermarkets bustling with summer shoppers now a barren wasteland with barely any essentials.locusts had ravaged everything stockpiling anything and everything with great plans to make toilet roll palaces. Isle upon isle confused and bewildered people weave duck and roll like army men only to abide by the law and stay safe. Fearful faces lined the tills as they were barricaded by and enclosed like a tiger in a zoo by then plastic sneeze guards each week having new plastic added to “protect” them entraping them further. As I left, hand sanitizer was given out in vast quantities . Everyone desired it; it was the elixir of life for them, their only protection from the world. As i walked back shopping in hand the heavens opened, i thought to myself how even the world was melancholic at this solemn state of affairs. Judgmental, aggressive stares were shot

in my direction like daggers as i wore my mask people believing i was infected i was a zombie in the apocalypse.

Once I returned to my prison I stared longly out the window as birds gathered in cloisters, almost mocking society and our inability to meet up with one another. Safe was the word flying around, staying safe in pandemic . I thought it was absurd . The invisible assassin not being able to see it only had two symptoms: everyone needed to be alert, frantic parents worrying about their precious child as they had a tickle in his throat. Common Sense was thrown out the window and everyone fends for themselves.

Every man for themselves.
