INVESTMENTS SIOEN industries has invested and will continue to invest in the limiting of harmful emissions and energy saving and recovery techniques. Solvent recycling by distillation at SIOEN Fabrics (producing PU coated fabrics) in Moeskroen and SIO-Line in Ardooie.

ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES SIOEN has installed 40.000 m2 of solar panels on the roof of our building in Ardooie. This will reduce the yearly CO2 exhaust with more than 1.000.000 kg.

RESOURCES AND ENERGY We promote the efficient use and reuse of natural resources & energy and use forms of energy that minimize the environmental impacts (CO2 footprint, water, waste, exhaust, air,...) of our operations.

In addition to the legal requirements regarding raw materials (REACH,... ) we are very selective on materials and suppliers used for new products. This is to limit the ecological footprint of our garments and to guarantee the innocuousness of the materials to the User e.g. EN 340, kotex 100,... (90% of our fabrics and trimmings are certified).

SEAM STRENGTH (ISO 13935-2)Determination of the strength of a seam/joint

The force necessary to break or open the weakest seam in a garment by pulling at both sides of the seam/joint. Expressed in Newton and required in many standards for protective garments.

XENON TESTDetermination of the colour fastness

Determination of the resistance of the colour of textiles to the action of an artificial light source (Xenon-arc fading lamp) representative of natural daylight. The fabric is exposed to artificial light together with a set of Blue Wool Reference under controlled humidity. The colour fastness is evaluated by comparing the change in colour of the fabric with that of the Blue Wool Reference used (grade 1 to 8). Requirement for HiVis EN 471 complying fabrics.

BALLYFLEX TESTER (ISO 7854/B) Determination of flex cracking resistance of waterproof material

The number of flexing cycles a waterproof, chemical protective fabric can withstand without showing damages, without losing its waterproof properties. Expressed in number of cycles and divided into 6classes (from 1000 up to 100000 cycles).

WASH TEST: HOME/INDUSTRIAL WASHDetermination of the washing durability of the garments

Finished garments go through a specified number of washing cycles in order to determine washing durability.

SURFACE CONDUCTIVITYDetermination of the surface conductivity of a antistatic fabric

Determination of the surface conductivity of a antistatic fabric. This measuring principle is used on fabrics with surface conductive yarns or homogenous conductive outside coating layers.

TENSILE STRENGTH TESTDetermination of mechanical performance

The force necessary to tear a fabric, measured by the force to start or continue a tear in a fabric. Expressed in Newton. The trouser shaped test method is prescribed in a lot of types of protective garments.

This test measures the limited spread of flames of vertically oriented textile fabrics (one or several layers), when subjected to a small defined flame. A defined flame from a specified burner is applied for 10 seconds to the surface or to the bottom edge.

SPRAY TESTDetermination of the water repellency

The evaluation of the test is visual appreciation of the surface of the fabric (number of absorption points on the surface).

HEAT TRANSFER FLAMEDetermination of the heat transfer index

This standard defines a method to compare the Heat Transfer Index (HTI) of materials and material assemblies.

MARTINDALE TESTDetermination of the abrasion resistance

In the Martindale test, wool or sandpaper is used to rub the fabric over and over again with considerable pressure. Depending on how tough the fabric needs to be, this vigorous rubbing can continue non-stop for hours... or even days.

HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE TESTDetermination of resistance to water penetration

The standard specifies a hydrostatic pressure method for determining the resistance of fabrics to penetration by water. The highest class of water penetration resistance in this European Standard was deduced from several national norms which imposed a test pressure of 0.13 bar (1300mm).

HEAT TRANSFER RADIATIONDetermination of heat transfer radiation

The test EN ISO 6942 exposes the fabrics of the suit to an intense radiant heat (40 kW /m). The threshold of pain (1st degree burns ) is defined, as well as the moment that 2nd degree burns originate and the reaction time (the time between RHTI 12 and RHTI 24).

PUNCTURE RESISTANCE (EN 863)Determination of mechanical performance

The puncture resistance is specified in the standards for chemical protective garments. The force necessary to push a pointed object through a chemical protective fabric. Expresses in Newton and divided into 6 classes (from 5N up to 250N)

CRUMPLE FLEX TEST (EN ISO 7854:1997 METHOD C) Determination of repeated flexing resistance of waterproof material

Waterproof material used in rain garments (EN343) must withstand 9000 cycles of repeated flexing without losing its waterproofness. This test is also a method to evaluate/compare different waterproof materials.

Het multi-layer concept van SIOEN bestaat erin om verschillende interactieve kledinglagen met elkaar te combineren die elk hun eigen rol vervullen.

1 Basis laag Deze laag wordt dicht tegen de huid gedragen. De verschillende vezels en weefsels waaruit deze basislaag opgebouwd is, absorberen de transpiratie en transporteren deze weg van de huid. Bepaalde kledingstukken zijn anti-bacterieel en hebben platte naden, wat een onaangename irritatie van de huid voorkomt. Deze laag creert een micro-klimaat dicht bij de huid om de drager warm, droog en comfortabel te houden.

2 Thermische laag Deze thermische laag is de isolerende laag. Fleece stoffen worden meestal als tussenlaag gebruikt. Fleece is zeer comfortabel en heeft uitstekende isolerende eigenschappen; wat de drager warm houdt.

3 Bescherm laag Deze laag wordt vaak aan extreme omstandigheden blootgesteld en biedt bescherming tegen alle weersomstandigheden zoals wind, regen, hagel en sneeuw. Daarnaast biedt deze laag ook bescherming tegen chemicalin, vlammen en elektrische lichtbogen. Afhankelijk van het type gebruik, is onze kleding ademend, wind- en waterdicht.

This concept signifies that multiple, interactive layers of clothing are used together. Each layer has its own complementary function.

1 Base LayerThis layer is worn next to the skin. The different fibres and fabrics used for these garments absorb perspiration and disperse it away from the skin. Some garments are antibacterial and most items have flat seams, thus preventing unpleasant irritation of the skin. This layer creates a micro-climate close to the skin in order to keep the wearer warm, dry and comfortable.

2 Thermal LayerThe thermal layer is the insulation layer. Fleece fabrics are frequently used as the intermediary layer. Fleeces are very comfortable to wear and have good insulating characteristics, keeping the wearer warm.

3 Protection LayerThis layer is often exposed to severe conditions. It offers protection against harsh weather conditions such as wind, rain, hail and snow. This protective layer can also protect the wearer from dangerous chemicals, accidental flames and electrical arc flashes. Depending on the type of use our clothing is breathable, windproof and waterproof.

1 Couche de base Cette couche est en contact avec la peau. Les fibres et tissus de ce vtement absorbent la transpiration et l'vacuent vers l'extrieur. 2 Couche thermique La couche thermique intermdiaire est la couche isolante. Des tissus polaires sont frquemment utiliss comme couche intermdiaire. Ces polaires sont extrmement confortables et offrent d'excellentes caractristiques isolantes qui maintiennent le porteur au chaud.

3 Couche de protection Cette couche est souvent expose des conditions extrmes et offre une protection contre les intempries telles que le vent, la pluie; la grle et la neige. Cette couche de protection protge l'utilisateur galement des produits chimiques dangereux, des flammes et des arcs lectriques. Dpendant du type d'utilisation, le vtement est respirant, tanche au vent et l'eau.

1 Basis Schicht Diese Schicht wird direkt auf der Haut getragen. Clothing absorbs this perspiration and can act as a barrier to heat and moisture loss. If over-heating is to be avoided, thermoregulation and moisture management are key functions of clothing designed for use in working environments. When activity decreases, body heat will be taken away from the body surface and the moisture evaporates from the wet clothing. The body gets cold. Through effective thermoregulation and moisture management a clothing system can maximise heat loss when the wearer is doing heavy activity and then increase thermal insulation when perspiration stops.

Whilst undergoing heavy activity a body generates additional metabolic heat. Perspiration is produced as part of the natural mechanism for the dispersion of that heat.
