A superb glazing optionSTRENGTH & IMPACT RESISTANCEMarlon CS Longlife has exceptionalimpact resistant properties making itsuitable for use in areas with a high riskof glazing breakage, such as areas proneto vandalism or hail storms. The shatterresistance of the sheet is up to 200 timesstronger than glass.Thicker sheet optionsare available to provide greater strengthwhere required.
WEATHER RESISTANCEMarlon CS Longlife will retain its physicalproperties in extreme weather conditionsmaking it an ideal roofing materialthroughout the world. Marlon CS Longlifecan withstand temperature extremesfrom -40ºC to 100ºC (-40 to 212ºF)long term and up to 130ºC short term.No other glazing material can offer thiscombination of impact resistance andwide working temperature range.
LIGHTTRANSMISSIONMarlon CS Longlife provides directnatural light into a building, with clearpolycarbonate providing almost 90% lighttransmission. To allow solar control tintedsheet options are available.
UV PROTECTIONAn effective barrier preventing theinfiltration of 98% of harmful UVradiation can be created using Marlon CSLonglife. The co-extruded UV barrier also
significantly reduces the effects ofweathering on the sheet, protecting itfrom discoloration and degradation.
CHEMICAL RESISTANCEPolycarbonate has good resistance tomany chemicals (with the exception ofsolvents and alkalis) so is often suitablefor use in aggressive environments.
ANTI-DRIPThe optional anti-drip surface layer onselected profiles prevents the formationof water droplets in high humidityenvironments.
FIRE PERFORMANCEMarlon CS Longlife exhibits excellentfire performance and in the event ofa fire it will soften and open, allowingsmoke, heat and gases produced by thefire to escape. This ‘venting’ propertymeans that damage within buildings canbe limited. For details of fire ratingsplease contact our Technical department.

IMPACT RESISTANCEOf all glazing materials polycarbonate exhibitsgreatest resistance to impact over a temperaturerange of -40 to +130°C. It is up to 200 timesmore resistant to impact than glass. High impactresistance means that Marlon CS Longlife issuitable for use in areas with a high risk ofglazing breakage, such as areas prone tovandalism or hail storms, where otherglazing materials might be inappropriate.
FALLING DART IMPACTTESTThe impact test illustrated demonstrates theimpact resistance of Marlon CS Longlife.A striker of diameter 16mm contacts a sampleof sheet placed on a support ring with innerdiameter 38mm.A weight of 1.8kg is droppedon to the striker from a height of 1.5m.The resulting impact energy of 27Nm only dentsthe sample: it does not crack or penetrate.
Polycarbonate has a good combination of physical, thermal and opticalproperties which make it a very suitable rooflight material.

Working with
CHEMICAL RESISTANCEMarlon CS Longlife has, in general, excellent resistance to most chemicals;resistance to specific compounds depends on concentration and temperature, duration of exposure and stress within the sheet. Contact with plastic coatedmetal sheets, wet wood preservatives, solvents and alkali cleaners should beavoided. For details on the chemical resistance of Marlon CS Longlife to arange of chemicals please refer to the Marlon CS Longlife product guide.
IMPACT RESISTANCEMarlon CS Longlife is highly resistant to breakage due to impact. Simulated hailtests have shown that 20mm diameter hailstones impacting the sheet at a speedof 21m/s will not cause breakage. Marlon CS Longlife carries a 3 year warrantyin respect of weather breakage, as defined in the Marlon CS LonglifeWarrantyLeaflet, available separately.
WORKABILITYMarlon CS Longlife can be cut or drilled using standard power tools. Please refer to the technical manual for full details.
CONDENSATIONCondensation will form on the underside of a roof made from any thin sheetingmaterial. To minimise condensation within an enclosed structure, sources ofmoisture should be minimised and good ventilation should be provided.
STORAGEStore Marlon CS Longlife sheets on horizontal flat surfaces, pallets or woodenbearers with flat surfaces at least l00mm wide placed at centres not exceeding900mm. Storage should be indoors as far as possible.Where Marlon CS Longlifeis stored outdoors it must be protected from the sun, wind and water. Coversecurely with an opaque waterproof cover draped over timbers placed on the topof the stack and ensure that the stack is ventilated to prevent heat build up.Never stack more than 1.2m high. Sunlight is magnified in passing through evena few uncovered stacked sheets, increasing their temperature and leading todistortion and degradation.Water between the sheets accentuates these processes.
SAFETYMarlon CS Longlife is a glazing material and should therefore be handled with duecare at all times. NEVER walk on Marlon CS Longlife sheets.Where access acrossa Marlon CS Longlife covered roof is necessary, use walking boards placed acrossat least three purlins to spread the load.
Marlon CS Longlife exhibits exceptional impact resistance, up to two hundredtimes that of glass. If someone accidentally falls or walks on a correctly installedMarlon CS Longlife rooflight it is unlikely that a serious accident will result.

Installation guidelines
06
• When installing any roofing material, including rooflights, ensure that safe working methodsare adopted and appropriate safety equipment is used.
• Sealants and tapes must be compatible with polycarbonate.
• All accessory materials should be light coloured, preferably white.
• Sheets which span up to two purlin spacings are of optimum length to cope with thermal movement.
• Maximum recommended sheet length for Marlon CS Longlife is 4m.
THERMAL MOVEMENTMarlon CS Longlife has a very high coefficient of linearexpansion; a 3m long sheet will expand by 5mm for atemperature rise of 25°C.To accommodate thermal movementarising from temperature changes, holes drilled through thesheet for fixings must be oversized.
HOLE SIZETo accommodate thermal movement, holes for fixings shouldbe drilled 6mm greater in diameter than the fixing shank forsheet lengths up to 2m and an additional 3mm per additionalmetre length of sheet. For example, in a 4m long sheet, holesshould be overdrilled by 12mm. Failure to accommodatethermal movement will cause buckling of the sheet.
FASTENER INSTALLATION
Over tightSlantedCorrect
KEY POINTSFasteners must not be over-tightened as this will preventthermal movement of the Marlon CS Longlife with changesin temperature.
Marlon CS Longlife must be isolated from plastisol coatingsusing an aluminium foil barrier tape.
CLEANING & MAINTENANCETo maintain the light transmission of any glazingmaterial, periodic cleaning is necessary.
Marlon CS Longlife must be cleaned with some care,as it is not resistant to all cleaners and the surface canbe marked easily.
The recommended cleaning procedure is as follows:
• Use lukewarm water to rinse sheet and softendried dirt
• Make up a solution of lukewarm water and ordinaryhousehold cleaner or a mild soap and use this towash sheet
• Use a sponge or soft cloth to gently remove dirtand grime
• Rinse with clean lukewarm water and repeat washingif necessary
• After final rinse dry off with a soft cloth
NOTE:
1. Never scrub Marlon CS Longlife with brushes, abrasivematerials or sharp tools
2. Never use strong alkali or abrasive cleaners3. Never steam clean: use low pressures
if pressure washing4. Never use acetone, petrol, benzene, or solvents
containing Butyl Cellosolve or Isopropanol
It is advisable to test the suitability of any cleaner on asample piece of Marlon CS Longlife first. After installation, labels, glazing compounds etc. can be removed usingpetroleum spirit, after which wash the sheet as describedin the above procedure.
