Possessing an understanding and experience of all types of

industrial applications, Castell's local engineers routinely visit

customers premises to analyse safety problems. They will

also help with risk assessments and offer advise on the most

appropriate safety interlocking system for the application.

Castell is also able to install and commission safety

interlocking systems, as well as provide operator and

maintenance training and provide planned maintenance

Where possible, hazards should be removed at the design stage of the machine or process

If this is not possible additional protective devices should be used.

Selection of the most appropriate interlock will depend on a number of specific factors. To fully appreciate the manyvariables it is important that a comprehensive risk assessment of the machine or process is undertaken.

Castell Safety has been established in the power

generation and distribution industries since its very

creation in 1922. Our range of products have been

with interlocks of high quality and integrity. Close liaison

interlocks designed specifically for use on many of the

leading manufacturers own breakers, isolators,

disconnectors and earth mechanisms.

Precipitators, stainless steel and weatherproof locks for

use in sub-stations, chrome plated locks for areas where

Y & Z Key Exchange Unit - One Key to Release any NumberRandom release of secondary keys by insertion of an initial key.

The Y box is suitable for releasing six or more keys, with noupper limit, with the keys being released in any order once theisolation (end key) has been inserted.

The Z box is suitable for releasing up to 5 keys with the keysbeing released in any order once the isolation (end key) hasbeen inserted. The unit will generally be the link between the isolation locksand the access products.

The Y & Z boxes are supplied in an enclosure suitable forsurface mounting.

These locks use all stainless steel components. They areused where a harsh physical environment is present.Examples would be in steel mills, paper mills and sub-stations (D / BD not available in st/stl).

B r i g h t N i c k e l P l a t e

This provides a bright finish and appearance to keys andlock bodies.

B r i g h t C h r o m e P l a t e

This is also an appearance finish for keys and lockbodies but in addition provides a hard protective coating

to the brass.

N e o p r e n e S e a l

Attached to certain sealing keys to help prevent particlesor liquid from entering the lock mechanism. It protects thelock in dusty, sandy or wet environments.

F l a n g e G a s k e t

Used for panel mounted flange interlocks, for examplethe KS20 interlock switch. The gasket provides a sealbetween the flange and the panel mounting. Normallyused in conjunction with an neoprene seal.

A range of enclosures provide different levels ofprotection, depending on the particular requirement:- explosion and flameproof.- IP rating.- stainless steel

OPERATION

This system will require a total of three locks & two keys.Under normal operation the two keys are trapped in the'closed' position incomers. The system will allow anincomer to be 'opened' and the key released. This key isthen transferred and inserted in the other 'open' incomer,which can then be closed. This ensures that only two ofthe three incomers can be closed simultaneously.

OPERATION

This system will require a total of five locks & three keys.In the normal operation the keys will be trapped in'closed' position and both bus couplers are 'open'. Thesymbol sequence will allow appropriate incomers to be

'open' allowing the key to be released, transferred andinserted and trapped to the associated bus coupler,allowing it to be closed.

OPERATION

This system will require a total of four locks & two keys.In the situation shown the keys are trapped in incomer 1& 2 with the switches in the 'closed' position. Both thebus coupler and incomer 3 are 'open'. The symbolsequence will only allow incomer 3 or the bus coupler tobe 'closed' after the appropriate key has been released,transferred and inserted into bus coupler or incomer 3lock.

OPERATION

This system will require a total of six K or FS locksdepending on the breakers, one key exchange box and sixkeys.Breakers A & B are closed and the keys are trapped. Keys

A & B are removed from the breakers when they areopened and inserted into the X key exchange box,releasing the C keys. The C Keys are then inserted in theC locks, closing Breakers C.

To change to position 1 from normalonly breaker with symbol A19 are

'Opened' and their keys are insertedand trapped in the key exchange box.The asterisks denote that incomers 3& 4 remain closed and need not bereturned to the key exchange box.

To change to position two fromnormal only brakers with symbol A20are 'Opened and their keys areinserted and trapped in the keyexchange box. The asterisks denotethat incomers 1 and 2 remain closedand need not be returned to the key

exchange box.
