(Sept. 8, 2014) — Proctors is hoping to bring out play buffs, music lovers, and investors alike to take part of what is soon to be local history. Cassandra: The Musical, written, produced, and composed by Schenectady native Patrick Longo is set to debut at the GE Theater on Saturday, Sept. 13. Patrick Longo has been working on Cassandra: The Musical since its original conception in 2000, writing over 70 songs for the production. The 13-year process culminated in Longo having raised over $23,000 in donations through Kickstarter. The play will be centered on the mythical princess, Cassandra of ancient Troy, who gains the power to see the future from the Greek god Apollo. Cassandra promises to love him, but is cursed by Apollo after rescinding her engagement. The play will highlight Cassandra’s struggle and journey to break the curse and protect the fate of the world. Longo was initially discouraged by the complexity of producing the project. Due to the significant amount of work and fundraising required to put on an original musical, Longo almost gave up on the production, but taking inspiration from the resolve of his then-ill five-month-old son, and remembering his own brush with death as a child, Longo was able to summon the courage to have his voice heard, much like the protagonist of his play. Longo hopes that Cassandra will inspire those who do not have faith in their own voices to step up and be heard just as he did. Cassandra: The Musical will premiere on Sept. 13 at the GE Theater with two showings, one at 2 p.m. and another at 8 p.m. being billed as the actual premiere. Longo’s production company, Upaya Productions, is producing the show with Printz & Patternz (P&P) as a sponsor. Tickets are available at proctors.org for $36 and $42. Discount tickets are available with the promotional code PRINTZ111. For more about Longo and the show, please visit cassandrathemusical.com. ###
