the One who stumbled out of a cem-etery, of all places, and started some-thing new. See you Sunday.

Grace and peace,

Can you recall the first time you rode a bike? Swam in the ocean? Began a new job?

How about endings? The end of school and graduation? The change in jobs? Saying goodbye to friends or family and moving to a new place? The death of a loved one?

Beginnings and endings often become times when God speaks to us most clearly. Perhaps it is because transitions leave us unsure, so at such times we look for God and lis-ten for God more closely.

We conclude the “I AM” series with Jesus’ final “I AM” statement – “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” The Book of Revelation records this statement, written to people in the throes of conflict and uncertainty. Within a few verses of the opening chapter, Jesus offers those reassuring words. And then again, toward the conclusion of the book, He speaks those words two more times. It is the first thing He says, and the last thing He wants

them to remember.

Perhaps He says them because He understands how difficult begin-nings and endings can be. So, to re-member those words is to remember that in every beginning and in every ending, Christ is there – with us, for us.

By the time you read this, we will have concluded another Vaca-tion Bible School week. Robyn Rhodes ran with the retro-theme of “A Groovy Kind of God,” and it’s been marvelous! From an era that ended years ago, she found a fresh way to share the hope of Christ. An ending and a beginning.

The kids have had a blast (ask one of them what it was like to use a slingshot and a water balloon to bring down Goliath!). And even though the fun and crafts have come to an end, chances are something of those stories will stay with them. An ending and a beginning.

Maybe that’s what Jesus had in mind. That something of His words and something from His miracles would stay with us, too. So that when we found ourselves at a seem-ing dead end, we might remember

First and last things This Week in Worship June 11, 2017 Trinity Sunday

Bible Study for all ages – 9:45 a.m.

Worship Celebration 8:40 a.m. and 10:55 a.m.

Message: “I Am... the Alpha and Omega”

(Rev. 1:1-8; Matthew 28:16-20) Conclusion of “‘I Am…’ – Jesus in His Own

Words”

Jesus describes Himself as the Al-pha and Omega, the first and last

letters of the Greek alphabet. What does it mean to think of our lives

having their beginning in Christ, or to view Christ as the goal to which we are moving? In worship, we’ll explore how His promise of being

both the starting point and the end-ing point of life means that all of life – past, present and future – is lived

under His care.
