  • Villette HousingThe Villette Housing proposal is located west of the Parc de la Villette in Paris, France along the Canal Saint Martin within the 19th Arrondissement. The studio conducted a thorough study of housing types to determine a set of principles for initial site proposals. Density, circulation, public vs. private, and lighting studies are central to the design of the Villete proposal. The spiral form allows for direct connection to the elevated linear park that is expanding along an abandoned railway. The roof touches the park to allow for public roof access, allowing a panorama of Paris.

  • Hayden Mill MuseumThe Hayden Mill Mueseum is a collarborative cross-discipline proposal that encompases the Hayden Flour Mill site on Mill Ave. and Rio Salado Pkwy. in Tempe, Arizona. The museum is an adaptive reuse project that is engages the rich textures and cultural history of the site. The process of documenting the construction phases and collaging the cultural evolution of the native Pima Indians and their ancestors, the Hohokam. The tectonics of the Pima basketry and story of water usage on the site inspired the design of the mueseum reuse.

  • Avondale Teen CenterThe Old Town Avondale Teen Center responds to the existing social context through expressive forms and dynamic open spaces. The high teen crime rate and low graduation rate expose a need for a safe, open environment for the youth to prepare for their future and engage with the community. The proposal is a response to a design charette with the youth of Avondale. The site includes typical community center programs a gym, classrooms, and multi-purpose rooms but also includes a retail and exhibition space for the youth to engage with the community. At the design charette, the teens expressed a desire to gain practical skills by providing a service to the community. The youth directors expressed a desire to be able to develop and open different spaces over time as staffing and funding becomes available. Division of spaces allows for project phasing.

  • Menil Drawing InstituteThe Menil Drawing Institute is an addition to the Menil Collection Campus in Houston, Texas. This comprehensive design proposal includes a master plan concept for the addition of the drawing institute, auditorium, cafe, and bookstore. The location of the Menil Campus within a suburban neighborhood in Houston inspired the use of simple textures that respond to the materials of the context. A delicate lighting strategy that creates a dynamic experience between the gallery rooms allows for a structured exhibit layout.

  • Flatpack Cardboard ChairThe assignment was to design and build a lightweight chair that could hold a 200lb person and is made of recycled materials. Sustainable product design was encouraged and the concept of cradle-to-cradle lifecycles was explored.

  • Latin America Collage

We sculpted the issue of income disparity within latin america by expressing the defined class structure through a series of materials. The welding of the steel and interlocking and weaving of hemp suggests the diverging dialogues in latin american communities. The project was exhibited and successfully represented the expanding issues in latin american society.
