MATERIALS Large outline of a human in flipchart paper – to be stuck on the wall for evaluation section Post it notes
INTRODUCTION TIME: 10MINSAspirationsAsk the young people to get into pairs and discuss the following questions: Where do you want to be in 3 years time and why? How you are going to get there? Suggested activities include using a tree or timeline
SESSION CONTENT
ACTIVITY ONE TIME: 45MINS
Dragon’s Den!! Each group must develop a case for their pathway and why young people should consider it. The can
be as imaginative and creative as they like Each group will then take turns at presenting their ideas and being the “Dragons” Each presentation must be no more than 4 minutes Explain to participants that when they are acting as the “Dragons”, they must be thinking about the
pros and the cons After one group has put forward their ‘pitch’ the other young people can ask questions and raise
issues that came from it.
PathwaysSplit the young people into small groups – no more than five per group. Using www.youngscotinfoline.org and other sources each group to research one of the following pathways to present back to their peers in the style of Dragon’s Den Self employment Getting a job Further Education Higher Education Training – Skill seekers Training – Modern Apprenticeships Working abroad
EVALUATION TIME: 5MINS
‘Think feel do’Each young person to think about the following questions, record their responses on post-it notes and stick them to the outline on the human being on the wall: what they have learnt from these sessions (stick post-its to the head) How they feel about the pathways available to them (stick post its to the head) What action are they going to take – it is important that this is SMART (specific, measured,
achievable, realistic, timed). These post its should be stuck to the hands of the human outline.
