1 Carbonxt Announced as Winner of DOE Water Resource Recovery Prize Gainesville, FL – July 14, 2020 – Carbonxt is pleased to announce that it has been selected as one of ten winners of the first phase of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Water Resource Recovery Prize. As part of the Water Security Grand Challenge, this competition seeks to advance transformational technology and innovation to meet the global need for safe, secure and affordable water. In this two-phased competition, DOE seeks novel, systems-based solutions from multidisciplinary teams for projects at small to medium sized water resource recovery facilities (WRRF). President of Carbonxt, Regina Rodriguez, PhD, stated, “We are excited about this award which will support our commercialization of this innovative technology. We’re incredibly thankful to DOE for its recognition of our proposal and how it addresses the significant and adverse impacts excess nutrients have on human health and the environment. We look forward to progressing on to Phase II of the Challenge!” Florida’s long history of battling algal bloom and non-point source pollution has identified several main sources of excess phosphates in water, including runoff from agricultural sites, wastewater, industrial processes, and fertilizers. The varied nature of these sources makes effective solutions challenging to implement. Increasing concerns for the dangerous effects of high nutrient levels have led to new emerging policy and regulatory initiatives. Carbonxt’s technology, HydRestor TM , has proven to significantly reduce phosphorous levels while offering the potential for re-use as a soil amendment. The company has confirmed commercial pilots with three entities within Florida that are in various stages of implementation. About Carbonxt Carbonxt is an active participant in the global effort to reduce pollutants in the environment through the development of engineered technologies centered around activated carbons. The company’s industry-recognized R&D team focuses on the continual development of advanced engineered sorbents to meet stringent emission compliance requirements. Carbonxt’s extensive experience and expertise in air and water emission regulations and R&D allow the company to provide its customers with superior products, multiple patented and patent-pending technologies, reliable performance, customized solutions, and consistent quality.
