SolidWorks for Aerospace

• Overhaul of existing functionality– Surfaces, Reference Planes

• New ways to get your job done– Direct Editing and Feature Recognition– Work with your native customer data

• Create tooling and fixtures• Create fabricated components• Verify engineering intent• Test manufacturability of components• Create Operation Sheets

Overhaul of Existing Tools

Reference Planes• Work like familiar and easy to use Mates• Doubles the amount of planes that you can

create in 1 step

Using Imported and Customer Data

• Import using standard SolidWorks tools– IGES, STEP, SAT (ACIS), Parasolid X_T, UG PRT (body

only), ProE prt or asm, KeyCreator ckd or prt, ect…– Use FeatureWorks and / or Direct Editing

• Import using Datakit Translator– Native Unigraphics NX or CATIA V4 or V5– Part, Assembly and Drawing Import

Page 8: CAPU: SolidWorks for Aerospace Component Mfg

Using Imported and Customer Data

• Creating Formed Tooling– We can account for

overbend on complex formed surfaces

• Mold, Tool and Die work can be done in SolidWorks with Imported or native data

Page 9: CAPU: SolidWorks for Aerospace Component Mfg

Create fabricated components

• Take imported geometry and convert to sheet metal– Supports Multi-body– Cut lists– Weld beads– Run Design Checks– Run Mfg Checks– Export directly to DXF

Create Operation Sheets

• Show step by step instructions for:– Machining

Operations– Sheet Metal

Forming– Assembly
