Caps SI module (3 of 4)
Transcript of Caps SI module (3 of 4)
Prepare a short, 2-3 minute introduction about SI for your class. Organize your presentation as though you were attempting to answer questions students might have about the program. Assignment #5:Bring your written responses with you
to the in-person training. What is SI? When do SI review sessions start? What’s in it for me?
Individual presentations: Each of you will have up to 3 minutes to introduce SI to the group. You must stand at the front of the room and write your information on the board as you would on the first day of class.
Introducing SI to the Class
Session Plans
Session plans are going to be due every week of the semester
This allows us to keep a record of what you've done for the class and it’s available for the next semester
Session plans will help you and future SI leaders keep track of content reviewed, activities used, and challenges experienced by students as they relate to the material or SI model
A supervisor will review your session plans and provide you with feedback for ongoing development.
Discussions with the Program Special ist, the Assistant Coordinator, Student Managers and/or returning SI leaders during your prep t ime
Collaborative Learning Tool Kits give quick snapshots of activit ies that you can use to review content for your courses. These are great for tr iggering ideas! Avai lable in the Program Special ist’s office.

SI RESOURCES
Facebook groups are encouraged for each SI supported course because they give your students a forum to communicate, interact, and solve problems outside of SI sessions
Your supervisors will facilitate the setup of Facebook groups for any SI Leaders who are interested
Once you’re in the group, you’ll be made an administrator and will be the primary person in charge of your group.
Questions or concerns? Let your Program Specialist know!
Not a Facebook user? Don’t want a group for your SI? Just let your Program Specialist know.

FACEBOOK GROUPS
Student Resource Reps (SRRs) are the first point of contact for students to CAPS services.
Be sure that your students log in and log out with the SRR before and after each SI session. This is important because SI
receives funding based on student utilization so we need to keep track of who’s using our services.
SRRs can help you in cases of technical difficulties, and when you have questions and concerns about CAPS policies and procedures.
SI RESOURCES (CONTINUED) STUDENT RESOURCE REPRESENTATIVES
Sign-in sheets are used when you do not have a Student Resource Representative (SRR) logging your students in and out of your sessions. This is most typical during test reviews.
Always keep a couple of sign-in sheets with you just in case (e.g. SRR is absent, technical difficulties, etc.)
You can find sign-in sheets in the student lounge. If you run out, let the front desk know and they will print out more.

SI Lecture Assignment #6: Take notes on the lecture and bring
them to in-person training
• Watch the lecture on “Learning Styles and the Importance of Critical Self-Reflection”
• Dr. Tesia Marshik - Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse
Remember to take notes exactly as you would during a lecture for one of your classes. This means you do not have the ability to watch it twice, rewind it, or pause for breaks.
