Welcome to the 3rd Annual Capital Showdown hockey tournament. We believe you made a great decision to participate in the tournament, and appreciate your choosing a Showdown Tournament in lieu of the many other tournaments available to you. We believe your experience is what you make of it, but we promise to do our best to make your weekend a great one! I am looking forward the games and meeting all of you. Hockey tournaments have been in the Harrington family since 1972. The original tournaments started in Tonawanda, NY and are still in operation today. Almost 20 years after the first tournament our family hosted the 1 st Country & Western Showdown. It was a great success with teams from Canada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida. However, shortly after the 2 nd Country & Western Showdown my father, the founder of these tournaments, was in a terrible automobile accident. His death brought upon many challenges, which included having to make an important decision on the future of the tournaments. Over twenty years of tournaments would have come to an end; however, my family was encouraged by many to continue the legacy. From 1993-2000, my brother and I continued to host the tournaments originated in Buffalo, NY and Nashville, TN. In 2000, my brother and I split the tournaments due to the time commitment and pressure of maintaining full time professional careers. In 2001, my family hosted the 1 st Crabtown Showdown tournament. Over the past ten years the Crabtown Showdown has grown from 23 teams to 93 teams. In 2010, we hosted the 1 st annual Capital Showdown tournament. Within just a few short years this tournament has grown from two to twelve divisions hosting some 60 teams. These tournaments have been great successes and we thank all of the teams for their continued support. Whitney and I both come from hockey backgrounds. Hockey tournaments have been in the Harrington family since 1972. The original tournaments started in Tonawanda, NY and are still in operation today. Almost 20 years after the first tournament our family hosted the 1st Country & Western Showdown. It was a great success with teams from Canada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida. However, shortly after the 2nd Country & Western Showdown my father, the founder of these tournaments, was in a terrible automobile accident. In 2001, my family hosted the 1st Crabtown Showdown tournament. Over the past ten years the Crabtown Showdown has grown from 23 teams to 93 teams. In 2010, we hosted the 1st annual Capital Showdown tournament. Within just a few short years this tournament has grown from two to twelve divisions hosting some 60 teams. These tournaments have been great successes and we thank all of the teams for their continued support.

Whitney and I both come from hockey backgrounds. Whitney first started skating when her father managed his first outdoor ice rink in Annapolis, MD in 1991. At night time before closing Whitney, her brothers, and friends would play some hockey under the lights. These late night skates encouraged Whitney to join an all women’s team and play hockey with other women that shared the same ambitions. Since the kids, Whitney hasn’t found the time to play hockey, but continues to skate and support her kids with hockey and other extracurricular activities. Whitney recently graduated from the University of Maryland with an undergraduate degree in education, and continues to actively pursue her talents playing flute with different groups and bands. In addition to all of this, Whitney devotes many hours each year to organize and provide all of the participating teams a great tournament.

As for myself, I starting playing hockey at age five and continue to play to this day. My youth years of playing led to two Junior Level National Championships, Division III Collegiate hockey, coaching, and refereeing. I played my youth hockey in Buffalo, NY mostly with the Amherst Knights and Wheatfield Blades. I played one year of Division III hockey at Canisus College in Buffalo, NY and two years at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA. I have been a head and assistance coach of several travel, recreational, and middle school hockey teams since college. Currently, I am taking a break from coaching and enjoying watching my son from a parent’s perspective in his second year at Dematha high school and first year with the Metro

Maple Leafs hockey program. My main job for the past 20 years has been with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Washington, DC. Currently, I work in the Office of Enforcement, Division of Audits as Branch Chief. Our audits help ensure competitive and discriminatory free wholesale markets exist, and regulated utilities have proper checks and balances ensure customers are paying just and reasonable rates. My goal is to reach 25 years of service and then shift gears to focus on youth tournaments, and make them even better.

Over the years the most important thing our family has learned about hockey is keeping it competitive. We view hockey as an activity for kids to improve personal skills, keep healthy, build confidence, make lasting friendships, and encounter experiences they would have not otherwise had the opportunity to do elsewhere. It’s important to realize that very few our children will get the opportunity to play at the highest levels of this game. We encourage you to allow your children to live this dream, but don’t live it for them. Do not force winning at all costs, but rather encourage they exemplify a hard work ethic, sportsmanship, team work, respect, and commitment. In twenty years, your kids will not remember who won the game or who scored the most points, but they will remember the coach that tried to make them a better player and person, parents that cheered and supported them and the teams on the ice, talks with mom and dad to and from the ice rinks, and away trips swimming in the pool and eating out with their teammates. At best, you should hope your child’s love for the game provides them a passion in life that they can continue to use and share with others throughout their lives. Parents and coaches always remind your children they must believe in themselves before others will believe in them. Great things will come thereafter!

Yours in HockeyBrian & Whitney Harrington

CAPITAL SHOWDOWN TOURNAMENT INFORMATION PACKAGE

Tournament Registration - All teams will register their team prior to each tournament game with a tournament official. For the first game players from each team will officially sign in at the tournament registration table. Also the team manager will complete the score sheet before each game. Upon completion the manager should pass the score sheet to the opposing team or to the scorekeeper if already completed by both teams. Managers must have in their possession throughout the tournament an official signed USA Hockey roster and provide the tournament director a copy upon sign in if any changes occurred since submitting it with your application. Also you should keep a copy of the score sheet for each tournament game played. If one of your players or coaches receives a game misconduct you must inform the tournament director when you arrive to the rink for your next game. On your score sheet for the next game, you must identify the player or coach serving the game misconduct, so all officials are aware of this before the game begins.

Team Placement - Showdown Tournaments takes ever effort to place teams in competitive divisions. Competitive classification systems (AA, A, A1, A2, B, B1, B2, C, House Select, and house) vary or have different meanings from area to area throughout the United States. Expect to encounter teams that may have different eligibility rules or classification systems that may not necessarily correspond to what you are accustomed to in your particular area. Further there will be teams that move up or down a classification based on their overall record. For example, a team participating in the Southern Youth Hockey League at the Squirt A1 level is in last place out of 8 teams. When analyzing their games, we learn they are not only in last place but consistently losing each game by five or more goals. This team has a high potential of moving from the A1 division to the A2 or B division of our tournament. To make our decisions, we utilize records available on various internet sites, the team record form submitted with your application, phone interviews with team managers and coaches, conversations with other teams in your league and outside your league, and the hockey community at large. This effort takes countless hours!

Game Schedule - The schedule in broken down by group and includes times and location of all tournament games and the Showdown Olympics. The division groupings are as follows: 1-2 (Mite), 3-5 (Squirt), 6-8 (Peewee), 9-10 (Bantams), and 11-12 (Midgets) (See Attachment A for teams).

Tournament Games - Each team entering the tournament will play a minimum of four games. Period length for mite and squirts are 12 minute, peewee and bantam are 13 minute, and midgets are 14minute stop time. All teams play at least one game on Friday, one or two games on Saturday, and one or two games on Sunday. All consolation, semi-final and final games are on Sunday. Games times will run from 12:30pm to 11pm on Friday 7am-11pm on Saturday, and 7am-7pm on Sunday. Game times at all rinks are final and will not change

Tournament Activities - The Capital Showdown has three separate events this year for all players to participate in during the course of the tournament in addition to their regularly scheduled games.

Page 4: Capital showdown tournament information package 2012

CAPITAL SHOWDOWN TOURNAMENT INFORMATION PACKAGE

The Showdown Olympic (see Attachment B) event takes place at the Centennial Sportsplex on March 9th and 11th . Teams within each division compete against one another for the gold, silver, and bronze medals. The competition is organized to allow each player on every team participate in at least one event. Each team must complete the entry form listing the players in each event to be eligible to participate. Any changes to your showdown olympic rosters up through the tournament do not need to be submitted to the tournament. Just be prepared when you take the ice to put your players at the correct skills station. Showdown Olympic instructions are also available on our website at www.eteamz.com/showdown under the link “Showdown Tournaments”.

The Pin Exchange is an opportunity for teams to trade or exchange pins (can be something other than pins, for example pucks, banners) with the teams in your division.  We encourage all teams to participate in the pin exchange.  New this year, the pin exchange will occur before or after tournament games with the teams in your respective divisions. In addition to the teams in your division we encourage you to also trade with teams outside your division. We provided a list of the participating teams along with their contact information with your schedule. We encourage you to contact those teams prior to the tournament to schedule a meeting time. We will have a list of the pin exchange participating teams along with contact information available at the rink.

The Allstar Game and Showdown Olympics is a new event this year for all midget teams. This event will provide midget teams the opportunity to have their top players combine with other midget teams to form an all-star team. Given the midget divisions have four teams this year two teams from each division will combine players to form an all-star team. This will require each team to field one goalie, three defensemen, four forwards (one team will have to provide five players), and a coach. The tournament will send a form prior to the tournament for teams to complete to submit their player nominations. All players not participating in the all-star game will be in the Showdown Olympics prior to the start of the all-star game. The showdown olympic’s will consist of the classic events, such as the Showdown, rapid fire, speed challenge, and Capital Relay.

Host Hotels - The host hotels are located in Annapolis, Greenbelt, Arundel Mills, Fort Meade and Laurel, MD. The hosts hotels included the Holiday Inn Laurel, Greenbelt Marriott, Greenbelt Courtyard, Hilton Garden Suites Silver Spring, Fort Meade Courtyard, Sheraton Washington North, Sheraton Annapolis, Hampton Inn & Suites, an Springhill Suites Marriott. All out of town teams participating in the tournament must stay at one of three sponsor hotel’s at the contracted group rate. It’s imperative that you understand that each host hotel supports the cost of the tournament. Absent their support there would be no tournament! In return for their support, all of our guests stay at the host hotels at a discounted group rate. As a result, any team not staying at a host hotel at the group rate will be immediately disqualified from

participating in any tournament games. Tournament officials will check in with each hotel everyday.

We have either provided complimentary hospitality space for the teams to gather or the hotel has adequate accommodations for teams to congregate during the day or evening. Many of you like to congregate in the hallways during the evening hours. Please understand and respect the hotel rules. We want everyone to enjoy their stay while respecting the rules of the hotel. Each hotel will provide their guest a conduct form to sign and abide by during your stay. The most important rule in the conduct form is that children have adult supervision at all times. Parents should not leave their children unattended at any time unless another adult or mature adolescent is supervising them for you. During the evening hours (past 9pm) we ask that parents congregate in their rooms or in space provided by the hotel for further conversation and fun. If you are in the hallways more than likely hotel management will ask you return to your rooms. Please respect their request! Keep in mind there are other guests unrelated to your group at the hotel. Keep noise to a minimum in the late hours and make sure you supervise your children at all times!

Trophies/Awards - Each player participating in the tournament receives a souvenir. Players will receive the souvenir during their Showdown Olympic event. If your team does not participate in the Showdown Olympics it will not directly receive a tournament souvenir. It is your teams’ responsibility to locate a tournament official at the Gardens Ice House rink to receive the tournament souvenir for your players. In addition to the souvenir, each team advancing to the championship game receives individual trophies and the championship team receives a tournament banner to hand at their home rink. Also, at our Showdown Olympics gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded for coming in first, second, and third place.

Programs/Souvenirs/Advertisements - We suggest the purchase of a program to obtain information such as the game schedule, the divisional setup, names of the participating teams, tournament rules, players from each team, local advertisers/sponsors, and more. Our souvenirs include pins (several unique styles), tournament t-shirts, hockey necklaces, mini hockey sticks, jewelry, and more. Prior to coming all of the teams had the opportunity to pre-order souvenirs at discounted prices. At the tournament the souvenirs will be at the regular price. Souvenirs will only be able at the Gardens Ice House rink. Get them while there here!

Tournament Ice Rink –We are using three rinks to facilitate the 3rd Annual Capital Showdown including Gardens Ice House in Laurel, MD, Piney Orchard in Odenton, MD, Bowie Town Center and Brigade Sports Complex in Annapolis, MD. Provided are descriptions of each rink below; however, if you would like more details or directions go to our website www.showdowntournaments.com under the link “Rink Locations” We have provided graphical and written directions to ice rinks (See Attachment C).

Garden Ice House will be utilized all day for each day of the tournament. This is the location of the Showdown Olympics and tournament headquarters. They have three

The rink is about 15 minutes from the Annapolis, 20 minutes from Laurel, and 25 from Greenbelt. The rink is located at 8781 Piney Orchard Pkwy Odenton, MD 21113. Their phone is 410-672-7013 and website https://www.frontline-connect.com/defaultpage.cfm?fac=piney&facid=1&logout=1

Bowie Town Center - we will utilized this rink for a few games on Friday and part of the Saturday and Sunday. The rink has a single sheet of ice, pro shop, and snack bar. The rink is about 15 minutes from the Annapolis and 20 minutes from the Laurel. The rink is located at 3330 Northview Drive Bowie, MD 20716. Their phone is 301-809-3090. and website is www.cityofbowie.org/LeisureActivities/IceArena/index.asp

Brigade Sports Complex - we will utilized this rink for a few games on Friday and part of Saturday and Sunday. This is the facility used by the United States Naval Academy. The rink has a single olympic size sheet of ice. There are two locker rooms (heated rooms) and four lockerrooms under the bleachers (non-heated rooms). The rink is about 5 minutes from the Annapolis hotels and 30 minutes from the Laurel hotels. The rink is located at 64 Greenbury Point Road Annapolis, MD 21482 (note some website have their address incorrect as 687 Bryant Road). Their phone and website are 410-293-2350 http://www.usna.edu/NavyHockey/NavyHockeyMainPage.htm

Referees - All referees are affiliated and trained under USA Hockey and are affiliated with Southeastern Hockey Officials Association (SHOA) at http://www.shoarefs.org/. The tournament must use SHOA referees and schedule through a local registrar (head referee). The head referee chooses from level 1, 2, 3 and 4 referees and matches them to the appropriate age groups and levels. Keep in mind that there are many more level 1 and 2 referees than 3 and 4. Many of the level 1 and 2 referees are new the game and learning. The level 1 and 2 referees typically do the mite and squirt and games, however, they are often matched with higher level referees to officiate peewee and bantams.

We recommend the coaches use the referees for official answer to questions regarding rules of play. All referee decisions are final. The tournament directors will not overrule the referee’s decision! Keep in mind that there are only two referees on the ice and over 100 spectators during a game. We ask that the coaches, players, and spectators be courteous and respectful to the referees. We support the “No Tolerance” rule regarding on-ice and off-ice conduct. Any inappropriate behavior may be subject to ejection from the game or rink. Please keep in mind

that amateur youth hockey is for recreation and the referees are not professional. Any appropriate complaints must be addressed by your coaches with a tournament director.

Local Attractions - The area has several attractions to over. Annapolis is a historic town with several unique shops and restaurants and lots of history. Baltimore and Washington D.C are only about 30 minutes from Annapolis. Many of the historic sites in Washington, DC are free. As for Baltimore, the Inner Harbor is a blast and great food can be found through the city especially in "Little Italy." There are also several malls in the area including the Annapolis Mall, Eastern Shore Outlet Mall, and the Arundel Mills Mall. For those staying in Annapolis make sure to check out First Night Annapolis, there are events all day long and they bring in the new year with fireworks.

Tournament Rules - USA Hockey rules apply (unless otherwise noted) since the Capital Showdown is sanctioned through USA Hockey (SE2011070). Participants please take the time to read the rules below before the tournament to ensure you have a clear understanding of the rules. Coaches can speak to a tournament director for specific tournament rules and to referees for the rules of play under USA Hockey. The following are specific tournament rules outside USA hockey:

All players must be on a single certified USA hockey roster to participate in the games. Any player not on the USA hockey roster can be disqualified from the tournament games. This can also cause a game forfeit if it's determined that this player influenced the outcome of the game. Managers must have a copy of the certified USA hockey roster with them at all times.

Any team not staying at a host hotel at the contracted rates except for local teams are immediately disqualified from the tournament. Teams misbehaving at the hotel or causing damage to hotel property will be disqualified from the tournament. Parents must supervise their children at the hotel to reduce noise levels and disruption to hotel guests. If a problem arises at the hotel the team contact must speak with the tournament director.

All teams are guaranteed a minimum of four games. All teams must be ready 15 minutes prior to their scheduled game time and be ready to go on the ice early if necessary. All teams will receive a four-minute running time warm-up period. Further, each team receives one, one-minute time out during each game. No time out is permitted in any overtime period unless it was not used during the regular periods.

All tournament games played for Groups 1-6 are twelve minute, Groups 7-10 are thirteen minute, and Groups 11-12 are fourteen minute stop time periods. Whenever a team leads by five or more goals in the third period, the play becomes running time. Stop time resumes any time the goal differential changes to less than five goals. Additionally, any games that are scheduled before the rinks public skating sessions or other non-tournament ice times may experience running time in the third period and if the tournament gets too far

off schedule. A tournament official will make this decision and inform scorekeeper, referees and teams.

Penalty times are in accordance with USA Hockey except for games that go to overtime (see tiebreaking rules). Any game misconduct’s called against a player/coach during the tournament will be official. The player/coach must serve the full penalty and sit out a tournament game if required. The no tolerance rule is strictly enforced. Coaches or players reprimanding the referees will not be tolerated. Any fisticuffs during the tournament can result in automatic suspension from the tournament games. Team managers will be required to show their previous game sheet to a tournament official prior to the start of their next game for any game where a player or coach received a game misconduct. This is necessary because teams play at different rink.

Only coaches can present disputes to the tournament director. All protest must in writing and turned into the tournament officials for review. Parents and players cannot participate in this process. Managers must have their certified USA Hockey roster available for review.

Players can only be registered with one team for the tournament unless they received permission from the tournament director to be on two teams. In cases of injury (e.g. goalie), a team may discuss the use of another goalie from a team within its association or from another tournament team that is of similar calibers.

The home team picks jersey color and must inform the visiting team of their choice; however, if a team only has one set of jerseys then the other team must wear an appropriate shirt color.

Each team is responsible for completing the score sheet. The first team obtains the score sheet from the tournament officials. Once completed, they will provide the other team the game sheet to complete. This team is then responsible for submitting the game sheet to the timekeeper.

All teams must clean their locker rooms to get back their license or car keys. Teams are fined by the rink and tournament for any damage done to the locker room. Fines must be paid immediately. No locker rooms are assigned to teams during the Showdown Olympics. Players can get dressed in any available locker room or other area in the rink available for dressing. Players and parents are responsible for their belongings inside or outside the locker room.

Parents from the home and visiting team can work the penalty boxes--tournament staff will not be assigned this duty. Tournament staff will keep score for all games. No one is authorized in the scorekeeping area except for tournament staff. Parents must refrain from yelling, arguing, and use of inappropriate language towards any tournament official.

Page 9: Capital showdown tournament information package 2012

Parents and coaches must maintain control during all tournament games. Remember these are just kids, your kids, playing a recreational/extracurricular activity for their enjoyment. Parents and coaches are encouraged to cheer for their teams and to support the other teams.

TiebreakersUse the following criteria to determine how a team advances into a quarter-final, semi-final or championship game for all divisions. Note Tiebreaker 2 (head to head) usually does not work when there are more than two teams tied in a division with six teams. For example, in a six team division, three of the teams are tied with game points of 4. In order to apply the head to head tiebreaker all three teams must have played each other in regular games (i.e. 1vs2, 1vs3, and 2vs3). If this applies then one of the three teams must have beating both teams (i.e. 1 beat 2, 1 beat 3, and 2 beat 3) in order to advance before the other teams. If this does not occur then the tiebreaker automatically moves to period points to determine the tie between these three teams. Once a team is placed the tiebreaking rules start again from the beginning for the remaining teams. That means if three teams are tied and one advances, the next two teams are placed by comparing game points, then head to head, then period points, etc.

Tie-Breaker Description1-Game Points For each game teams get 2 points win, 1 point tie, 0 points loss2-Head to Head If tied after game points teams are judged on head to head games (can

only use this tiebreaker if all teams have played each other)3-Period Points If tied after game points and head to head teams are judged on period

points; each period teams receive: 2 points win, 1 point tie, 0 loss4-Goals Against If tied after game points, head to head, and period points teams are

judged on least goals scored against them in the regular games5-Goals For If tied after game points, head to head, period points, and goals

against teams are judged on goals for in the regular games6-First Goal If tied after game points, head to head, period points, goals against,

and goals for teams are judged on first goal of head to head game7-Least Penalties If tied after game points, head to head, period points, goals against,

goals for teams, and first goal are judged on least penalty minutes8-Coin Toss If teams are tied at this point a coin toss is the determining factor

The following format is used during the quarter-final, semi-final, and championship games to determine a tiebreaker after three periods:

Period Players Time4 Four on Four 4 minute running time period with goalies5 Three on Three 3 minute running time period with goalies6 Two on Two 2 minute running time period with goalies7 One on One 1 minute running time period with goalies8 Three Player Shootout The team with the most goals after three shooters

wins the game.  If tied after three, one new shooter is added from each team until there is a winner.

Penalties given during the overtime periods depart from USA Hockey rules. When a penalty is assessed the non-penalty team gets to add a player.  For example 4 on 4 will go to a 5 on 4, a 3 on 3 will go to a 4 on 3, and a 2 on 2 will go to a 3 on 2.  Any penalties called during a 1 on 1 equals a penalty shot.  All penalties are one minute in duration and continue into the next overtime period if not expired.  Any penalties called during a 1 on 1 equals a penalty shot.

Division Format - Divisions are formatted as either four, six, or eight teams. All tournament rules apply the same to each division. The following identifies the group and format of the division:

Four Teams (Groups 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 ) - Four teams makeup one division.  Each team plays each other once for a total of three regular tournament games.  Based on these games the 1st and 2nd place teams advance to final game and the 3rd and 4th place teams play a consolation game.

Six Teams (Groups 6 & 7) - Six teams makeup one division. Each team plays three regular tournament games.  Six teams makeup division. Each team plays three regular tournament games.  Based on these games, 1st vs 2nd place teams advance to the championship game and 3rd -6th place teams play a consolation game.

Eight Teams (Group 1 & 3)) - Eight teams make up two divisions of four teams. Each team plays three games and then placed in first through fourth place. The top two teams from each division play each other in a semi-final game, while the other two teams from each division play a consolation game. The winners of the semi-final game advance to the championship game.

We invite all teams to participate in the Showdown Olympics. This event has been a highlight at each of the Capital Showdown Tournaments with many great memories for all the teams. It offers a unique experience for team work while having fun. The competition is organized to allow each player on every team to participate in at least one event. We stress that the Olympic events provide teams with a less serious atmosphere and are designed to be fun. The teams within each group will compete against one another for the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Olympic Medals. To participate in the Showdown Olympic events each team must complete the entry form (as provided at the end of this document) listing the players in each event and also identify whether they are participating n the Pin Trade.

The events include: The Showdown, Rapid Fire, Speed Challenge, and Capital Relay. The object is to accumulate lots of points in the Showdown, Rapid Fire, and Speed Challenge so you can reduce your official time in the Capital Relay. Please keep in mind that you cannot use the same player for the Showdown, Rapid Fire and Speed Challenge since these events occur at the same time. The three teams with the lowest overall times (after being reduced by accumulated points from the Showdown, Rapid Fire and Speed Challenge) are awarded individual gold, silver, or bronze medals. In the case of a tie, a fastest skate competition will be done. The activities are:

The Showdown Each team enters 4 players and one goalie. The object of this game is two-fold. The players receive one point for each goal scored and the goalies receive one point for each puck saved. Each player shoots twice on the goalies and each goalie faces eight shots. To begin this event one team of four player’s lines up at the top of blue line and one goalie takes the net. The first player goes one on one with the goalie. After shooting the player skates back to his team and the next player goes one on one with the goalie. This rotation is repeated until each player has shot once. After all four players have shot they move to the side boards and the next team of four lines up for the showdown. The same goalie remains in net against the next team of four players. Once each player on this team has shot against the goalie, the players move to the side boards and a new goalie takes the net. For example, there are four teams. Team 1 players shoot against team 2 goalie, after each player on team 1 shoots on team 2 goalie, team 3 steps up to shoot on Team 2 goalie. Team 2 goalie has completed this event once each player from team 3 has shot on him. The next goalie will take the net and face the next two teams, Teams 4 and 1. Every point earned in this event equals a two second deduction in your relay time.

Rapid Fire Each team enters 4 players into the competition. The object of the game is to get the most pucks in the net. Each player shoots five pucks from a stationary position attempting to get the puck through one of shooting target holes. The puck must go through one of the holes off the ice. Any puck entering the net on the ice is disallowed. Each team receives one point for every score. A maximum of 20 points

can be accumulated in this event. Every point earned in this event equals a two second deduction in your relay time.

Speed ChallengeEach team enters 4 players; 2 forwards and 2 defensive skaters, into this competition. The object of the game is to get the fastest combined time between your two players. An obstacle course will be set up for this event. The forward skater will skate forward through the obstacle course first. Once their time has been recorded the defensive player will skate backwards through the obstacle course twice. This rotation will continue until all teams have finished. Points will be awarded to the five teams with the fastest overall time. Points are as follows: 1st gets 20 points, 2nd gets 15 points, 3rd gets 10 points, 4th gets 7 points and 5th gets 3 points. Every point earned equals a one second deduction in your relay time.

Capital Relay Each team enters 9 skaters, 1 goalie, and 1 coach (must wear skates and their helmet) into this competition. The object of the game is to get through our relay course. During the relay, the skater will weave around four pylons, jump over a stick, skate full circle around one pylon, dive between pylons, and then sprint to the goal line where you pick up an object. After getting the object the skater will sprint back to the starting point and place the object in a bucket. All 11 skaters must complete the relay course. If a team messes up and misses a player we will take an average of the skaters completing the relay from that team and add the average to their official time. The relay is scored by time. The other events are used to reduced you relay time.

Each team must assign at least two coaches/parents to coordinate your team during the event. It will be their responsibility to have the players ready at the scheduled times, to send only the players on the ice who are participating in the current event and to assist the tournament staff with the teams on the ice. The first group will take the ice and do their Showdown, Rapid Fire, and Speed Challenge activities simultaneously. When these events are finished the teams will do the Capital Relay. When the relay ends the coaches and their teams stay on the ice for the final result. Tournament staff will award the gold, silver, and bronze to the appropriate teams. Immediately following the next group will take the ice to do their Capital Relay. They will precede the Capital Relay with the Showdown, Rapid Fire, and Speed Challenge. Tournament staff will award the gold, silver and bronze to the appropriate teams.

Teams need to be ready to assume the ice immediately if the group before them finishes early. All players must wear full equipment and coaches must wear skates, gloves, and helmets. Dressing space is limited. Please come dressed in your hockey gear with the exception of skates, gloves and helmet. If you are dressing in one of the locker rooms keep in mind others will use the same space. So, after dressing you will need to remove all of your belongings and store in a pile with a team representative so another team can use the locker room. This gives other groups space to get ready for their event.
