The support we received from the CVB while hosting our event in Canton/Stark County was one of the best I’ve ever received in planning any event. Their knowledge of the local venues and vendors was invaluable. They assisted us in making local connections and even helped with negotiating the prices. In addition, they were key in promoting our three state annual conference. I have no doubt of their significance in making this one of MPI’s most successful events.

The Great Lakes Cinephile Society has held their annual convention in Massillon for the past 9 years. In all the chaos of organizing speakers, programming films and all the of the myriad details involved in organizing an event for several hundred people, the one group we can always rely on is the Canton Stark County CVB. They keep our staff informed and our guests coming back every year. The Bureau’s staff is always pleasant, upbeat and helpful and quick to respond. They are a terrific organization.

Terry HooverPresidentGreat Lakes Cinephile Society

The County Commissioners and County Engineers Associations of Ohio (CCAO/CEAO) held a most successful Annual Summer Conference in Stark County. The customer service from the bureau was above and beyond the call of duty. The entire hard-working staff is to be commended for making the CCAO/CEAO feel most welcome in Stark County.

I have referred many people to the Canton/Stark County CVB when planning events. I must admit, I am a little biased about Stark County when planning events because you do not receive the same type of attention or aide in other counties or cities in Ohio. (Believe me; I’ve experienced the differences first hand.)

alliance, ohio is known as the Carnation City for giving Ohio its state flower, the scarlet carnation. This special carnation was cultivated by an Alliance doctor, Levi L. Lamborn, who was a friend of William McKinley. Lamborn gave McKinley this rare flower to wear on his lapel during his campaigns for both Governor of Ohio and then President of the United States. Since McKinley won both of these elections, he considered this flower to be a symbol of luck and always wore this flower until the day of his assassination. On that day, a young girl had admired his lovely flower and he took it off and gave it to her. He was shot later that day.

Louisville is known as Constitution Town USA because town resident Olga Weber petitioned the US Congress in the 1950’s to name September 19th as official Constitution Day.

Did you know? The Pro Football Hall of Fame calls Canton home for three very important reasons. First, the NFL, then known as the American Professional Football Association, was founded in Canton in 1920. Second, the Canton Bulldogs were a successful NFL team based in Canton during the first few years of the league. Finally, the community of Canton successfully lobbied the NFL to have the Hall built here.

Did you know?Clearview Golf Course in East Canton, Ohio is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for being the ONLY golf course in the country to be designed, built, owned and operated by an African American. This legendary course was built in 1946 by William J Powell after returning home from WWII and being denied entrance to certain courses based on the color of his skin. After completion of this beautiful course he reflected that “It is a course where the only color that mattered were the greens- my greens, my course, Clearview.”

Stark County is known as “ohio’s Golf Capital” because we have more public golf courses than any other place in Ohio… over 20 courses to choose from!
