Roles of fisheries and aquaculture

• Food security• Livelihoods• Economic

development and government revenue• Options for

adaptation•What role for

fisheries

Governments of PNG and Solomon Islands will need to allocate a greater proportion of tuna resources for food security

• Information dissemination

• Report release

• Mid-2011

• Input to regional discussions

Johann Bell
Exposure is not just to climate change - there are many drivers, and most critical of these is popn growth

Climate Resilient Crops

• Establishing the Climate Ready Crop Collection• Identifying climate resilient traits – Salt and drought tolerance– Rapid maturing post disaster crops– CO2 fertilization

• 80 species and varieties have been evaluated (yams, cassava, sweet potato)

• Field testing is commencing in 9 countries• Aim is to create regional and national gene banks to

strengthen food security

Other Activities

• Forestry and REDD– Forest inventories, REDD readiness

• Energy– in design phase

• Education– In design phase

• Integrating CC into national development and joint country strategies
