A Dive into the NumbersWith the number of licensed Working Equitation shows on the rise all acrossthe country and membership numbers at an all-time high (WE United justwelcomed our 424th member for the year... welcome back, Shariah!), it shouldcome as no surprise that competition for year-end awards is hotter than ever.

We decided to take a quick look at the number of competitors who have earnedpoints so far in the 2018 Competition Season.

Since the 2018 Competition Year began on December 1, 2017, 121 WE Unitedmember/horse pairs, living in 7 different states and competing on horsesrepresenting 27 different breeds, have earned points in licensed competitions.

We currently have one rider competing in the Children's Level: young MaddieHarding and her pony Pecos Bill, from Texas, currently lead the NationalStandings for the Children's Level with 6 competition points.

The Introductory Level, not surprisingly, has the largest number ofparticipants. So far, 51 horse/rider pairs, representing 6 different states, havecompeted in the Introductory Level during the 2018 Competition Season.

Two riders from Oregon (Heather Humelbaugh on her Paint gelding BillyForever Shines and Julie Sweeten on her mule LVF's Solar Eclipse) arecurrently tied for first place in National Standings at the Introductory Level, with30 competition points earned to date.



At the Novice A level, 34 Horse/Rider pairs, representing 5 different states, arevying for points so far this season.

Ashley Smith and her Lusitano gelding Delirio DC currently lead the Novice ANational Standings with 62 competition points, with Emily Elias and herHaflinger Gelding Nakita Ljeb in 2nd, with 45 points.



In the Novice B Level, 7 horse/rider pairs, representing 5 states, havecompeted so far this season.

Arizona member Miguel Undabarrena and Gunipre, a grade horse of Lusitanoheritage, currently top the National Standings for Novice B, with 14 competitionpoints to their credit, while Texan Kate Spell and Francesca's a Cocoa Chica,her Half-Lusitano, just one point behind them, for 2nd place in the Nation.

With 20 horse/rider pairs from 5 different states, competition is close in theIntermediate A class. Oregon resident Jill Lovelace and her Quarter Horsegelding Driftin Juniper currently hold the #1 spot in the National Standings,with 39 points, while Oregonian Julie Alonzo and her Andalusian mare CDCMemoria are close behind, with 38 points earned this season.



So far this year, 6 horse/rider pairs, from 3 different states, have earned pointsat the Intermediate B level. Californian Ellen Corob and Deynika, her DutchWarmblood/ Russian Budyonny horse lead the group with 7 competition points,with four competitors trailing by just one point to tie for the 2nd-place spot.

Texan Andrea Galbraith and her Andalusian Dylan Casimoro, Oregonresident Morgan Wagner and her Appaloosa Endo the Blind, Texan KikiPantaze and the Australian Stock Horse Sandhaven Late to the Party, andCalifornia resident Robin Bond and the Quarter Horse Xander all have earned6 competition points at the Intermediate B level this year.

To date, only one horse/rider pair (Texan Prissy Rumel and Priscilla's Flight)have earned points at the Advanced Level and one horse/rider pair(Texan Doreen Atkinson and Obadi del Dios) have earned points at theMaster's Level.

Top Ten Regional and National Standings are reported on our website andupdated after every competition for which we receive results. In addition, forthose who want so see how close they are to making it to the Top Ten /Leaderboard listing, we provide a way to check cumulative points throughoutthe year.

Louisiana got its first official taste of WE with a full-day Introduction to WorkingEquitation Clinic held at Over the Moon Farms in Covington, LA. The event,beautifully organized by Hannah Leche, brought together a variety of breeds andpeople from different disciplines. We look forward to seeing more events in the areain the future.
