Location: The University of Michigan Biological Station (on DouglasLake, near Pellston, MI)
Camp KinoMaage is a week‐long, hands‐on science summer camp formiddle school students from Michigan Native American tribes.Students who participate in this residential program explore anumber of questions about science and culture throughinvestigations at the University of Michigan Biological Station onDouglas Lake, near Pellston, MI.
During Camp KinoMaage, students learn and participate in scientificactivities, and actively engage in field experiences. Cultural ties arealso a dominant theme throughout the week as students have theopportunity to interact with Native American elders from surroundingtribes, and are also taught the Ojibwe language by staff and facultyfrom the University of Michigan Native American Studies program.
Designed to encourage and expose students to information aboutcollege preparation, academic enrichment, and career exploration,Camp KinoMaage also provides youth with the opportunity to interactwith current U‐M undergraduate and graduate students from similarbackgrounds. This educational experience is an exciting opportunityfor students to meet peers from all over the state of Michigan andprovides youth with an opportunity to gain skills and tools that willsupport their academic success.
