Oddly Enough Global NewsBoston woman pays $560,000 for2 parking spots

BOSTON (AP) Parking is such a precious commodity in Bos-

ton that one woman was willing to pay $560,000 for two off-

    street spaces near her home.

Lisa Blumenthal won the spots in the city's Back Bay neigh-

borhood during an on-site auction Thursday held in a steady

rain by the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS had seized the

spots from a man who owed back taxes.

MEXICO CITY (AP) This mayoral hopeful in Mexico promises

to eat, sleep most of the day and donate his leftover litter to fill

potholes. Morris, a black-and-white kitten with orange eyes, is

running for mayor of Xalapa in eastern Mexico with the cam-

paign slogan "Tired of Voting for Rats? Vote for a Cat." And he

is attracting tens of thousands of politician-weary, two-legged

    supporters on social media.

A Chinese farmer received a five-day jail sentence after admitting to

authorities that he made up a story about electrocuting an alien, re-

ports the Telegraph.. "I was setting an electric trap for rabbits by

the Yellow river when I saw a bright light," Li wrote, according to

the Telegraph. "Above my bike, a UFO was floating. One by one,

five aliens came down, but one of them stumbled into one of my

    rabbit traps and

    was electrocuted.

    The others went

    back into their

    ship and flew

away." "Tired of Voting for Rats? Vote for a Cat."Morris The Mexican Cat

    Last month the lunch was

    tragically cancelled at short

    notice, and many CADS instead

    found themselves unexpectedly

    a t t e n d i n g a s e r v i c e o f

thanksgiving for the life ofSue Bennion, who had passed

    away just the Sunday before.

I was privileged to be allowed to

say some words on behalf of

CADS at the service, and I have to

say it was a beautiful event,

although we were all grieving for

the loss of a dear friend.

We will be lifting a glass (or

several) to her memory on the

28th, and Peter plans to attend.

The boat will depart at 1230

sharp so please be at the hotel

    by 1215 latest.

On the weather front, the recent

sunny spell has caused a tremen-

dous boost in the garden, with all

    plants starting to bloom together.

The lack of any frost since early

    April, combined with the cold

weather until the end of May, will

bring bumper fruit and veg crops

this season. Look forward to lots

of jam and preserves making in

    autumn!

    Hello Sailors

Yes, its come around again, and the

weather is shaping up nicely! The CADS

Boat Trip is this month. Make your ticket

reservations now. Seats are filling up,

and last reservations need to be with

Allan Poot by Monday the 24th June. Let

us know ASAP whether you are comingand if you will bring a guest.

    The UK unfortunately retains its

    titles forEuropes highest teenage

pregnancy rate, worst place to be

a child, and the most politiciansand public servants arrested for

    corruption.

    However the Tory economic policies

are starting to bear fruit. More jobs

are being created than lost (and

real jobs at that), and the UK has

one of the lowest youth unemploy-

    ment rates in Europe.

If only Mr Cameron can get his ambi-tions a little higher and share the

    menu with his European colleagues,

    he will be most welcome.

Rather than the UK exiting Europe,

Europe is ready for a bit of UK

    economic leadership! And the UK

is more than ready for a bit of learn-

ing from the Dutch education and

    health care sectors.

Best economic news of the year is

that the UK is set to overtake

France soon as Europes 2nd larg-

    est carmaker. Yes really!

Not often that I say something posi-

tive about UK politicians, but well

    done David and George.
