PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO RIGHTSThe Organisers would like to bring the regulation on photography and filming to the attention of exhibitors, tradestands, press and visitors. It is a condition of all those attending the event that no filming or other form of recordingmay be taken or made at the venue without express written permission of the Organisers. The taking of photographsin the show venue for sale or reward is strictly prohibited except with the written permission of the Organisers. Pressaccredited photographers are provided with permission to take photographs ONLY for use in newspapers, magazinesand internet sites – this is for news purposes only. There is no objection to the general public taking photographs ofgeneral views of the show, provided that these are for private use. Specific dogs may be photographed only with theapproval of the exhibitor. No photography or filming is permitted in breed judging rings whilst judging is actually takingplace. However, judges may allow it to happen at the end of classes or after the Challenge Certificate is awarded.Filming and flash photography is allowed from outside the ring at all times unless the operation of the camera isactually affecting exhibits. However, if a powerful flash unit is used or it is clear that exhibits are being affected, a ringsteward or the judge is empowered to stop the person concerned.

RULES AND REGULATIONS1 The Show will open at 7.30 a.m.2 Dogs will be received at any time but it is the Exhibitor’s responsibility to ensure that exhibits are available for judging

when required.3 Judging will commence at 9.00 a.m. each day. The start of judging will not be delayed except in very exceptional

circumstances.4 (a) Exhibits may be removed from the Show after their judging has been completed.

(b) Exhibits may not be removed any earlier unless by written order of the Veterinary Surgeon, VeterinaryPractitioner or of the Show Management and then only in very exceptional and unforeseen circumstances whichmust be reported to the Kennel Club.

(c) The Show will close half an hour after all judging has been completed by which time dogs must be removed.5 ENTRY FEES:

6 PRIZE MONEY. The amount of prize money on offer at this show is £3,293 in Stakes Classes only.7 The committee reserves to itself the right to refuse entries.8 Puppies under six calendar months of age on the first day of the show are not eligible for exhibition, ie born on or after

14th March 2018. In cases where entries are made for dogs which are not eligible for competition, before the entry feeis refunded, AN ADMINISTRATION CHARGE OF £5 WILL BE DEDUCTED.

9 The mating of bitches within the precincts of the Show is forbidden.10 Best Puppy in Show

Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which has competed andhas been declared Best Puppy in Breed, Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified Puppy or Best Any VarietyImported Breed Register Puppy. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on thefirst day of the Show. Where the Best of Breed, Best in Group or Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically beawarded Best Puppy in Breed, Best in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Similarly, if the Reserve Bestof Breed, Reserve Best of Group or Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dogit should also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively.Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed, Best in Group and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selectionof Best of Breed and Best in Show respectively.(a) Shows Judged on the Group System

(1) Best of BreedWhere a breed is separately classified a Best of Breed may be declared but only from those dogs whichhave received a first prize in a breed class at the show. Where separate classes are provided for each sexof a breed a Best of each Sex must be declared.NOTE:The Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified/ Best Any Variety Imported BreedRegister award relevant to a Category 3 Breed will not be confirmed until the dog has passed anexamination by the General and Group Championship Show Veterinary Surgeon.

(2) Best of GroupBest of Group and subsequent Group placings must be selected from:-(a) The Best of Breed winners in each group(b) The dog declared Best from Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each Group or on

each day.(c) The dog declared Best from Any Variety Imported Breed Register class or classes in each Group or

on each day.NOTE: The dog declared Best of Breed/Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified/ Best Any VarietyImported Breed Register from a breed designated by the Kennel Club as a Category 3 Breed is not eligibleto compete in the Group competition unless it has passed an examination by the Show’s VeterinarySurgeon. If the dog fails to pass the examination it is ineligible to compete in the relevant Group.

(3) Best in ShowBest in Show must be selected from the Best of Group winners. Reserve Best in Show must be selectedfrom the remaining Group winners following the selection of Best in Show.

(b) Shows Not Judged on the Group SystemBest in ShowBest in Show and subsequent placings must be selected from:(a) Those dogs declared Best of Breed.(b) The dog declared Best from Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each Group or on each day.(c) The dog declared Best from Any Variety Imported Breeds Register class or classes in each Group or on

each day.12 Exhibits will not be admitted to Group or Best in Show competition after a period of ten minutes has elapsed since

the announcement that exhibits are required for judging, unless they have been unavoidably delayed by previousjudging not being completed on time, and then only with the special permission of the Show Management.

13 Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them nor handle a dog in a manner whichcauses its feet not to touch the ground when on the move. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that suchpractice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under KennelClub Show Regulation F11.

14 All exhibitors must be familiar with Kennel Club Regulation F (Annex B): Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs forExhibition.

15 All dogs resident outside the UK must be issued with a Kennel Club Authority to Compete number before entry to theshow can be made. All overseas entries without an Authority to Compete number will be returned to theexhibitor/competitor.

16 Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days: Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take allreasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at riskby any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of the Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referredto the Board for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations.• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday

route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available

to drink.• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.• Keep the dog in the shade — take your own shade, for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water

available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time.Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to direresults. Please look after your dog’s welfare.

Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulations to refuse any entry.

17 Not For Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry formand must be Kennel Club registered.

18 No modifications will be made to this Schedule except by permission of the Board of the Kennel Club, which will befollowed by advertisement in the Canine Press wherever possible.

21 BEST VETERAN IN SHOW is a Veteran which has competed and is unbeaten by any other Veteran exhibited at thesame show.• Best Veteran in Breed will be selected from all unbeaten veterans from any breed classes provided they are not

beaten by any other veteran.• Best Veteran In Group will be selected from all Best Veteran in Breed provided they are unbeaten by any other veteran.• Best Veteran In Show will be selected from Best Veteran in Group Winners provided they are unbeaten by any

other veteran.Proviso For the purpose of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Braceand Team or a Special Award confined to one breed will not be considered to be a beaten dog.NB: Veterans entered in the Bannerdown Benching/AV Veteran Stakes ONLY are not eligible to compete for BestVeteran in show. To be eligible to compete for Best Veteran in Show, a veteran must be entered and exhibited in a breedclass and win Best Veteran in Breed and Best Veteran in Group.

22 Every exhibitor making an entry or entries at or for this Show shall be deemed to have agreed to abide by the KennelClub Limited Rules and Show Regulations and by these regulations, and it is on this understanding only that entriesare accepted.

23 EXHIBITORS PASSES. Exhibitor’s passes for postal entries will be posted out by the printer. All enquiries must bemade direct to Higham Press. Passes for online entries will be available to download from your dog.biz account.Each exhibitor will receive a pass for each dog entered which must be presented at the gate on entering the showwith your dog. Admission to the show is free. A pre paid Exhibitors Car Park pass is £4 payable only withentries, and £5 on the day. Spectator’s cars £10 on the day.EXHIBITS ONLY ALLOWED. No animal other than dogs duly entered for the Show will be allowed within theprecincts of the Show during its continuance. There is NO PROVISION FOR UNENTERED DOGS other than NOTFOR COMPETITION and SPECTATOR dogs. To enter NOT FOR COMPETITION complete an entry form with thefull details and send to the printer with a fee of £10. To enter SPECTATOR dogs an entry form/record slip must becompleted at the entrance to the show (no bench provided), cost £5 per dog. Dogs must be present on their benchesat all times except when being judged or when being prepared for exhibition and/or being exercised. In certaincircumstances dogs must be present on their benches at all times if required by the Show Management. This rulewill be relaxed from 3.00pm onwards to enable exhibitors to bring their dogs closer to the Group ring. Dogsat this time may be housed on any spare benching at the end of Pavilion C. Preparation of exhibits should take placein the special grooming areas provided. Any unauthorised person found untying or removing a dog from its benchduring the hours the exhibition is open, without the consent of the Committee or Manager will be reported as a civiloffence and will be dealt with by the Police.

24 ADMISSION TO THE SHOW. The Show will be open to the Public from 7.30 a.m. each day and admission to theshow ground is free. Car parking is available at a cost to exhibitors of £4.00 prepaid, £5.00 on the day. Spectator’scars are charged at £10 per car.

25 GANGWAYS. Gangways must be kept clear at all times and any dog boxes, cages or other obstruction left ingangways will be removed by authorised officials.

26 SAFETY OFFICER. A Safety Officer will be in attendance throughout the show. Exhibitors and spectators arereminded that just as Darlington Dog Show Society Ltd. has a responsibility to ensure the health and safety of allthose attending their event, all those present have a duty and responsibility for their own safety. They are thereforeexpected to take the greatest care to avoid guy ropes, uneven surfaces and other hazards which are inevitable andintegral elements of a dog show. Those bringing and using portable items of equipment such as folding chairs,trolleys, cages and grooming tables also have a responsibility to ensure that their tools, equipment and collapsiblefurniture are used and erected safely and does not constitute a hazard to others. Exhibitors are also reminded thatthey should wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the prevailing conditions on the site. Exhibitors show at theirown risk if conditions are not ideal.

27 SAFETY OF DOGS. The Committee will be most anxious for the care and safety of the dogs brought for exhibition,or any other property entrusted to them, but it must be understood by exhibitors and all other persons that theCommittee will not be responsible for the loss, detention of, or damage to any dogs or other property whether arisingfrom accident or from any other cause whatever, or from any act or omission of itself, its officers, agents, servants orothers, or damage done by the exhibits to any person or property.VICIOUS DOGS are not eligible for competition and must not be entered for the Show. Exhibitors are responsiblefor any damage done or caused by their dogs during the exhibition.

28 JUDGING OF CLASSES AND BEST IN SHOW. All reasonable steps will be taken to warn exhibitors of the judgingof Variety Classes, Groups and Best in Show, but the Committee cannot be held responsible for absentees from thecompetitions. The Committee reserve the right to make any alterations or additions due to unforeseencircumstances which will be published in the DOG PRESS if time permits. It remains the exhibitors responsibility to

be present in the ring when required. NB: German Spitz (Mittel and Klein) and Poodles (Miniature and Toy) will bemeasured and Dachshunds (Miniature) will be weighed at this show

29 CANCELLATION OR ABANDONMENT: Entry fees will not be refunded in any circumstance where any act of Godor any other unforeseen reason causes the cancellation or abandonment of the show after entries have closed.

THE ATTENTION OF ALL EXHIBITORS IS DRAWN TO THE KENNEL CLUB REGULATION RE: FOULING,WHICH READS:Any owner, handler or other person in charge of a dog is required to remove as soon as possible any fouling causedby their dog(s) at any Kennel Club Licensed Show within the licensed venue and within the environs of that eventincluding car and caravan parks and approaches.

REGULATIONS FOR THE PREPARATION OF DOGS FOR EXHIBITION F (B)1 These Regulations must be observed when a dog is prepared for exhibition and/or exhibited at any Kennel Club

Licensed event. Objections may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under these ShowRegulations and/or for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rule A42.(a) A dog found to have been exhibited in breach of these Regulations will automatically be disqualified from

exhibition at the show and from any award gained thereat.(b) Unless the exhibitor provides a satisfactory explanation for the dog being exhibited in breach of these

Regulations then he/she may be subject to further penalties of either a fine or as listed under Rule A42.2 (a) No substance which alters the natural colour, texture or body of the coat may be present in the dog’s coat for

any purpose at any time during the Show. No substance which alters the natural colour of any external partof the dog may be present on the dog for any purpose at any time during the Show.

(b) Any other substance (other than water) which may be used in the preparation of a dog for exhibition must notbe allowed to remain in the coat or on any other part of the dog at the time of exhibition.

3 No act or operation which alters the natural conformation of a dog or any part thereof may be performed except:(a) Operations certified to the satisfaction of the General Committee.(b) The removal of dewclaws of any breed.(c) The shortening of tails of customarily docked breeds but only up to an acceptable age limit, which shall be

prescribed from time to time.(d) Operations to prevent breeding, provided that such operations are notified to the Kennel Club before

neutered dogs are shown.Nor must anything be done calculated to in the opinion of the General Committee to deceive.

4 The General Committee without previous notice may order an examination of any dog or dogs at any Show. Anyexamination thus ordered will be made by a person having executive authority who shall have a written directivefrom the Kennel Club in their possession. Samples may be taken for further examination and analysis.

5 An individual has the right to lodge an objection to a dog only if he/she is the owner or handler of a dogcompeting in the same breed or class. An objection may, however, be lodged by an official of the Show or byanyone so deputed by the Kennel Club. It will be the responsibility of the individual who lodges the objection orthe official (as appropriate), to substantiate the grounds for the objection. The Kennel Club will substantiate thegrounds for an objection made on its behalf.

6 Any objection by an individual related to an infringement of these Regulations must be made in writing to theShow Secretary at his/her office before the close of the Show and the individual must produce evidence ofidentity at the time of lodging the complaint.The attention of exhibitors is drawn to the fact that any advertisement for a coat preparation or shampoo orsimilar in either Schedule or Catalogue does not imply that the use of such preparation may not contraveneKennel Club Regulations for the Preparation of Dogs for Exhibition F. This also applies to any coat preparation orshampoo or similar on sale at the Show. The attention of exhibitors is directed to the Declaration they arerequired to sign on the entry form.REGULATION F(1) 30 GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION(a) A dog may be disqualified by the General Committee from any award, whether an objection has been lodged

or not, if proved amongst other things to have been: (7) Exhibited in breach of Regulation F (B)

DEFINITIONS OF CLASSES(The word ‘dog’ includes both sexes)

PUPPIES UNDER SIX CALENDAR MONTHS OF AGE ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE SHOW ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR EXHIBITION

In the following definitions, a Challenge Certificate includes any Show award that counts towards the title ofChampion under the Rules of any governing body recognised by the Kennel Club.

Wins at Championship Shows in breed classes where Challenge Certificates are not on offer shall be counted aswins at Open Shows.

In the case of a dog owned in partnership and entered in Members’ classes or competing for Members’ Specialseach partner must at the time of entry be a member of the Society.

In estimating the number of awards won, all wins up to and including the seventh day before the date of closing ofpostal entries shall be counted when entering for any class i.e. 17 July 2018.

Wins in Variety classes do not count for entry in Breed classes but when entering in Variety classes, wins in bothBreed and Variety classes must be counted. A first prize does not include a Special Prize of whatever value.

If an exhibitor reports before the judging of a class or classes that a dog has been entered which is ineligible, theexhibitor may choose one of the following options:-

(1) WITHDRAWALThe dog may be withdrawn from competition subject to the conditions of Regulation 20.

(2) TRANSFER(a) If a dog is ineligible for a class or classes as regards its breed, colour, sex, weight or height the Show

Secretary shall transfer it to the equivalent class or classes for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight orheight or, in the event of there being no equivalent class, Minor Puppy and Puppy excepted, to the Openclass for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height.

(b) For an exhibit entered incorrectly in a Minor Puppy class, Puppy class or Junior Class, which is over agebut under twelve calendar months of age, eighteen calendar months of age or 24 calendar months of agerespectively, the Show Secretary shall transfer the exhibit to the Puppy class, Junior class or YearlingClass respectively for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height and in the event of there being noPuppy, Junior or Yearling Class to the Open class for the correct breed, colour, sex, weight or height.

(c) For any reason other than the above, the Show Secretary shall transfer it to the Open class for the correctbreed, colour, sex, weight or height.

(d) If an exhibit arrives late and misses a class, even if it is the only class in which the dog is entered, the dogmay not be transferred to any other class.

MINOR PUPPY—For dogs of six and not exceeding nine calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. (i.e. bornbetween 14th December 2017 and 14th March 2018 inclusive).

PUPPY—For dogs of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. (i.e. born between14th September 2017 and 14th March 2018 inclusive).

September 2011). Best Veteran in show will be judged from the Veteran Group winners. The winning dog from theBannerdown Benching Veteran Stakes class which has only been entered in the AV Veteran Stakes is not eligible tocompete for Best Veteran in Show.

CHAMPION—For dogs which have been confirmed a Champion, Show Champion or Field Trial Champion. Championclasses may not be scheduled for individual breeds or varieties of breeds.

BRACE—For two exhibits (either sex or mixed) of one breed belonging to the same exhibitor, each exhibit having beenentered in some class other than Brace or Team.

IMPORTED BREED REGISTER—For breeds confined to the Imported Breeds Register and only when an Interim BreedStandard has been published by the Kennel Club. Such breeds may be exhibited in this class only, with the winningdog being eligible for Best in Group / Best Puppy in Group or Best in Show / Best Puppy in Show as relevant.

NOT FOR COMPETITION—Societies may at their discretion, accept Not For Competition entries. Societies may acceptsuch entries from breeds of dog not included within the title of the Society and at Shows held over more than one day,such entries may be accepted on any day from any breed. (Full details of the dog to be given on the entry form, enteredin the correct class for the day and marked N.F.C.)

SPECIAL BEGINNERS—For owner, handler or exhibit not having won a Challenge BEGINNERSCertificate or ReserveChallenge Certificate, or for those breeds not allocated Championship Status, Best of Sex or Reserve Best of Sexat a Championship Show.

YKC STAKES—Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligible for entry intoa YKC qualifying stakes class. Dogs must be on the Kennel Club Breed Register to compete in a YKC stakescompetition. The first placed member only in each dog group at the qualifying show will qualify for Crufts. A rosettewill be awarded. If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down to the next placing. All pedigree dogsare eligible to take part provided the dog is registered on the Kennel Club Breed Register. The dog must be registereda) solely or jointly in the member’s name or b) in the name of a close member of the family (i.e. a group of peoplerelated by blood or by marriage) and under these circumstances the dog must be resident at the YKC member’saddress. No substitute handlers are permitted — the dog must be handled by the registered YKC member. Membersare not permitted to allow another individual to show their dog at the qualifier on their behalf if they are not able toattend the class, unless agreed by the YKC Office prior to the show. Members must be aged 6 - 24 years (members6 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). Please note that membership of the YKC terminates on a member’s25th birthday. Therefore if a member is aged 25 years or over by the first day of Crufts they will be unable to competein any YKC class. Please keep this in mind when entering qualifiers throughout the competing year. In order to enterany YKC competition you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Cruftsqualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited Therefore it isimportant to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish to participate in YKC competitions.

YKC HANDLING CLASSES—Only dogs of six (6) calendar months of age and over on the day of competition are eligiblefor entry into a YKC qualifying class. Qualification is on a points basis as follows: 1st place = 30 points; 2nd place =20 points; 3rd place = 10 points. Members will receive points per group (i.e. if they handle a Bloodhound, they will getpoints towards the Hound group). If a member gains 30 points in any one group, they will qualify to enter a dog fromthat group at Crufts 2019. If a member gains 30 or more points in multiple groups, they may only compete with onedog at Crufts, but they will have the option to choose from any of the groups they have 30 or more points in. The classes are divided into three age groups: 6-11 years (6 yearsand up to, but not including 12th birthday). 12-17 years (12 years and up to, but not including 18th birthday). 18-24years (18 years and up to, but not including 25th birthday). In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fullypaid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifi er and you have not previously paidyour membership fee then any award will be forfeited. Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKCmembership as current if you wish to participate in YKC competitions.
