• The Empire had tons of gold and silver • It had a large army which allowed it to fight off

invaders. • The Capital of the Empire was Constantinople.

This city became a center for trade and learning.

Emperor Justinian

• One of the most notable leaders of the Byzantine Empire is Emperor Justinian.

• When he was in power he established the Justinian Law, which was basically all Roman laws put into one document. This document became the basis of the modern legal codes of Europe.
