Network

What is a network?• A network consists of two

or more computers that are linked in order to share resources (such as printers and CDs), exchange files, or allow electronic communications. The computers on a network may be linked through cables, telephone lines, radio waves, satellites, or infrared light beams.

Types of network

• The two basic types of networks include: • Local Area

Network (LAN) • Wide Area

Network (WAN)

Local Area Network (LAN)• A Local Area Network

(LAN) is a network that is confined to a relatively small area. It is generally limited to a geographic area such as a writing lab, school, or building. Rarely are LAN computers more than a mile apart.

Wide Area Network

• Wide Area Networks (WANs) connect larger geographic areas, such as Florida, the United States, or the world. Dedicated transoceanic cabling or satellite uplinks may be used to connect this type of network.

Advantages of the computer network

• File Sharing• Resource Sharing • Increased Storage Capacity • Increased Cost Efficiency

File Sharing• Inside this category the most

important thing is that the information can be whit the date and accurate, also it help you safe time , that is wasted in copying a file from one system to another.

Resource Sharing

• This is also an important benefit of a computer network , that if you have in the same place a lot of computers you should need a lot of modems, sow this avoids the problem.

Increased Storage

• As there is more than one computer on a network which can easily share files, the issue of storage capacity gets resolved to a great extent. A standalone computer might fall short of storage memory, but when many computers are on a network, memory of different computers can be used in such case. One can also design a storage server on the network in order to have a huge storage capacity.

Increased cost efficiency

• There are many software's available in the market which are costly and take time for installation. Computer networks resolve this issue as the software can be stored or installed on a system or a server and can be used by the different workstations.
