Big Question of the Week
“What’s the best thing about getting older?”
Explore, Believe, Shine
‘The Adventure Awaits…’
Congratulations
Our Year 6 pupils have had an exciting week this week—I know they have thoroughly enjoyed it! Grammar,
Punctuation and Spelling on Monday, Reading on Tuesday, two Maths Papers on Wednesday and another
Maths papers on Thursday what a treat!
I would like to congratulate all of them on their approach to what can be a daunting week. They have shown
real determination and resilience as well as great support for each other and I know they have all done their
very best. They have definitely earned their week of adventure next week!
Walk to School Week
I am sorry to say that I misinformed you in last week’s newsletter and ‘Walk to School Week’ is actually
next week! I know Tia and Cody have set the standard already by walking a long way to school and back for
most of this week so it would be great to see everyone
else doing the same. There will be stickers and other
rewards for anyone who does make the effort but the
best reward will be knowing that you are doing something
good for your health, good for the environment and
something which may help to control the traffic and make
us all safer. Suffolk County Council are running their own
‘Move Suffolk Week’ to coincide with ‘Walk to School
Week’ - why not take a look at their website to see if
there are things you could do as a family to improve
everyone’s health and well-being—

The Maypole
Thank you to Claire Brammer for teaching our Year 4 & Year 5 how to maypole dance. The children
thoroughly enjoyed dancing on Saturday at the Bures Market and put on a lovely display.
Netball Club
Please note that there will
be NO netball club on
Monday 20th May as Mrs
Bennie is away with our Y6
class on their
residential trip.
Gymnastics Club—Watching Week
To all parents whose children attend the gymnastics
club. Please not that on
Tuesday the 21st May you are
invited to come and watch
what the children have been
learning over the last term.
A Welcome Addition to our Teaching Team
We are pleased to say that Mrs Raynor (Mrs Bacon’s mum!) has agreed to teach our Year 2 class on
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays next half term. Mrs Raynor already knows most of the children and
will use her many years of teaching experience to support the children through their last half term in Key
Stage Two. Mrs Handley will continue to teach the children on a Monday and Friday with support from me and
other staff members. Mrs Raynor has been volunteering in our Y1 Class since September so is actually
already a valued member of our team. We know the children will enjoy working with her.
The Carnival
At the Bures Market on Saturday the Carnival Prince and Princess were announced.
Congratulations to Hope (Emerald City Class) who will be the Carnival Princess. In addition the art
competition for Bures Carnival programme was judged and the winner was Elsie (Wonderland Class),
with the runner up being Caitlin (Hogwarts Class). Well done to you all!
Collective Worship Our Collective worship week began on Tuesday this week with the ‘Open the Book’ team telling the story of
‘Jonah the Groaner’. The end bit of the story is not as well known as the exciting whale bit—Jonah moans
about the people of Nineveh not being punished and God teaches him a lesson about being grateful and caring
by destroying the tree he is using for shade. On Wednesday, Mrs Bennie explored the next line in the Lord’s
Prayer—’Hallowed Be Thy Name’. She talked about how ‘hallowed’ means honoured and respected. The children
were asked to think about ways in which we honour and respect different people.
Our Learning Ambassadors for this week are:
Josh, Freya, Florence, Charlie, Scarlet, Maya, Woody and
Neave
Staff Ambassadors— Miss Main and Ms Holtom
Well Done to all of them!
Attendance—Whole School so far this academic year 96.6%
Gold = 98 -100% Green = 95 – 97.9% Red = 90 – 94.9% Purple = <90%
A super week. Well done Year 6! SATs are done! Hooray!

Y3 Trip to the Post Office
This week Y3 sent letters to the newest member of the Royal family
Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Robert the postmaster showed
the children how he weighs the letter and checks the size of it before
working out how much it will
cost to send. Y3 are able
to track their parcel and
see when it is delivered.
They are hoping for a reply!
Lego Tokens
Thank you to everybody who has collected the
East Anglian Daily Times Lego tokens.
The deadline for collecting the tokens is Friday
24th May. Please can all tokens be handed in to
the office by Friday next week .

we kindly request that they bring in one of the following items please:
a can of soft drink (cola, lemonade, fizzy fruit drink etc.)
a small bottle of soft drink (water, cola, fruit juice drink etc.)

Music Festival later this year.
Bures Carnival - Saturday 15th June
We are pleased to be getting involved with Bures Carnival in a number of ways. Firstly, we would
like to invite as many children as possible to join us in the Carnival Parade, starting from Bures
Common around midday and walking through the village to the Recreation Ground. We will then be
running a fundraising stall at the Recreation Ground during the afternoon. Finally, we will be hold-
ing an 80s Disco in the Community Centre in the evening. Please do join us for as many of these
activities as you can. As it's going to be such as busy day for our team, we would really welcome as
much help from parents as possible. If you are able to spare an hour to help with any part of the
day, please email [email protected], speak to Helen Foster or leave a message for us in
the school office.
