PASTORAL PRAYER
INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE (All are welcome to receive Holy Communion. You do not need to be a member of this church or
our denomination to receive Holy Communion. Christ is the host at this table and invites all to
come. Please come forward as the ushers direct. If you need communion brought to you, please
inform an usher – we will be happy to bring it to you. Gluten-free wafers are available.)
PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison)
Our God, we humbly come before you confessing that we are builders of walls more
often than we are openers of gates between one another.
We hide behind the doors of our pride, our jealousy, our ambition, our insecurity. We
close ourselves from you and from those around us.
Forgive us, O God, for building walls — the walls of injustice, the walls of racism, the
walls of prejudice. Teach us to open gates to those around us — gates between family
members, gates between generations, gates between races, gates between religious
denominations.
Bless us, O God, that we may find, in opening gates to others, we open the gate to
your love. In the name of your son, Jesus, we ask these things. Amen.
