Dear Parents/Carers
READING COMPREHENSION
Our picture this week is entitled, “NEMESIS”. Credit: Illustration © Paul Kidby, www.paulkidby.com
What kind of creature is this? What is its
species?
Research griffins and hippogriffs. Could it
be either of these?
What do you think this creature eats?
Where does it live? What is its
personality/temperament like? Do they live
alone or in groups?
Write an entry for ‘Fantastic Beasts and
Where To Find Them’ about this creature.
What does ‘nemesis’ mean? Have you
heard that word before? What does it
make you think of?
Is this creature someone’s nemesis? Whose?
GOOD NEWS – WHALE CLASS
You will all be pleased to know that Miss Bucknell has been given a positive prognosis from her consultant
today; we all look forward to welcoming her back on a phased return for the last few weeks of this academic
year. We know that Whale Class will do all they can to help Miss Bucknell settle back in.
Y5/6 PRODUCTION
Next week, we are very excited to share with you the production that our Y5/6
children have been working on: Pirates of the Curry Bean. Children in the rest of the
school will have the opportunity to watch the performance on Monday afternoon.
Parents are then invited to attend on either Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday evening.
This is on a ticket basis due to H&S requirements for use of our school hall. If any
parents/carers find that they DO NOT need any of their tickets, please could these be
returned to school as we often have a waiting list should any spare tickets become
available. We would appreciate it if these were not just given directly to friends as we
obviously have others who would like to bring close relatives. For our evening
performances, we also ask that parents DO NOT bring children who are under
secondary school age – the afternoon performance is available for anyone with babies
and toddlers and siblings in the school will have already watched the performance on
Monday.
FULFILLING OUR LEGAL OBLIGATIONS
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is here and for those of us working in the children’s sector
we must comply with the legality the revised regulation brings.
As per the guidance we recently sought consent to create and share photos and videos, parents and guardians
have recorded their consent and we must use this to ascertain whether future school productions can be
filmed, or whether photographs can be taken during the performance.
As we have a number of pupils in the forthcoming production who have not given consent to be filmed or
photographed, we must inform all parents that NO IMAGES OF ANY KIND CAN BE TAKEN
DURING ANY PERFORMANCE.
Thank you for your understanding and compliance in this matter.
DINNER MONEY
As we near the end of this academic year, we would be grateful if you could ensure any outstanding balances
for pupil meals are settled. Many thanks.
HUMMINGBIRD CLASS ASSEMBLY
Hummingbird Class assembly on Thursday 5th July at 9.10am. All parents/carers and family members are
welcome to join us!
YR 5 SWIMMING
This week the Year 5s completed their 10 week swimming course. A big thank you to Mrs McNutt, for all her
help teaching the beginner's group. Congratulations to all the children, who received their swimming
certificates in assembly today. They all did very well, but particularly Lucy A, Ben G, Natalia G, Oliver B, Eesha
P and Megan W, who were chosen as the most improved in their groups.
SUMMER FUN NIGHT – FRIDAY 6th JULY 6pm – 8.30pm
There is one week to go until our Summer Fun Night! Next Friday, children will be able to come dressed in
mufti in exchange for bottle. We are also collecting jars filled with sweets and small objects. Please see the
donations leaflet attached for more ideas.
TRANSITION DAY
On Thursday 5th July, our Year Sixes will be stretching their wings and visiting their new secondary schools for
the day! At Potley, we also use the opportunity to allow children to meet their new teachers so the morning
will be dedicated to this aim! Children in Years 3 – 6 will be meeting their ‘morning’ teachers on this occasion
and then in the 2nd transition afternoon, they will meet their ‘registration/afternoon’ teachers.
Parents will be notified on their child’s class on Thursday 5th July. Please do not quiz teachers in the meantime
as they do not have permission to release this information. Parents of children on the SEN
register have been told a little earlier so that transition arrangements can be instigated at an
earlier time.
YEAR 3 TRIP TO THE ANVIL
Our Year 3s will once again be in fine voice! After their recent ‘Song Fest’ at Hawley, we are
taking them to the Anvil in Basingstoke as part of our music curriculum on the afternoon of
Tuesday 3rd July. This will be to take part in the ‘Primary Prom’. We are hoping to have them
safely back to school by the end of the day but parents please be aware that they may be a few
minutes late, depending on traffic.
YR 1\2 SEASIDE DAY
The children in years 1&2 will be holding their seaside day on Tuesday 10th July, as part of the day the teachers
have agreed for ‘Tony Fresko’ to come on site and enjoy an ice cream. We have agreed a set price for ice
creams for the year 1/2 children of £1.50. The deadline for the money is Friday 6th July. Unfortunately if
NO PAYMENT is made the children will not receive an ice cream. The children should wear appropriate
beach wear for this day, t-shirt, shorts, sun hat, sandals, sun cream (NO FLIP FLOPS). Thank you.
ICE CREAMS
As Tony Fresko is onsite for the Year 1\2 Seaside Day, it has been agreed that they will remain here until the
end of the day, so that all other children with their parents’ permission have the opportunity to purchase an
Ice Cream/Ice Lolly AFTER SCHOOL.
INFORMATION MEETINGS FOR PARENTS
We have distinct year teams within the school: YR, Y1/2, Y3/4 and Y5/6. As children transition to a new year
group, there are always things for parents to learn about how that team organise the children’s learning and
homework. It is also a good opportunity to meet unfamiliar staff. Parents who are ‘new’ to the year group
usually benefit most from these information sessions; however, all parents are welcome to attend. In
particular, our Y3/4 class structure is organised differently this year so it may help ALL parents to get their
heads around these new arrangements. The meetings will take place in the hall and children are welcome to
remain in school in the ICT suite while it is going on (subject to good behaviour!). The dates are as follows:
Y1/2 – Wednesday 18th July at 3.30pm
Y3/4 – Tuesday 17th July at 3.30pm
Y5/6 – Monday 16th July at 3.30pm.

Reminders…….
THE HART LOTTERY
The Hart Lottery is an exciting weekly lottery that raises money for good causes in Hart and you can now
support our school through it. The PTA has joined this lottery as a replacement for our previous ‘100 Club’. Tickets are just £1 per week and each ticket has a 1:50 chance to win a prize, with the top prize being
£25,000! 60p goes towards good causes in Hart and you can choose Potley Hill PTA to receive 50p of that. Simply go to www.hartlottery.co.uk to register, start playing and support the school at the same time. Good luck!
EASY FUNDRAISING
As some of you may recall, the school is registered with ‘Easy Fundraising’. This is a site which allows you to
set up a log in and to download a quick link on your internet browser page. Then, every time you shop online
and use this link, a donation is made to the school. There is a wide range of sites including Amazon, Travel
sites and even energy providers and mobile providers. We currently have 44 parents registered with the site
and have so far raised £590.81. Every penny counts and helps our fantastic PTA to raise money for additional
resources for all children in the school. We will shortly be having new playground markings re-
painted at a cost of £6500 – the majority of this cost has been donated by our PTA. Our link is:
