Fall 2014 Bible Study Program
Ascension encourages everyone to join us for the
Introduction to the Old Testament with Fr. Michael
Gunian, OFM. Fr. Michael is offering an exciting
opportunity to our parish community by teaching a
six-session course throughout the fall. This course
is for anyone who would like to deepen their
understanding of their Old Testament and explore
some of its key themes. No previous Bible Study
experience is necessary. All classes will be held in
the hall @ 7:00PM on the following Tuesday
evenings: September 23, October 7, October 21, November 4, November
18 and December 2. Contact Janelle at 858-279-2735 EXT. 108 or at
[email protected] to register. Please read below for Fr. Michael’s
biography.
Michael Guinan, OFM, a Franciscan priest, received his Ph.D. (Semitic
Languages & Literatures) from the Catholic University of America in 1972.
After teaching more than 40 years at the Franciscan School of Theology
(FST) in Berkeley, CA, he is now Professor Emeritus of Old Testament,
Semitic Languages [Hebrew and Aramaic], and Biblical Spirituality.
When FST moved to its new campus at Old Mission San Luis Rey,
Oceanside, CA, he moved down with the school. Though retired, he still
teaches occasional courses for FST, for the Old Mission San Luis Rey Retreat
Center, and for the San Diego Diocesan Institute. In addition to FST, he has
taught at St. Bonaventure University, NY; St. Patrick’s Seminary, Menlo Park,
CA; and Our Lady of the Angels Franciscan Seminary in Manila,

mom's group at Ascension! mom's group at Ascension! mom's group at Ascension! mom's group at Ascension! The Mom’s Group of
Ascension welcomes mothers of all ages and stages in life
to a time of laughter, faith sharing and reflection. These
gatherings give women the chance to socialize, pray, sing,
study Scripture, share our spiritual journeys and support
one another in the stresses of our daily lives. Inspirational
life experiences — ranging from family stories to personal
struggles — are openly shared by dynamic volunteer
speakers.
The Mom’s Group is not a club. You do not need to sign-
up or pay dues. Just show up and even bring a friend. The
reward is quality conversation, quiet moments, a warm
environment, and a time to pray and worship with other
women who have similar experiences.
