February 2011 Unity Christ Church Building Prosperity Consciousness Winter-to-Spring Forty Day Prosperity Prayer Program Here at Unity Christ Church, we have noticed that most prayer requests have been shifting from healing to prosperity. It is our sincere desire to provide true spiritual nourishment to your most pressing concerns. So, this article and its program are dedicated to raising the personal consciousness of friends and members of Unity Christ Church, our country, and our world. First, this is about your needs. You may recall the ancient Chinese proverb, “Give a person a fish; that one eats for a day. Teach one to fish, and he/she eats for a lifetime”. We are about know- ing Truth principles and standing on them regardless of circumstances, no matter what the situation may report to our sensory awareness. (This program is being repeated from 2 years ago by request-one.) Any life challenge is an opportunity for one to make the demonstration of good always available to each and all 7 billion of us on earth. Scripture speaks to this moment’s needs: “…and thus put me to the test [prove me, now -KJV], says the Lord of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing.” (Mal 3:10 NRSV) So be encouraged – always knowing that God loves you and desires only good for you. Prove God by affirming this good…not to make something true, but to awaken us to the reali- zation that it is already true. Emmet Fox, notable spiritual leader and writer, presented the importance of consciousness in a booklet titled “The Mental Equivalent.” He stated, “The aim of the metaphysical movement is to teach the presence of God… by seeing God everywhere, in all things and in all people, despite appearances to the contrary…Jesus..taught us,… judge with right judgment…this is a mental world…for anything that you want in your life [health, voca- tion, friends, opportunities, etc.]…you must furnish a mental equivalent, and the thing must come to you. With- out a mental equivalent, it cannot come.” Likewise, we need to cease providing a Mental Equivalent for things we don’t want. In the middle of challenge, it can become easy to lose focus on Truth principles just as Peter walked on the wa- ter until he changed his focus from Jesus, the Christ, to the forcefulness of the wind [physical circumstances]. Then he began to sink. At some point in time each of us needs assistance (compass) that directs us to our center (the Christ). Here is a tool to help refocus in spiritual truth, a Forty Day Prosperity Prayer Program. Please go to our website and invite anyone in the world to join us at www.unitychristchurchstl.org . If you wish a paper copy of the 3-page Forty Day Program, please call the church office and it will be mailed to you. If you wish to begin on Ash Wednesday, it is March 9; if you wish to conclude on Easter, April 24, be- gin March 16. Third option, begin today. God loves you and so do I, Glenn

It is our sincere desire to provide true spiritual nourishment to your most pressing concerns. So, this article and its program are dedicated to raising the personal consciousness of friends and members of Unity Christ Church, our country, and our world. First, this is about your needs. We are about know-ing Truth principles and standing on them regardless of circumstances, no matter what the situation may report to our sensory awareness. Any life challenge is an opportunity for one to make the demonstration of good always available to each and all 7 billion of us on earth. Scripture speaks to this moment’s needs: “…and thus put me to the test [prove me, now-KJV], says the Lord of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing.” (Mal 3:10 NRSV) So be encouraged – always knowing that God loves you and desires only good for you. A Sure Remedy1 by Charles Fillmore

Here is a mental treatment that is guaranteed to cure every ill that flesh is

heir to: Sit for a half-hour every night and mentally forgive everyone against

whom you have any ill will or antipathy. If you fear or if you are prejudiced

against even an animal, mentally ask forgiveness of it and send it thoughts

of love. If you have accused anyone of injustice, if you have discussed anyone

unkindly, if you have criticized or gossiped about anyone, withdraw your

words by asking them, in the silence to forgive you. If you have a falling out

with friends or relatives, if you are at law or engaged in contention with

anyone, do everything in your power to end the separation. See all things

and all persons as they really are--pure Spirit--and send them your strong-

est thoughts of love. Do not go to bed any night feeling that you have an en-

emy in the world.

Be careful not to think a thought or say a word that will offend. Be patient,

loving, and kind under all circumstances. You can do this if you are faithful

to the silent hour, because there you will be helped to overcome the selfish-

ness of the human condition. There is an immutable law lying back of this

healing method. God is love, and love is manifest in and through all. If we

cut off the love of any person we are cutting off the love of God; hence, we

are cutting off the life that flows through all. When we, by withdrawal from

our fellows, in any way cut the cords of love that bind us together as men

and women, we, at the same time, sever the arteries and veins through

which the universal life flows. We then find ourselves mere bundles of

strained nerves, trembling and shaking with fear and weakness, and finally

dying for lack of God’s love. But omnipresent Spirit ever seeks to flow into

us and to stimulate us in every faculty. We must, however, by our words and

acts acknowledge this all-powerful Presence as the moving factor in our life,

because each of us has inherent free will, which welcomes and rejects all,

even God not being excepted.

Self-condemnation is also a great error, leading to dire results. If you have

accused yourself of ignorance, foolishness, fear, sickness, anxiety, poverty,

anger, jealousy, stinginess, ambition, weakness, or if you are melancholy

and indulge in the “blues”, ask forgiveness for each of the loving Father in

whose image and likeness you spiritually have perfect life. Say often to this

omnipresence:

I do now sacrifice these human limitations for you, O God! I am obedient to

the law of my being and I know that through God I am brave, true, energetic,

wise, pure, perfect, strong, rich and courageous. God is my almighty resource

and I trust in God completely and utterly.

In love and light,

Judi Coleman

TOASTMASTERS’ CLUB AT UNITY CHRIST CHURCH

February 13th and 27th

The Toastmasters Program was designed to help you conquer your fear, gain confidence and improve speaking, listening and leadership skills. Through a mutually suppor-tive and positive environment, members have the opportunity to foster self-confidence and personal growth. Members learn and prac-tice organization, persuasiveness and thinking on their feet. Our club here at Unity Christ Church, Voices in Unity, offers these opportunities in a fun and nurturing environment. Our regular meetings are usually held on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. We meet in the Fellowship Room. Visitors are always wel-come. UNITY’S FIVE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF TRUTH

1. God is everywhere equally

present and all good.

2. Human beings are divine;

they are expressions of the

Christ Spirit within. Their very

essence is of God, and there-

fore they are also inherently

good.

3. Human beings create their

experiences by the activity of

their thinking. Everything in

the manifest realm has its

beginnings in thought.

4. Prayer and meditation are the

direct link with the Mind/Heart

of God.

5. Knowing the Laws of Truth is

not enough. A person must

live the Truth he/she believes.

A Thought & A Prayer: Tasting Sacredness

Something opens our wings. Something makes boredom and hurt disappear. Someone fills the cup in front of us. We taste only sacredness.

Rumi in The Essential Rumi, translation by

Coleman Barks with John Moyne Rumi has invited his readers to “taste sacred-ness.” What a reminder that we always have a choice about our emotions. Looking at the landscape of a Missouri Winter, it is easy to feel peace and to taste sacredness; or we may feel desolate or depressed. We each get to decide how we feel. When snow softens the edges of harsh landscapes, for some it is beauty. For others it is a frozen hazard. You decide. Whatever fills the cup in front of us, we have the option to taste sacredness. If it seems like a bitter cup, we can question our thoughts. We can ask what if we didn’t think it was a bit-ter cup. We can wrestle with it, and as Jacob did at Jabbok Ford (Genesis 32:22), when he said “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” Looking at the cup in front of us each moment of each day, may we always taste sacredness. It’s our choice.

God loves you, and so do I,

Martha

JESUS 2:1: AN UPGRADE FOR THE

21ST CENTURY

By Thomas W. Shepherd, D.Min.

Dates: Sundays, March 6 – June 12

Time: 12 Noon

Sessions One and Two: 7 weeks each,

Intermission: April 20

Please bring a brown bag lunch, if you wish,

and we’ll eat together during class

(Church will provide hot water and tea)

This is the in-depth study we announced

in January to begin in March shortly

after the Sunday series concludes. Author, Thomas Shepherd, D. Min., is a Unity Minis-

ter, and is currently Department head of and is teach-

ing Theology and Church History at Unity Institute at

Unity Village, MO. (Unity’s Ministerial training pro-

gram.)

Shepherd’s ministerial students (mature students all)

refer to him as “Dr. Tom”: here’s what the outside

back cover says about Dr. Tom’s new book: “…

Recognizing Jesus as an important meeting place for a

discussion about values, and with evident love and

respect, Dr. Tom affirms that it’s time for our genera-

tion to reshape Jesus into a more interactive version.

To put it in today’s technological terms, the Jesus 2.1

upgrade will reinstall the Jesus Christ operating sys-

tem, quarantine remnants of culturally induced vi-

ruses and install a revised Imago Dei, (image of God)

which will make it easier to toggle the image of God in

the consciousness of all human beings.”

Please sign up on the sheet in the Lobby if you

plan to attend this class so we will know how

many books to order.

On the Spiritual Path

Dear Readers,

Do you ever wonder what to do when you sense a storm brew-

ing? Whether it be at home, on the job or even at your church,

what can you do? We can learn a great lesson from Jesus when

he departed from Galilee with His Apostles in a boat. As we

know, a storm arose, and the waves crashed into the boat filling

it with water. The apostles were frightened and began to panic.

They engaged Jesus asking him did he not care if they perished.

And, as you may recall, he awoke, rebuked the wind and sea

with just his voice “peace, be still.” Then he turned to the men

and asked them why they were so fearful. Did they not have any

faith? He didn’t understand why they became so fearful.

According to Elizabeth Sand Turner (Your Hope Of Glory), this

miracle shows the power spiritual man has even over the ele-

ments. Metaphysically, the storm represents a threat of some

sort to the human consciousness (the apostles). The men called

to Jesus for help. In times of stress, we too need to call on the

Christ Spirit within us.

When the indwelling Christ is stirred up by our call, we only

need to become still and know peace. We know that Christ

Spirit has the complete and total power over all circumstances.

We know that Truth works, and yet sometimes storms of life

challenges our faith, and we can become fearful. We need

only to quickly call upon the Christ, and allow Spirit to take

over from a place of peace and strength.

So, how would this work in our life today? When we sense a

storm brewing, we need to be alert and aware, that is always

prepared to turn to our Christ Spirit. It doesn’t mean cowering

in fear, or losing our peace to circumstances. We know that God

is our strength, and our peace. And yet, we also have inner tur-

moil when we sense a storm brewing. Take the necessary hu-

man precautions. Do not be remiss in doing what God has al-

ready given you to do humanly.

But “be not afraid.” Always operate from truth, peace and

strength and God will see you through. We’ve all been in real

storms (tornados and snow storms), and through emotional

storms, and the Christ Spirit has always been there to sustain us.

We are assured of success when we operate from the Spiritual

plane.

God bless!

Mary E. Biggs

YOUTH & FAMILY

MINISTRY

Love is the subject of our children’s study for February. Love is not just an emotion. It is a real power inherent in every one of us. For our cofounder, Charles Fillmore, love is

The pure essence of Being that binds to-gether the whole human family. Of all the attributes of God, love is undoubtedly the most beautiful. In Divine Mind, love is the power that joins and binds in divine har-mony the universe and everything in it; the great harmonizing principle known to man. Divine love is impersonal; it loves for the sake of loving. It is not concerned with what or who it loves, nor with a return of love. Like the sun, its joy is in the shining forth of its nature.

(Revealing Word, 125) David and Jonathan from the Old Testament, I Samuel 18-19, are a scriptural example of love. Jonathan is the son of King Saul, and David and Jonathan formed a covenant. The more David's success grew, the more King Saul tried to have him killed. Jonathan, in his love for David, sought and discovered his father's desire to kill David, and informed David so that he could es-cape. The love that the two had for each other, despite King Saul's anger and desire to be rid of David, is an inspiration for the love and loyalty we may have for our fellow humans. A lesson in this story is the struggle for control between the head and the heart, personal will and divine love. The will, functioning in the world of the senses would destroy its own soul (represented by Jonathan) and innate love (David). Our thoughts are formative, and we can think ourselves away from God and away from the discovery of Truth if we allow our thoughts to function in the absence of our love and compas-sion. The heart with its own innate intelligence can guide us into all Truth as we allow our thoughts to spring from the Divine within us.

Prayer Ministry

The light of God illumes the light of sense,

And then the soul aspires to meet its God;

A steed without a rider knows no way,

It wants a king to know the royal road.

Behold the sense which governed is by light,

A fine companion is this light to sense.

God's light adorns the sensual light, This is the meaning of Light on

light.* Light physical drags down to earth

beneath, But light divine exalts to heavenly

bliss. All things of senses in a base world

are, God's light an ocean is, but sense a

drop of dew. Rumi

The 12th century poet speaks elo-quently of the light of sense and God’s light. “God’s light an ocean is.” In the dark of Winter, literally or figuratively, as the darkness of strug-gle, God’s light is an ocean, even when our sense of light is barely a drop of dew. Unity’s invitation to al-low ourselves to become one with the One is a salve for such times. Prayer is our balm, our peace, and our connection with God. Blessings,

The Prayer and Counseling Ministry of Unity Christ Church is

available to help you in your time of need. You are as close to

the prayerful support of Unity as your telephone.

Active Healing Prayer Service

The next service begins at 7 pm (for one hour) on Thursday, February 24th and the fourth Thursday of each month thereafter. We believe in healing prayer. Active Healing Prayer is designed to release stress, bal-ance energy, combat disease, and promote well-being. Glenn and Martha Mosley serve as facilitators of the healing processes, introducing newcomers briefly to the Healing Hover Touch method Glenn developed. If one is well, these procedures can help to maintain wellness. If one is not well, these procedures may go a long way to restoring wellness. Please invite others to come with you, especially those who are not well, or have a high level of stress. Participants will receive unconditional positive regard and unconditional love. Please help us in this outreach into the greater community of metropolitan St. Louis; invite others to come. If you’ve ever been “too shy” to invite anyone to your church, please let that feeling melt away, specifically regarding their health and well-being. We will focus on the health and wholeness inherent in each person present. As this event grows in size, we will increase the number of days it is presented.

UNITY’S SPIRITUAL MOVIES FRIDAY, February 11, 2011, 7 PM

INVICTUS Hosted by Glenn Mosley

Invictus, directed by Clint Eastwood, tells the inspir-

ing true story of how Nelson Mandela (Morgan Free-man) joined forces with the captain of South Africa's rugby team (Matt Damon) to help unite their country. Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation re-mains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africa's rugby team as they make their historic run to the 1995 Rugby World Cup Championship match. Engaging, inspiring, gritty, this is a must see. The evening begins with a brief introduction of the film, including spiritual themes; meditation; and then the viewing of the film in full. Afterwards, there is collabora-tive discussion of spiritual and psychological themes. See you at the movies!

PROSPERITY BANKS My Personal

Investment Program

A gift to God is an investment in the law of good which always returns more than the equivalent of the gift. Jesus told us that if we would claim such returns we must love, ask, have faith and give. Daily do the following: (1). Love God Love others Love yourself and relax! (2). Ask. Write your desire. (3). Ex-pect a perfect solution and do not worry! (4) Give thanks for that solution and put your gift in your Prosperity Bank. Prosperity Banks may be picked up from an usher anytime or at the book desk in the Lobby. We will bless the banks during the service the first Sunday of the month, February 6th. If you have any ques-tions or need additional information on Pros-perity Banks, please contact the church office at (314) 727-6478.
