Our communion for June will go to support the Uni-versity of Louisville Wesley Foundation (The Gather-ing) and the University of Kentucky Wesley Foundation (UKWF). The Gathering welcomes students from three cam-puses in Louisville: University of Louisville, Bellarm-ine University and Jefferson Community & Technical College. Students gather every Thursday evening dur-ing the school year for a free dinner followed by a wor-ship experience. Additionally, they meet in small groups for prayer and study, in larger groups for worship and Bible study, and they gather for food and fun whenever possible. For more information about The Gathering campus ministry, you may call 502-727-8504, e-mail e-mail [email protected], or visit their Web site at www.gatheringlouisville.org. The UKWF’s mission is to connect, develop, and send a new generation of Christian leaders who will make disciples of Jesus Christ and transform the world. It is

unique from other campus ministries because it is both a campus ministry and a Christian living community. The UKWF is also open to BCTC and Transylvania. Minis-tries of the UKWF include a weekly worship night (with free dinner!), Discipleship Groups, Coffee House, hand-ing out cookies on campus, prayer walks, and delivering sandwiches to the homeless. For more information about UKWF campus minis-try, you may call 859-254-0231 or visit their Web site at www.ukwf.org.

Each year, all churches in the Kentucky Confer-ence are invited to participate in the missions of the Kentucky Annual Conference in two concrete ways. The Mission Offering for 2017 Annual Conference will support scholarships for our Camp & Retreat Ministries. The goal is $150,000. Camp Loucon, the camp closest to BUMC, will receive 25% of the mis-sion offering. We have to date received $205 for our conference offering. If you would like to add to this

amount, please do so by Sunday, June 4. Health Kits will be assembled during the Afternoon of Service and Learning on Tuesday, June 13, dur-ing Annual Conference. Once again, the Heartland District is being asked to contribute hand towels for the health kits. They may be up to 17x27 inches in size. No kitchen towels, please. Well known pastor Andy Stanley often says, “Think steps, not programs.” This is advice we need to heed when it comes to following up on our successful day of community service and the Love Thy Neighbor campaign. If “Love Thy Neighbor” is just a yearly emphasis and empty phrase, then it is nothing more than a program that will soon be forgotten. So we must ask ourselves, what is the next step? What is the next expression of loving thy neighbor? How can this be an ongoing reflection of who we are as a church? On a personal level, what will be your next step in loving the neighbors around you? Could that be expressed in volunteering to serve at Love In Ac-tion each Thursday? Could that be hosting a neigh-borhood get-together to become better acquainted with your neighbors? There are so many possibili-ties limited only by the extent to which we are will-ing to see people as Jesus sees them and to truly love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves. Thank you to all involved who were willing to take a leap of faith and risk trying something radi-cally different so we might challenge ourselves to love and live boldly!
