TUCKSHOP Thank you to the wonderful parents that have returned the letters to support
the tuckshop. We are very grateful to you all.
Working Bee
This will be set for the 22nd August 2020 commencing at 9am. I have a list of
jobs to be completed to just do a general tidy up. If anyone has a cultivator
can you let me know, just need to turn the sand over near the playground.
Sausage Sizzle and morning tea provided.
UNIFORMS
This school requires all students to be dressed neatly and in clean, appropriate school
clothing. The school has in place a “No Hat - No Shoes - No Play” policy. Therefore all
children should wear closed-in joggers at all times at school; slip on shoes are not a safe
shoe for students as they do not give support. All children should also wear hats with a wide
brim or legionnaire style caps. Baseball caps are not suitable because they do not protect the
child’s ears or back of neck.
BOYS DAY / SPORT UNIFORM –Teal and dark navy blue school shirt, dark navy blue
shorts, closed-in jogger and navy wide brimmed or bucket hat.
GIRLS DAY / SPORT UNIFORM- Teal and dark navy blue school shirt, plain dark navy blue
shorts/skirt/skorts, closed-in jogger and navy, wide brimmed or bucket hat.
WINTER UNIFORM – Dark navy blue school zipped jumper or suitable warm dark navy
blue/black clothing can be used in the cooler months in conjunction with the teal and navy
school shirt. Suitable winter clothing also includes black tracksuit pants, long sleeved top,
jacket, jumper or pullover. Hoodies are not part of our School Uniform.
GENERAL APPEARANCE
Each day students should arrive at school clean and tidy, in their school uniform. Students
should not wear jewellery or nail polish to school. Sleepers and studs and a necklace of
religious significance are allowed, however. Hair should be tied back and fringes kept to a
suitable length.
Shirts $25—Shorts $12—Hats $12—Jackets $21

JUNIOR NEWS
Hello!
As you know, in HASS we are learning about our place in Australia. We are always
reviewing our states and capitals, and this week we looked at rivers. We talked about
the river that we live near, where the mouth of it is and what creeks run into it. It is
great getting to know our local area a bit better. This is why we have decided to do a
Snapping tour on Friday 21st August, so we can see for ourselves the river and all it’s
features. This will be a very exciting excursion– details to follow.
On another topic, I’d like to talk about homework. Thank you so much for helping your
child complete their homework. Home reading and sight words are very important.
They increase confidence and word knowledge. Books that are sent home are either at
level or 1-2 levels below to improve confidence and fluency. Also, the homework that is
sent home is to reconfirm everything we do in class. It should not be hard and should
not take long if you do a little bit every day. Again, thank you for helping us improve
your child’s education by making sure and/or helping them complete their work.
Regards, Mrs Butler, Mrs Wood and Mrs Villari
SENIOR NEWS
Hi all
Homework has improved, although some students still need to be reminded to have
parents to sign the reading sheet. Homework then needs to be placed on the Teacher-
Aides desk in the morning.
Students who do not complete reading or homework will complete some during Lunch
playtime on Friday.
IRL
Leon from Innisfail Rugby League has recommenced rugby league at the school. He is
joining us fortnightly on Tuesday during first lunch.
Impact has been going well this term; we have also purchased 10 new
computers to help ensure that all year levels have access to a laptop.

Breakfast club started this term. It runs each morning from 8
to 8.30am. There is toast and cereal available for all
students who want some.
The Breakfast Club Program encourages students to eat a
healthy breakfast which in turn improves: concentration
and academic performance, social and emotional
wellbeing, childhood growth and development and general
wellbeing.
Thank you to Mrs Pascoe for
always having South Johnstone
State Schools best interests at
heart. We all value your
contribution to our school so
much. Enjoy your special day.

Genes Day
THURSDAYS
South Johnstone State School
9AM TO 11AM
Jeans for Genes was created to raise
money to help the scientists at Chil-
dren’s Medical Research Institute find
treatments and cures for the 1 in 20 kids
facing a birth defect or genetic disease.
You may think you don’t know anyone
with a genetic disease or birth defect,
when in fact – there is one in every
classroom across Australia!
There are conditions that you may not
be aware of, but also more commonly
known conditions like cystic fibrosis,
autism and cancer.
You and your school can help make a difference in the lives of kids who shouldn’t have
to think about getting liver transplants, taking dozens of medications, or getting their
next dose of chemotherapy. We believe all kids should have a chance to just be kids!
Wear Jeans and bring a gold coin donation this Friday 7th August!
