Another contractor helps us learn it’s easier to get into business than it may be to get out and answer to questions about changes, delays and restrictions under Covid-19 rules… Q: Our company currently has a “C-7” (Low Voltage) Contractor’s License in California. I am a Window Covering specialist and have been for over 25 years. The company hired me to be their Responsible Managing Employee (RME) for the “C-61”/”D52” (Window Coverings) classification to be added to the license. Can you tell me how this works? Do I need to obtain my own license first and then add it to the Company license? I’m aware there is no trade exam for this classification, so if I can automatically add it to the license without obtaining my own license first, will I be able to waive the law portion of the exam based on the fact the Company already passed that portion? A: You do not need to obtain your own license prior to adding the classification to the Company license. All Qualifying Individuals who have not been a Qualifier on a license within the previous five years need to take and pass the law exam. The fact the Company has a Qualifier who has passed the law exam does not exclude additional Qualifiers from the need to take the law exam.

Q: We are an Oregon company and we got a CA Contractor’s License several years ago to do a couple of projects. We no longer do business so we need to shut down the company. I found out we are Suspended with the Secretary of State and was informed that we needed to file and pay our back taxes, even though we haven’t done business there for several years. The Franchise Tax Board sent me the filing requirements and they included a Certificate of Revivor form. Why would we

need to submit a Revivor form if our intent is to close down the corporation?

A: To close a corporation in CA, foreign corporations are required to file a Certificate of Surrender with the Secretary of State. One of the requirements to surrender is to file and pay all taxes owed. Also, for the Secretary of State to process the surrender, your corporation must be active and in good standing. You will need to file the Certificate of Revivor with the Franchise Tax Board for the Secretary of State to lift your “suspended” status and put you back to Active/Good Standing.

The Don Chapin Company, Inc. is seeking qualified applicants for the position of CORPRATE CONTROLLER. The corporate controller is a dynamic position whose key functions include the management and oversight of all administrative, accounting, and financial activities of our general engineering construction company. Direct responsibilities include preparation of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting and other accounting functions, as well as cash and risk management. This position will report to the Executive Vice President and the President of the company.

Minimum qualifications are:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting , Finance, or Business Administration. Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.

• Ideal candidate would have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the Accounting and Finance fields. Preferred experience in the construction industry, Percentage of Completion Accounting, Job Cost Reporting, Prevailing Wage, and a strong background in the use of accounting software operating systems.

• Must have excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software (Spectrum a plus) and Microsoft Office Suites, Access, database or similar system knowledge.

• Excellent written and verbal communication and management skills • Knowledge of accounting best practices, legal standards, and state and Federal regulations. • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations. • Attention to detail and organized; self motivated leader • Able to work well with senior executives, department heads and managers, as well as

mentor/lead other team members.

Right-to-know refers to your "right to know" what hazardous chemicals and materials you may be exposed to on the jobsite. You should be aware of the potential hazards in order to properly prepare yourself to work with the materials. We cannot eliminate hazardous substances, but we can greatly reduce the danger in dealing with them. Every hazardous substance that has been identified has a Material Safety Data Sheet or M.S.D.S., which tells you what the substance is, what possible dangers you might encounter while using the product and how to properly protect yourself from the substance. The MSDS will list any personal protective equipment required with use of that particular substance. Each project manager has a set of MSDS's. Do you know where they are located at? Have you ever opened them up and pulled out the MSDS for the substances you use in your particular task each day? If you have not, do it today. Read over the description and make sure that you are using the proper protective equipment. Maybe you do not think that you use hazardous substances. Here are some common items that are considered hazardous and may be found on a jobsite: Welding and Cutting Gases Adhesives Solvents Fuels Concrete and related compounds Many items may not seem hazardous, but become hazardous when handled improperly. Think about the substances you use and check for an MSDS so that you really know how to use that substance and what equipment you need to make sure you are not exposed to a hazard. Cada trabajo tiene el M.S.D.S. ¿Sabes donde estan? ¿Alguna ves a leido alguno por algun producto que has usado? Sino lo has hecho haslo hoy y fijate si estas usando el equipo protector correcto. Probablemente crees que no usas estas substancias peligrosas. Estas substancias son unas de las mas comunes que encuentras en el trabajo.
