After Buddhism was brought to Japan, the religion changed. Without enough time or money, unlike

the Nobles, the commoners had to change the religion to fit their lives. Buddhism was first

changed to a new form called Pure Land Buddhism, and then in the 1100s Zen Buddhism, another form

became well known and used.

The daily lives of the Japanese influenced their religion, just like how religion affects daily lives. These two newer forms of Buddhism were shaped to fit the commoners. The next section will show how the

nobles, emperors, and court went downhill, and how spending money on religion would change.
