King Harry Ferry is a perfect example of why BT Versatility is outselling other small phonesystems. One of Britain’s last five surviving chain ferries, King Harry Ferry operates aservice that connects the Roseland peninsula to Cornwall’s county town Truro, via nearbyFeock. Local businesses, tourists and the county’s emergency services have relied on theferry to take them across the River Fal since 1888. The firm now runs four businesses, KingHarry Classic Coaches, King Harry Cottages and the St Mawes Passenger Ferry Companywhich operates the Falmouth Park & Float service.

We had two key objectives in mind – to improve the overall operational efficiency of allour businesses and provide a single number on which the emergency services couldcontact the King Harry Ferry, day or night.

BT Versatility, incorporating voicemail and wireless access, allows King Harry Ferry toconnect a number of different telephone numbers, at various locations, without having toduplicate cabling and telephone extensions. Individual business units have their owntelephone numbers, but calls are routed through one system. An automated informationservice provides ferry times, costs and tariffs and is yielding substantial time and costsavings. For emergencies, out of hours calls can be routed by voicemail directly to mobiletelephones used by the ferry operators.

At first, we thought of the system as a way to improve communication throughout thebusiness. However, it is the indirect effects that have demonstrated the greatest impact,including our ability to improve the coordination of our activities and further cooperationacross different functions.

Although, this [developing an e-shopping website] can understandably be a dauntingtask, we were buoyed by our knowledge that we have the support of BT whenmoving towards e-commerce solutions. This was shown recently when we decided toupgrade to an ADSL line in order to have broadband capabilities, an upgrade thatwas made with impressive ease.

Step 1: Start with a standard phone system

Choose from 8, 16, 24, 32 or 40 extensions, all with50+ call handling features. Call routing and queuingis also included, making BT Versatility ideal forhelpdesk services such as order taking, customer careand technical support. Choose either PSTN or ISDN1
