  • Dry Lab Training Standard for Surgical Interns in Indonesia

    The following 8 Standard Laparoscopic Skills exercise has been reviewed and approved by the Commission for Laparoscopic Curriculum chartered by the Kolegium Bedah Indonesia on April 25, 2009 in Bali as the Standard Dry Lab Training in Basic Laparoscopy of the Surgical Interns.

    The candidate must be able to complete ALL exercises in the maximum time allocated.

    A 100% PASS in all 8 exercises as examined by appointed Kolegium instructors is required for the candidate to proceed to the Animal Lab Exercise.

  • Objective of Basic Coordination Skills Workshop

    Demonstrate three-dimensional spatial perception from a two-dimensional video image.

    Operate with both the dominant and nondominant hand and coordinate the use of both hands.

    Demonstrate basic laparoscopic skills before entering the operating room.

    Distinguish between different tactile inputs. Work with reversed hand-eye axis (mirror image).

  • Materials Needed: 2 Petri Dish and Small Balls One grasper

    Activity: Segment A: With dominant hand,

    move 10 balls from right to left. Segment B: With non-dominant

    hand, move 10 balls from left to right

    Error Definition: Dropped balls outside of petri

    dish Inappropriate hand used

    Time for Completion: For both segments,120 seconds

    #1: Basic Grasper Exercise

  • Materials Needed: 10 thumb tac on soft board 10 soft rubber rings Two graspers

    Activity: Segment A: Pick up one ring with

    dominant hand, transfer to non-dominant hand, place in thumb tacks. Repeat 5 times.

    Segment B: Pick up one ring with non-dominant hand, transfer to dominant hand, place in thumb tacks. Repeat 5 times.

    Error Definition: Ring dropped Inappropriate hand used Appropriate transfer not completed

    Time for Completion: For both segments, 240 seconds

    #2: Two hand transfer

  • Materials Needed: 16 golf tees and balls One grasper

    Activity: Segment A: Use dominant

    hand to move 4 balls to high tees and 4 balls to lower tees.

    Segment B: Use non-dominant hand to move 4 balls to high tees and 4 balls to lower tees.

    Error Definition: Knocking down tees Dropped ball.

    Time for Completion: For both segments, 300

    seconds

    #3: Placement of Balls on Tees

  • Materials Needed: Small rings Two upright metal pole

    Activity: Segment A: Using dominant

    hand, place 5 rings stacked into first pole.

    Segment B:Using non-dominant hand, place 5 rings stacked into second pole.

    Error Definition: Dropping the rings outside

    the pole Time for Completion: For both segments, 300

    seconds

    #4: Stacking Rings thru Nails

  • Materials Needed: Three rings Metal wire shaped

    Activity: Starting with the larger rings,

    with a grasper in the dominant hand, move the rings one at a time, to the other end. Repeat until all 3 rings are moved.

    Error Definition: Dropping the ring Did not reach other end

    Time for Completion: 120 seconds

    #5: Single Handed Ring transfer

  • Materials Needed: 2 Rings Metal wired shaped in 3-

    dimension Activity: Starting with the larger rings,

    with a grasper in the dominant hand, and another grasper in non-dominant hand, move the rings one at a time, to the other end. Repeat until all 2 rings are moved.

    Error Definition: Dropping the ring Did not reach other end

    Time for Completion: 120 seconds

    #6: Two handed Ring transfer

  • Materials Needed: A small size rubber or silicon

    tubing with 5 markings equally spaced

    Activity: Using a scissor in the

    dominant hand, and a grasper in the non dominant hand, cut the tubing at the marked area in 5 pieces.

    Error Definition: Cutting in unmarked area Dropping the tubing

    Time for Completion: 120 secs

    #7: Scissor exercise

  • Materials Needed: A rope 9 rings with different heights Graspers

    Activity: Using two graspers, pass the

    rope thru the 9 rings. Error Definition: Fail to pass thru rings Dropping the rope

    Time for Completion: 300 secs
