CODE OF CONDUCT/BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS

YCPD participants are expected to demonstrate appropriate behavior at all times. The following is a list of the Park District’s behav-

ior codes, which have been developed to help make the programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional rules or guide-

lines may be developed for specific programs if deemed necessary by YCPD staff.

1. Show respect to fellow participants and staff.

2. Abstain from using abusive or foul language.

3. Abstain from causing or threatening bodily harm to self, fellow participants or staff.

4. Show respect to equipment and facilities.

Additional or individual behavior management plans may be developed based on the advice of parents, guardians, YCPD staff, or

other professionals. A caring, fair and positive approach will be utilized regarding the use of any disciplinary

methods. Each situation will be evaluated individually and on its own merit.

YCPD reserves the right to dismiss a participant at any time.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES: Resident registration is taken on a first-come-first-serve basis and begins immediately upon attainment

of this brochure. York Center Park District residents will have priority. Programs have a minimum and maximum enrollment rate. Previous en-

rollment does not guarantee a reservation in any program except our semester preschool programs. A waiting list will be made if a program is

full. Registration for programs will be held at the York Center Park District Administrative Office, 1609 S. Luther Avenue, Lombard (four

blocks south of Roosevelt Road and two blocks east of Meyers Road). Advanced registration is strongly encouraged! All fees must be paid at

the time of registration. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. There is a $20 charge on all returned checks. Visa and

Mastercard accepted. No fax registration will be accepted. See registration form on page 37-38.

REGISTRATION DEADLINES: Unless otherwise noted, the registration deadline for all programs is one week prior to the start of the first

class session. Registrations are still accepted after this deadline; however, the class may be filled to capacity or canceled due to low enrollment.

Please register early to avoid being disappointed.

MAIL-IN & PHONE REGISTRATION: Mail-in registration will be accepted. Mail your registration form and payment to the York Center

Park District at 1609 S. Luther Avenue, Lombard, IL 60148. The registration form and waiver is located on page 37-38 of this brochure or

may be downloaded from our website at www.yorkcenterparks.org. Phone registration is now being accepted by calling (630) 629-0886 during

normal business hours Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. We only accept Visa and MasterCard. Voicemail registration is not accepted. The

registration form and waiver must be completed before starting any program.

RESIDENT AND NON-RESIDENT FEES: Those residing within the York Center Park District’s boundaries may participate in programs at

resident rates. Residents may register anytime during office hours. Early registration means better planning and purchasing by staff and in-

structors. The York Center Park District boundaries have been determined as Roosevelt Road to the North, Fairfield to the West, Michigan to

the East and Butterfield Road to the South. Refer to the map on the inside back cover.

REFUNDS: Refund requests must be submitted at least one week prior to the start of a program or class. A $3.00 service fee will be deducted

from the amount paid. If the Park District finds it necessary to cancel a program after the second session, a pro-rated refund will be made for

the remaining sessions. Refunds cannot be given for outings unless a substitute can be found beforehand or if the trip is cancelled. Please note:

Due to circumstances beyond York Center Park District’s control, some trips or instructional programs may be subject to change or cancella-

tion. Please register early so we do not have to postpone or cancel programs.

PAPERWORK: There is a $10.00 fee for all yearly receipts processed by office staff.

INSURANCE: The York Center Park District does not provide medical insurance coverage for those participating in recreation programs or

while using park facilities. Such insurance would make programs and user fees prohibitive.

WAIVERS: York Center Park District does not accept liability for participants injured in a Park District program. Participants must furnish

their own medical and accident insurance. All participants must sign the multiple waiver and release form which is located on the reverse side

of the registration form. See waiver on page 37-38.

AMERICAN DISABILITIES ACT (ADA): People with disabilities, please note: The York Center Park District will not discriminate

against eligible residents for participation on the basis of a disabling condition. “WE INVITE ANY PATICIPANT WITH A SPECIAL NEED

TO CONTACT OUR STAFF UPON REGISTRATION SO THAT A SMOOTH INCLUSION MAY OCCUR.” In addition to the programs

listed here, our district provides additional specialized services for people with disabilities through Gateway. Feel free to call them at (630)

325-3857, or see the Special Recreation Association page in this brochure. See more information on page 58.

PET OWNERS: When visiting local parks with your pet, please re-

member that agency ordinances require dogs to be leashed at all

times. Dogs are not allowed at any time on athletic fields, playground

areas and jogging or bike paths. The person in control of the pet is re-

sponsible for cleaning up waste.

GEESE ENTHUSIASTS: Feeding ducks and geese has been a fa-

vorite pastime for many people. Unfortunately, Mother Nature never

intended waterfowl to be given food that is provided by humans.

Ducks and geese naturally feed upon aquatic plants, grains, insects

and sometimes fish. Problems arise when the birds are fed unnatural

foods. If you are truly concerned for the welfare of these wild crea-

tures, please do not feed the ducks and geese.

PRAIRIE PATH: York Center Park District is proud to have a natu-

ral native Prairie Path in Knolls Park, which is located just two blocks

west of Meyers Road, next to the Montini High School ball fields on

16th Street. Less than 1% of the natural, native prairies remain in Illi-

nois. A special thank you goes to Irene Mostek for all of her hard

work and dedication to the Prairie Path.

PARK WATCH: We need your help in keeping the parks clean, safe

and free of vandalism. If you find any broken equipment, or have any

other safety concerns about the facilities, please contact the Park Dis-

trict. If you see vandalism occurring in the parks, please contact the

sheriff’s department by calling 911. The park district is committed to

providing a safe place for recreational activities and would prefer to

enhance the quality of the parks rather than replace vandalized equip-

ment. Thank you for your support in our efforts to provide the resi-

dents of the park district with quality sites and facilities.

TREE MEMORIAL/SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM: This is an op-

portunity to remember life’s special moments or commemorate loved

ones with a live tree. It is a unique way to symbolize a birth, wedding

day, graduation, retirement or death. Businesses, groups, churches

and families may contribute to our community’s beautification with

donations to the Tree Memorial/Sponsorship Program. You may

choose from several varieties of trees. Your tree will be identified with

a plaque adjacent to it. Donors will be presented with a certificate. To

obtain an application stop by the office. Trees range in price from

$250-$500. Applications are available at the Administration’s office

front desk.

PHOTOGRAPHS: The York Center Park District may take photo-

graphs of people enjoying programs, special events, parks and facili-

ties. These photographs are used for our publications, recreation

guides or cable programs. They are the sole property of the Park Dis-

trict and will be used at its discretion. So, the next time you see a

camera, make sure you SMILE.

ICE SKATING: Ice-skating will no longer be permitted on York

Center Park District ponds. There will be an ice rink created at Knolls

Community Park for all to enjoy. We encourage sport games on the

ice, but please be courteous to children and families who enjoy

pleasure skating. The ice rink will be open daily from sunrise until

10:00 pm.

ICE FISHING: Ice fishing is allowed on the Park District ponds at

Lake Yelenich Park, and Knolls Park. Fisherman must follow the ice

condition warning flags posted at each lake, and must have a valid

state and York Center fishing permit.

Ice Condition Warning Flags:GREEN: Adequate ice conditions exist; fishing permitted

RED: Ice conditions are not safe; fishing prohibited

The York Center Park District was organized in 1971 with the following goals:

To conduct programs which will enhance the leisure life of residents and their families.

To encourage groups to develop such programs.

To conserve the area's natural environment values.

To acquire, protect, and develop other valuable resources.

To strive to protect the community from environmentally destructive and degrading influences.

In order to facilitate the achievement of these goals, the Board of Commissioners has approved a series of policies and ordinances governing

the operation of the district. Procedures have been developed to carry out these policies.

Through these policies and procedures, the Board of Commissioners and staff of the York Center Park District maintain their commitment to

providing a high quality of leisure service to all residents of the district.

York Center Park District - Mission & Vision

Dear Residents,What a beautiful time of year to witness the change of seasons. I hope you had a chance to visit the parks this past fall and participate in some

programs. We had a great time this past fall at the World Wide Day of Play in September, the Halloween Carnival in October and the Turkey

Shoot in November! We are proud to offer many special events throughout the year that bring families together. We have a special page in the

brochure dedicated to family events. With this economy it is difficult to entertain children without spending a fortune. We have planned many

fun and new programs and events for the Winter/Spring season. We hope you will take advantage of them and enjoy quality leisure time with

your family.

We are excited to announce that we received a Fishing Grant from the National Parks and Recreation Association. This $5,000 grant will help

us spread the word about fishing to all participants that live in the area. Our goal is to teach and educate all who want to learn about the great

sport of fishing.

Concerning our newest park, Knolls Community Park, we have two more interactive signs to install at the park and it will then be complete. We

hope you will be able to walk the paths, work out on the new equipment and enjoy the beauty of the seasons. We are still offering you this lim-

ited opportunity to purchase a brick which will be added to the walkways in the new park. Bricks may be purchased for different prices de-

pending on the size and the names you would like engraved on them. Participants, organizations, and associations may also donate money to

purchase a park bench, tree, and or signs. For more information, please see the bottom of this page for pricing and detailed information. This is

a great way to remember a loved one, or celebrate one of life’s special moments.

We hope to see you at the events or enjoying the beauty of the parks. Best of luck, great health and happiness to you and your family this holi-

day season and throughout the New Year! Remember to take time for fun with family and friends.

Best Regards,

Sharon Neubauer

learning simple cheers, partner stunts and an awesome pom rou-

The York Center Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and

holds the safety of participants in high regard. The York Center Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and

insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participants’ safety. How-

ever, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for listed programs/activities must recognize that there is an

inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities/programs.

You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or skilled for the

activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any

way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.

WARNING OF RISK

Recreational activities are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each

participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still

a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be

foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to

inclement weather, slip and falls, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike

conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all

other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it

is impossible for the York Center Park District to guarantee absolute safety.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK

Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in the programs listed below, you will be

expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which

you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associ-

ated with these programs (including transportation services and vehicle operations, when provided).

I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in these programs, and I

voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity, that my minor

child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. I further agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my

minor child/ward may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of participating in these programs against the

York Center Park District, including its officials, agents, volunteers and employees.

I have read and fully understand the above important information, warning of risk, assumption of risk and

waiver and release of all claims. If registering on-line or via fax, my on-line or facsimile signature shall substitute

for and have the same legal effect as an original form signature.
