    GASIFICATION AND CHP POWER GENERATION PLANT

    RUNNING ON BIOMASS

    General View. Biomass gasification plant 1000 Kg/ h.EQTEC IBERIA IS BUILDING AN INTEGRATED BIOMASS GASIFICATION COGENERATION POWER PLANT(IBGPP), at th e al cohol dist ill ery of th e co mp any M OSTOS, VINOS Y ALCOHOLES, SA (M OVIALSA), locat ed atCampo de Criptana (CIUDAD REAL). CHP plant has an electrical output of 5,9 MW and produces 5600

    Kg/ h of saturated steam at 6 bar(g) and 159 m3 / h of hot water at 9 0 C, which are used by the alcohol

    factory. IBGPP plant w il l gasify 40 00 Kg/ h of waste bagasse from the alcohol factory and wil l al low total

    el imination of the bagasse and l iquid eff luent of t he factory. Bagasse is used as fuel into t he gasif ier plant

    and l iquid eff luent, so cal led vinazas (water with 1 or 2 % of organic matter) is concentrated on a

    mul tist age evaporator using residual heat from syn gas engines.

    IBGPP plant is designed to be extended to a t otal power output of 13 ,8 M We.

    gasif ication t echnology, whose k ey

    aspects are i t s high electr ical and

    thermal eff iciency, low operation and

    maint enance costs and low pollutant

    emissions.

    Emissions of the IBGPP plant are

    l imi ted to:

    NOX 500 mg/ Nm3

    CO 1100 mg/ Nm3

    PM10 < 5 mg / Nm3

    and emissions can be more reduced

    by using cat alysers.

    Integrated biomass gasif ication power plant under construction is made up of:

    1 . Biomass gasification plant , biomass is gasified obtaining low calorific value synthesis gas, LHV is 5,5

    M J/ Nm3. Plant gasifies 400 0 Kg/ h of biomass and has four gasifiers, each one has an air preheater in

    order to increase thermal effici ency.2 . Synthesis gas cleaning system, m ade up of gas coolers, particle f ilter and ash cooler system .

    3 . Power plant, wit h three Jenbacher 62 0 syn gas engines. Total elect rical power output is 592 2 KWe.

    Jenbacher engines are turbocharged and have a double stage aftercooler in order t o maxim ize its

    mechanical efficiency.

    4 . Heat recovery system from syn gas engines, generating 56 00 Kg/ h of saturated steam at 6 bar(g)

    and 159 m 3/ h of hot water at 90 C, return at 75 C.

    5 . Electrical substation t o connect power plant wit h local electrical grid at 13 2 KV.

    SCADA monit oring & cont rol PC. Plant is running cont inuously on automat ic mode.

    Table shows high electrical efficiency of more than 30 %. Typical Rankine cycle plant has an electrical

    effic iency of 2 4 % maxim um, in sim ilar pow er range of 5 - 15 M We. Thus IBGPP plant designed by EQTEC

    not only has much more electr ical eff iciency than com bustion plants but also generates steam and hotwat er without any power output reduction as i t happens on Rankine plants.

    A total eff iciency of 63 ,8 % is obtained.

    IBGPP plant is designed to run continuously

    on automat ic mode, 750 0 hours per year, wit h

    minim um operation manpower requirements.

    First 1 00 0 Kg/ hr Gasif ier l ine is alreadyrunning for more than 1500 hours and

    different biom asses have been tested.
